Chapter 35 - [ AO3 | FFN ]

“Allison, I’m so—” “Don’t!” The arrow brushed my skin, threatening to slice through flesh until Allison forced herself back. “Just…don’t. I know how you are with Derek. You treat him like family, and he treats you like his sister. He told you, and you—you did nothing. You did nothing to save her.” “That is not what happened, Allison! I didn’t know that he bit her. All I knew was that they fought because—” “And you didn’t tell me!” she shrieked. “Because you care about him, and Derek—no, Derek is just misunderstood. He could never do anything wrong. The two of you are—you’re exactly the same! You run around and you attack and you hurt people because you think you’re so right, and it doesn’t matter who else gets hurt! Well you know what, Sadie? He bit my mother, and now my mother is dead. S-she—she killed herself, because she didn’t want to chance being a monster like him. My mother is dead. And that’s your fault.” I gaped at her. “N-no. Allison, no, I didn’t—” “You didn’t do anything?” She laughed derisively, then leaned closer to hiss in my face. “Now where have I heard that before? You…you didn’t kill my mother, just like you didn’t kill Kate. And somehow they’re both dead because of you.” My lip trembled. I wanted to argue with her, but my mouth couldn’t move. Allison’s eyes were ice, freezing me solid as she held her bow at my throat. I felt the sting as it scratched along my skin, just short of drawing blood. “When I find Derek, I am going to kill him. And if you get in my way again, I will not hesitate to kill you too.”

OCs DESERVE BETTER -> Jackson & Daniel "Danny" Prescott (The Walking Dead) Danny FC: Walker Scobell Jackson FC: Daniel Sharman

"My little brother is the ONLY good thing in my life." * "He basically raised me."

Jackson and Danny grew up with parents who could have cared less about their two children, especially after their father up and left when Danny was barely two years old. Jackson primarily raised his younger brother, sometimes being driven to do extreme things to get money - things that eventually catch up and land him in juvie, where he is assigned King County Sheriff Department Officer Peyton Myers as his parole officer. Having had bad experiences with law enforcement, he is expecting her to be like everyone else - only for her to surprise him by caring. Enough that he opens up about why he seems to be in and out of juvie - it's all for the sake of his younger brother. When an ex-boyfriend of their mother's shows up and gets violent, Jackson grabs Danny and runs to Peyton's, knowing with his record he'll be the first suspect if things take a turn of the worst and not trusting the justice system, he goes to the one person he thinks he can trust.

Instead of Peyton, however, the brothers end up at her neighbor Nico Sanchez's house, who is visibly confused and concerned but still invites them in and calls Peyton, who immediately calls dispatch to the Prescott trailer. And Jackson's worst fears are confirmed: the boyfriend got too violent and police immediately think Jackson did it. But with Peyton and - to his surprise - another King County Deputy on his side, the investigation turns to the ex-boyfriend. Knowing that even though he's 18 and the only blood family Danny has left that the court will never give him custody, he begins to put a plan into place where Peyton or even Nico could adopt Danny while he gets his life together.

Knowing he did what he could and that Danny was under temperary guardianship of Peyton, Jackson takes a job in Atlanta that will also pay for room and board... just in time for the dead to rise up. Frantic, he tries to get back to Danny, but finds both the Myers and Sanchez home are empty. Jackson just survives, hoping to one day reunite the Danny... until he gets found and later recruited by a group calling themselves 'the Saviors' and their leader, Negan.

As for Danny, since Peyton wasn't home, he ran to Nico's house, where the man grabbed him and ran, the two protecting and looking out for each other until they found sanctuary in a small community called 'Woodbury' that seems to be a utopia to the hellhole the world has become. Still, he knows Nico doesn't trust the place, though he also knows the man only stays for Danny... and that the man is ready to once again grab Danny and run.

The cries of the little girl filled the silence as the man pushed open the door. He let out a sigh of relief as his eyes fell upon the toddler, standing upright in her crib, her tiny hands clutching the railings. He began to cross the room, arms outstretched, when a flash of red light hit him in the back. The man fell forward, unconscious.

I stare at the screen for hours, trying to make the words come out, but they won't. I can't compel myself to take a break, because there's this voice screaming at me from the base of my brain...

"You've been told you're a great writer, and you want to be a published author. But all you have to show for it after forty-four years are a dozen crash-and-burn writing projects. When you have the time to write, you don't, for a host of reasons. If you don't have something written by the time you die--which comes closer with every passing day--you've wasted your gifts, you've wasted all the effort people put into educating you, and you've wasted your life. So sit down and WRITE, you worthless piece of shit!"

How do you get past the paralysis caused by the obligation to produce? Is there a way to trick your brain and your body into writing? Or do you just slog on through, no matter how long you have to sit there to get a thousand words a day out?

Perhaps you could try to be kinder to yourself.

I always give myself permission to write or to do nothing at all (staring out of the window or at a wall is okay). After a while spent staring at a wall it's often easier to write.

Remember if you write a page a day -- 300 words -- at the end of a year you'll have a 100,000 word novel.

‘You know he literally could have put you in his pocket, right?’ Fred asked, causing Hope to stop her pacing so as to glare at him. He was lounging across the sofa in the common room, for once his attention on a scribbled page of notes. She doubted it was anything school related.

‘He couldn’t have,’ she dismissed, glowering at him.

‘Really?’ Fred shuffled the papers before finally deigning her with a look. She could see the incredulity behind his eyes.

‘I am not that short.’

‘H, I lost you in a sea of firsties last week,’ Fred noted simply.

‘Liar,’ she sang, leaning on the back of the sofa. It was novel, to look down on him for once.

Millicent didn’t know how she was supposed to feel. Her brother was OK, and she should have been thrilled about that. But Jacobi hadn’t once thought to write to them or even let her know he was alive since he’d left home. Out of all their siblings, she’d hoped he would have trusted her with something that big. That he would have known he could tell her because was the only thing that mattered to her that he was OK.

‘He wanted to do more.’

Elliott’s voice made Millie tense. Of all the people to speak to her, she’d hoped he would stay the furthest away. Just the thought of him made her want to hit something. Preferably him, but she was working on tempering that urge.

‘To tell you –’

‘Don’t,’ Millicent snarled, rounding on him. There was such compassion behind his expression it only irritated her more. ‘Don’t you dare tell me that he couldn’t tell us because of some rubbish or another. You don’t get to do that.’

Elliott held up his hands in a peaceable gesture, but was smart enough to stay a few steps away from her. Outside hitting range.

‘He could have done something,’ she said, hating the way her voice wavered. This was a conversation for Jacobi, not the random stranger that had helped them find out their brother was safe. But Jack was talking to Collette, trying to make their parents see that April had never been in real trouble, because he wouldn’t have allowed it.

Elliott remained sensibly silent.

Millicent took a deep breath, forced herself to calm. ‘OK,’ she said softly, knowing that there was nothing else they could do. ‘What next?’ She just hoped she’d be able to talk to Jack at some point sooner rather than later.
