It's very apparent to me that the Call of Duty team has a thing for zombies. The Zombie levels in the console version of the game are quite fantastic, with each of them chasing after you with 28 Days Late-like vigor. Because the mini game is so popular on the console, I guess that it just seems obvious to put it on the iPhone. iD Software, along with a few others, have made it very apparent that the FPS genre works on the system, so all it really would take is some solid implementation.

The whole goal of CoD: Zombies is, as with every zombie thriller, to survive. Unfortunately for you, you can't, as the whole goal is to last as long as you can. There is only one level, called Nacht der Untoten, that calls for you to kill wave after wave of zombies until you die. The concept is quite simple, but is fairly fun. You start off in a room that is being attacked by zombies, and eventually work your way around the house, killing all the zombies before they kill you first. Some of the zombies are fast, and some are slow, but they all want you quite dead. Throughout the level you buy random guns that are sold through chalk outlines on the wall while boarding up the windows to keep the zombies from getting through. Everything you do, level-wise (opening doors, buying guns, boarding up windows) costs money that is collected by shooting zombies, so use your money wisely.

The main fear of spending money on an iPhone FPS, especially one that costs $9.99, is having unplayable controls. Ever since Duke Nukem, I've been a bit weary of the whole genre.. who knows when you'll spend $10 and have movement 'pills' all over the screen. Fortunately, CoD: Zombies is an entirely playable game, although there are a few flaws. The base control method, which to me is the obvious best, works with a hybrid two joystick layout. The left joystick is the standard 'look around' joystick, while the 'right joystick' is is wherever you put your thumb. Having an invisible right joystick lets you put your finger wherever you want, which is fantastic for intense battles where you really can't afford to miss a 'real' joystick with your thumb. The problem with these sticks is the lack of space that they provide. The left stick, although traditional, is too small, and makes you hit almost directly on it to make you do anything. The right 'joystick', although useable anywhere on the screen, is definitely most comfortable in the lower right, where your hand traditionally lies. Unfortunately for me, my thumb lays right where the 'shoot' and 'aim' buttons are, making me use the 'right stick' much further down on the screen than I would like. Make the left stick larger and make the right buttons a bit higher and I'd absolutely love the controls. Hopefully an update will fix this, as it really wouldn't be too hard to do.. I don't think.

The graphics and sound in CoD: Zombies is top notch, which is to be expected for an app by a company such as Activision. The zombies move fluidly and the gunfire shoots appropriately, without any clipping or lag on my iPhone 3G. I'm sure that a 3GS would be a bit faster, but the game is entirely playable on a 3G. If you are a sound guy/girl, be sure to play the game with some good headphones on. Every once in a while you'll get a zombie that sneaks behind you, and it

With only one level in the game, replay value is a concern. A single player game could last you quite a long time, but you really just do the same stuff over and over again. Run, shoot zombies, run some more. Once you realize that you've unlocked the whole house, there really isn't all that much to do anymore. Word on the street is that Activision will be adding more levels soon, but as of now, your only replay option is multiplayer, and the multiplayer is quite cool, but doesn't always work (at least it didn't on my device). You have the option of playing with a local network, but the fun is all in the online option. Online pairs you with 4 people in a quest to, you guessed it, defend the house from zombies. In three tries I got a game running (one may not count, my phone locked itself, killing the game), and it went fairly well. With some tweaks, and some more levels, I could see the online multiplayer work quite well.

All in all, CoD: Zombies is an extremely well put together, although short experience. The controls are on the cusp of being perfect for the genre, the graphics and sound are top notch, and the online gameplay is definitely a glimpse into what iPhone FPS multiplayer will be like. It's not perfect though, and once again, it is extremely short, particularly for a game at its current $10 price point. I'd personally wait until the price comes down a bit before I pick this one up, but if you either love zombies or Call of Duty, you won't be too disappointed.

The objective of the game is to survive each round of invading zombies after which a more difficult round begins. The player begins the game with a Colt 1911 and has access to a melee attack via a combat knife, as well as a maximum of 4 hand grenades. As players fight the zombies, they receive points. These points are used to buy weapons, perks, and access to different parts of the map. Some maps have different variations of zombies that spawn on specific waves, like zombie hell hounds.

Zombies enter from outside the playable map via barricaded entries. As the rounds progress, difficulty increases and the zombies can remove barricades faster. Players are awarded points for replacing barricades as well as killing zombies.

Inland Paratrooper Serial Numbers

Inland Manufacturing, LLC is a private entity that is producing reproductions of the M1 Carbine and M1A1 Paratrooper models that were built by the original Inland Division of General Motors from 1941 to 1945. The new Inland M1 carbines feature many of the same characteristics of the original Inland Carbines and are manufactured in the USA. Deliveries began in October 1942, with all of the guns being manufactured by the Inland company. A total of 140,591 were made in two batches (71,000 between October 1942 and October 1943 and another 69,000 between April and December 1944). The B257614 on GI M1A1 buttplates during WWII was the U.S. Ordnance drawing and part number used under the U.S. Standard Nomenclature List (SNL). This inventory system was replaced with the U.S. Federal Stock Number (FSN) system in the 1950's. Under the FSN system the M1A1 buttplate designation became 6257614. Numbers were issued sequentially, beginning where Ordnance had left off with serial number blocks assigned during WWII. The letter X preceding the serial number designated it as a replacement. The new serial number was hand stamped on top of the receiver behind the rear sight, in the vicinity of the prior serial number.

.30 Caliber Carbines

The serial numbers used by Plainfield Machine followed a consistent pattern throughout production 1962-1978.

Serial numbers were hand stamped one digit at a time and are often not aligned with one another horizontally and/or vertically. The distance between each digit often varies.

Serial numbers started with the Millville Ordnance and H&S carbines were continued into the Plainfield carbines and consisted of a letter followed by three numbers. Serial numbers ran alphabetically then numerically, when 999 was reached the next serial number started at the next letter and again ran 001-999. So far, no carbines have been found that start with the letters I or Q.

Serial numbers were consistently at the front of the left side of the receiver above the stock line. The exception being first half of the G series, which have the serial number on top of the receiver behind the rear sight above the letters PMC. Markings and their location are discussed in detail on the pages devoted to Carbines, Parts, & Markings.

When production reached Z999 the serial numbers started over at 001 without the letter prefix, running numerically through end of production in 1978.

Amongst the first 1500 numerical serial numbers the letter A was sometimes added after the numbers and in at least one instance the letter P was observed instead of the A. Of the 43 carbines recorded between 001 and 1500, 27 have the A, 1 has the P, and 15 have no letter after the numbers. The meaning of this A is not known but of the 27 that have the A, 18 of these are known to have been sold to a law enforcement agency. This practice was discontinued after s/n 1500.

Serial numbers prior to 36000 (letter prefix series included) were stamped within an oval cut out. Creality ender 3 mac software. The oval appears infrequently through 63000 after which it was discontinued.

22 PMC Models (5.7mm Johnson caliber)

Plainfield introduced their 22 PMC models as the Plainfield Machine .30 caliber carbines progressed through the H series. The 22 PMC models were assigned the letter A prefix followed by three numbers. So far, the highest serial number found on the 5.7mm Johnson models has been A356. Instead of Cal. 30 M-1, the receivers are marked .22 PMC M-5.

Enforcer Model

The Plainfield Enforcer model markings and their location are consistent with the markings and locations found on the first Iver Johnson carbines in 1978. The Plainfield Enforcer model was manufactured 1977-1978 during the transition of Plainfield's carbine operations to Iver Johnson. It appears the Enforcer was introduced by Louis Imperato as part of his take over of Plainfield Machine and before the first carbines with the Iver Johnson name.

Serial numbers observed so far have started with the letters PP followed by five numbers. Instead of Cal. 30 M-1 the receivers are marked PP30 M-1. The highest Plainfield Enforcer serial number observed to date has been PP00524.

M-2 Carbines

The Plainfield M-2 Carbines serial numbers are within the M-1 Carbine sequence. The serial numbers do not distinguish an M-1 versus an M-2. The difference is found on the receiver following the caliber marking, where the caliber is followed by M-1 or M-2.

Dates of Manufacture

No information has been located to indicate which serial number was used when. This information is being reconstructed through research.

Yearly production varied at different times. Production 1962-1965 was far less than 1966-1975 and diminished 1976-1978. The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms published a yearly list of total rifle and handgun production starting in 1975.

The only rifles manufactured by Plainfield Machine were their models based on the M1 Carbine. Handgun calibers were reported as either revolvers, or pistols in calibers 22, 25, 32, 380, 9mm, and 45. As Plainfield did not manufacture any .32 caliber semi-automatic pistols it is suspected these numbers represent the .30 caliber Enforcer models.

iTunes had come under much criticism due to the UK price of iPod games, GB£3.99 (about US$7.40). Many people from the UK had given the games 1-star ratings, stating that Apple was 'ripping off' Britain.(3)

A similar situation occurred in Australia, where the price was A$7.49, even though the Australian dollar was (at the time) worth more than the US dollar (A$7.49 = US$7.76).

Developers had criticized Apple for not creating a software development kit (SDK) for software developers to create new iPod games; this was likely to keep the digital rights management of iPod games closed.(citation needed) Despite this, it did not prevent users from running an alternative OS on the iPod such as Linux, whereby, for example, there are ports of Doom that will run on fifth-generation iPods. Running Linux on an iPod retains the music-playing functionality of the device while also adding features such as the ability to create voice memos through the headphones.

When the iPod Classic and iPod Nano third generation were released, games which had previously been purchased could not be synced to the new iPods. Understandably, this made many consumers angry due to losing their investment.

It is also notable that after a download had been made for a game, it couldn't have been downloaded again unless a separate purchase was made for the same item.(4) This is different behavior than applications downloaded on the App Store, which can be downloaded an unlimited amount of times. These issues were later fixed, however, making it possible to install any single game on any number of iPods registered under the same account.

These firmware projects can play many other games, including the aforementioned native port of Doom; and, via a native port of the Game BoyemulatorGnuboy, many other games could be played, including Super Mario Bros., Tomb Raider, Mega Man, Kirby, Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, Street Fighter, and hundreds more.(5)(6)

With the release of the third-generation iPod in 2003, Apple introduced a ″Notes″ feature to the iPod’s firmware. This functionality provided the first opportunity for third-party developers to create simple text and audio games which could be installed and run on an iPod without users needing to replace the official firmware.

With a limit of 1,000 individual .txt files, each with a maximum file size of 4kb, the Notes feature made use of a limited set of html tags. Hyperlinks could also be used to link to other .txt files or folders and play audio files stored on the device.(7) The limitation of available html tags meant that developers were restricted to Choose Your Own Adventure–style text-based games(8) or multiple choice–style quizzes with narrated audio.(9) Subsequently, very few developers used the Notes feature as a way of publishing games.
