            it’s thanks to a great deal of therapy, the constant grounding that ellie, lex and tim are alive & safe and the rattle of the good’ doctor’s medicine that keeps alan far from the same brink of panic that had settled deep and heavy in his bones after the park, the same panic stuffed low that led him to waking in cold sweat in the middle of the night at the first sound of distress from his company the first nights in costa rica, that had him flinching and wincing at every growl, snarl or even bark of the nearby dogs—-- it never leaves the palaeontologist; still leaves his legs tight as if he’ll need to race off at the drop of a hat, still leaves his palms sweat slick and useless the moments the birds stop calling and that eerie silence falls on him, still makes his shirt collar too tight in the unforgiving heat, and still sends that cold rush of fear down his spine. 

            rationally, he knows that there’d be no point to send him back to the park, knows that would cost to much money that’s already been spent, already been wasted in those long months wherein both costa rica and the usa’s government argued back & forth on the legitimate innocence that alan and the other survivors had ( and god, could it even be surviving? ), and ultimately knows that even if he were sent back, that’d be a suicide mission; a final farewell to the palaeontologist, a cruel reminder of the nightmares he can’t ever truly escape. 

              alan likes to pride himself on his rationality, his age old ability to get himself out of nearly everything and anything, and yet he feels like a kid sizing up his highschool bully, at the sight of @susponte; he almost stumbles back a foot, but it’s the same reminder that ellie would raise hell for him that helps keep both feet planted and his jaw to clench—-- alan liked to pride himself on his rationale, but he wasn’t opposed to giving into the urge to being foolish if it meant staying safe, if it meant never having to return to that godforsaken island and never hearing to hear nor see those creatures again—-- the palaeontologist feels that same throbbing pulse in his calves, ready to sprint at the moment that park is even mentioned, ❛ —-- you’re not putting me back there tim, never. ❜

was writing a whole thing about alan's wife, maria, but it got too?? heavy so instead have this 💕

how he likely met her in a bar after a dig season ( cause the man can only stomach crated beer so long yknow ) and how it was that typical / hollywood instant connection; how their whole conservation started because he asked her the best beer and that led into a discussion about beers and burgers and their other guilty pleasures; how she was a marine biologist and that became their whole shtick; the fact that a woman who loved the sea fell in love with a man who adored the dirt and vice versa.

how they did things backwards; sure they started dating, but it was less than a year before they moved in together and it took them a whole 5 years before they got married ( i like to think that alan proposed with some makeshift ring after a day of unpacking cause even tho he only just got this woman in his life he already couldn't stand to lose her ); how they likely did put on a suit and dress, exchanged vows in front of a priest etc but those were the only things traditional about their wedding; how they got married on the beach because they both agreed that there was nothing more beautiful than the sea at sunset even if it meant fighting for their lives in the dark to get to the court house then whatever bar / pub that was nearby for the afterparty / ceremony, how they likely had more friends than family at wedding, but they couldn't had asked for more and that they spent the night lazily dancing in the same room they got proposed in.

how she passed after her fight with cancer in alans arms; her favourite seashell pressed to one ear and the other pressed to his heartbeat as he read aloud the draft of his upcoming book.

how her death nearly broke him, but his colleagues, students and maria's family helped get him back on his feet; helped him find the version of himself that maria fell in love with again and helped drive him to complete the book maria was so excited to one day read.

how alan will swear that she was his one chance of true love, that he's tried dating since, but has never felt that same head-over-heels the way he felt with maria.

how, when people ask, he'll still tell people the story of the marine biologist who feel in love with a paleontologist; that a woman who loved the sea fell in love with a man who adored the dirt, and that he'll wear her favourite seashell on a chain / necklace for the rest of his life

A: the werewolf.

there's something inside a werewolf that's sharp, thorns and barbs coiling up in tight knots of vine even on their best days. halfway through a conversation, you'll forget your happiness and the pain comes back in a flash. you never meant to, but the sharpness has done harm on your behalf. it's defensive. it's leftover artillery from a battle you spent so long fighting that it still doesn't feel like it's truly over, does it? you want so badly to be soft. to take the hand that you are offered instead of baring your teeth. and it might be hard to believe, but you are soft. you're the softest one out there. it'll just take a while to untangle those vines enough to know that very little is often life-or-death, and not everything touches to hurt.

i hate how aggressively it leaned into the "family friendly fun!! jokes!! completely different characters with no real reasoning!!!"

i hate how they turned dodgson ( who in book canon is a terrifying villain; a literal sadist and murderer ) in to just some quirky guy, i hate how they turned the dinosaurs from something to be respected and feared into just some random plot devices and now all pay attention to flares / owen grady's hand/palm thing

and i hate how they shoved henry's character arc into such a short piece of time like it could have been shown so much better!! incorporate the same netflix series

but most importantly i hate hate hate ( your hair and makeup today ) how alan is turned into a characteur like you wanna show how hiding himself in his digs??? then show it!! don't turn him into the "old awkward character who hasn't evolved" it's such lazy shitty writing and i hate it
