i think "it takes a village" shouldn't be just "to raise a child". we should understand it takes a village to do literally everything we do. all day every day. without our communities we would not have drinking water or electricity or clean streets or food or shelter or anything. we cannot do any thing alone. we just can't. and with that comes the fact that you are not alone. you already have a community, seek to be an active part of it, you will feel better. reach out and thank them, they're happy to have you too. i promise. it takes a village to live.

I don't really go in the lost media and lostwave communities but I'm reading about how they found today a song they've been searching for years (Everyone Knows That aka. EKT) and turns out it originated from an 80s porno. The whole deal is so funny help.

for all of you asking about my books. Most of them start their lives as webcomics and as such are available to read for free. in fact i prefer it this way. i’m the happiest when people buying my books are the ones who genuinely want to support these stories because they already love them.  this way everyone is happy. now with that in mind here are pdfs of all of my works so far minus the full book  1 of fine print. that one is being uploaded on a monthly basis as well tho. https://www.deviantart.com/shiniez/gallery/79822473/comic-pdfs mature tagged books like sunstone will likely require you to have a deviantart account to download. the rest can be downloaded without it as far as i know.  also, for those of you interested in printed versions. any good comic store can order them for you. sunstone has been translated to over a dozen languages so far so it’s widely available. beyond that, book depository, barnes and noble, instocktrades and amazon are your best bets enjoy!

Scott McCloud’s incomparable “Understanding Comics”.
I swear you can open this book to any page and it’s amazing.
(ps it’s actually a digital image of a printed copy of a drawing of a painting of a pipe)

Tiffany couldn't quite work out how Miss Level got paid. Certainly the basket she carried filled up more than it emptied. They'd walk past a cottage and a woman would come scurrying out with a fresh-baked loaf or a jar of pickles, even though Miss Level hadn't stopped there. But they'd spend an hour somewhere else, stitching up the leg of a farmer who'd been careless with an axe, and get a cup of tea and a stale biscuit.
It didn't seem fair.
“Oh, it evens out,” said Miss Level, as they walked on through the woods.
“You do what you can. People give what they can, when they can. Old Slapwick there, with the leg, he's as mean as a cat, but there'll be a big cut of beef on my doorstep before the week's end, you can bet on it. His wife will see to it. And pretty soon people will be killing their pigs for the winter, and I'll get more brawn, ham, bacon and sausages turning up than a family could eat in a year.”
“You do? What do you do with all that food?”
“Store it,” said Miss Level.
“But you-”
“I store it in other people. It's amazing what you can store in other people.” Miss Level laughed at Tiffany's expression. “I mean, I take what I don't need round to those who don't have a pig, or who're going through a bad patch, or who don't have anyone to remember them.”
“But that means they'll owe you a favour!”
“Right! And so it just keeps on going round. It all works out.”
“I bet some people are too mean to pay-”
“Not pay,” said Miss Level, severely. “A witch never expects payment and never asks for it and just hopes she never needs to. But, sadly, you are right.”
“And then what happens?"
“What do you mean?”
“You stop helping them, do you?”
“Oh, no,” said Miss Level, genuinely shocked. “You can't not help people just because they're stupid or forgetful or unpleasant. Everyone's poor round here. If I don't help them, who will?”

I love how in so many fantasy series, especially those for girls, we’re told that selfishness is wrong and shit and it’s written as a character flaw, and usually given whole arcs of why with this moral that’s treated like taking a sledgehammer to the face.
And then there’s Discworld where PTerry goes “yeah but nah” and has Tiffany Aching explicitly turn selfishness into a weapon to defeat an Eldritch Fae Queen.
It seems small and trivial, but really think of whom the Tiffany Aching books are aimed at, and just let that sink in.
In a society where young girls are still being socialised to live according to certain “good” traits of femininity decided by patriarchal values, Pterry literally tells you that it’s okay to fucking be selfish, makes it’s a positive thing, makes it a power.
Just let that sink in.

The most difficult part of hiding a sword, I imagine, would not be in the actual hiding, but in squashing down the phenomenal urge to tell absolutely everyone that you *HAVE* a SWORD

I’ve never been a real star wars fan but the phantom menace came out when I was 6 and my older brother was 8 so we were absolutely among the target audience and we had toy light sabers & we spent a lot of time playing star wars but my brothers were anakin and obi wan etc. and my best friend was padmé which meant i had to come up with a star wars oc and since my brother was anakin i decided okay. i would be anakin’s sister.
i made up a backstory that i was his twin sister who also lived on tatooine and i also had latent force potential but qui gon and obi wan didn’t even try to meet me even when anakin mentioned me and they left me behind.
this was an utter betrayal to me obviously, like my brother got rescued and i got abandoned and i could have been him and i should have been him. i should’ve been at his side. i should have gotten training and all else. i should have been a jedi too.
but they didn’t even care to meet me. so i had this intense grudge against the jedi and i ended up developing my skills myself and then i grew up and got myself off tattooine and set out on a mission as a rogue force user to kill obi wan.
and 6 year old me really embodied that role. she felt that. so when I was like 25 & rewatched the original star wars trilogy for the first time since childhood, when obi wan came on I was like ugh. I hate that guy. and my friend was like “WHY?”
and I thought about it and realized it wasn’t actually his character. I was remembering my childhood self insert oc beef.
Like, sorry you wouldn’t get it but obi wan and I have history.
