This is a comparison of the speeds Max was travelling on a typical lap (blue line), I’ve used L35 as a baseline with L37 (white line) when the slowing happened.
Where the white line starts going down is approximately when he got the message to hand the position back strategically, initially the car is just slowed by going down the gears (which is a normal way of handing back the position) but then the brakes are applied at 100% for what looks like to be about a second, as seen in the red box below.
During the braking the car decelerated from about 250 kph (69m/s) to 125kph (34m/s), some simple calculations we know from the FIA document that the braking force was 2.6g so the time he was braking for (to decelerate by 35m/s) was 1.4s.
If you think that 1.4s of braking isn’t significant, I ask you to reconsider the speeds that the cars should be travelling down that straight (300kph or 84m/s) and how much a car does move in 1.4 seconds.
So I’ve just realized I have no clue how large the F1 community is on tumblr. Everyone, if you’re an F1 Blog, or if you frequently blog about F1 reblog this so we can try and get a number on how many of us there are. We could be a small army. We could be a large army. We must know.
hey everyone! something great that i’ve seen about f1blr is the fact that we come from everywhere in the world. aaand since i’m a stadistics nerd, i was thinking about making a map to show where we all come from!
so i guess reblog and put your country in the tags and i’ll do the rest ☺️
the map will be upgraded and edited daily here: (x)
