Ok, when I think of indie sleaze, I think of Alexa Chung, Arctic Monkeys, and the Olsen twins, but apparently some people think of neon colours, shutter shades, edm music, and gold lamé? Are there different subgenres of indie sleaze or is it more just about the *feeling* than the aesthetic?
I can't remember the title or authors, so I'm proving as many details as I can.
The first fic centred around Kylo loving to bathe Rey every night. Rey was rescued off of Jakku and was very innocent in this fic. She was of age, but there was a certain ddlg vibe to it. Rey was also a virgin, but kylo was not. I beleive there was a betrayal element to it, but I can't remember. Kylo kept Rey's force abilities a secret.
The second one was much longer and had Kylo and Rey getting married and spending their honeymoon on Bespin, where they also worked with the Resistance and Leia to build a new government (I think there was a tag that said something like "when your mom crashes your honeymoon"). There was no pregnancy, except a mention in the very last chapter. Kylo and Rey were able to float in the air via the force whilst having sex.
Any help in finding these fics would be really appreciated! I first read these before I created my AO3 account and haven't been able to find them since despite searching for so long.
“I felt dumb and subdued. Every time I tried to concentrate, my mind glided off, like a skater, into a large empty space, and pirouetted there, absently.”
- Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar
“I didn’t want any flowers, I only wanted
to lie with my hands turned up and be utterly empty.
How free it is, you have no idea how free.”
- Sylvia Plath
“There is something demoralizing about watching two people get more and more crazy about each other, especially when you are the only extra person in the room. It’s like watching Paris from an express caboose heading in the opposite direction–every second the city gets smaller and smaller, only you feel it’s really you getting smaller and smaller and lonelier and lonelier, rushing away from all those lights and excitement at about a million miles an hour.”
- Sylvia Plath
So I noticed in A:TLA, and it’s carried over in LoK, that Airbenders always seem to have an advantage in a fight. And at first, it felt like plot armour, particularly in A:TLA.
But when Aang fought Bumi, he lost most of that advantage. And I realised that this wasn’t just plot armour. Someone had sat and worked it out: nobody has had to fight Airbenders for generations.
None of the other nations have had to train to face them, or practised sparring with them, or anything. Apart from Bumi, no bender in the show has ever even met an airbender before Aang comes along. And in LoK, for the most part people still haven’t. We never see fights between those who have (for e.g. we never see Tenzin and Lin fight); when Korra and Tenzin use airbending, its a unique fighting style that people aren’t trained to manage.
It’s a really small detail, and it fundamentally works to give the heroes an advantage (and make up for Aang’s young age and lack of combat experience), but I love how it’s an advantage in combat for completely logical reasons.
