To be honest, Koun was rather stunned with the world around him. He'd always been color blind, he knew he had been. It came with what he was, since he was a kitsune, a fox. It came with the territory....and he'd never really noticed.

How do you even notice something you never had to begin with?

To him...it was just that the world was a little bland. Blues were pretty vivid....at least he thought it was blue. He'd been told it was blue. But most other colors were....bland.

So now? Now.....the world was so bright. So vivid. He...he didn't know what the names of all these colors were anymore. What was red? Pink? Green? Blue?

He didn't know. He didn't know anything anymore.

So there he was, sitting off to the side, wide eyed and stareing at everything he could.

Went through and made a pretty important list. A list I've been putting off for about 5 years.

There's people I wish I could track down, to make sure I have their urls correct and their mun names right. But It's been so long, most of them are dead urls. Which is fine. It makes me feel better to know that they are no longer on tumblr or are severely inactive to the point I shouldn't be worried.

I won't go into details unless someone messages me and they're curious, because I've had 5 years to heal, and get my shit together.

He took the mask back....turning it over in his hands briefly before letting out a sigh.

"Everything." he replied crypitcally, before setting his jaw and putting the mask back on.

Again.....the moment it was on, everything was brighter. Different. For a moment more....he was confused. He stared down at the girl and her talking doll.....and finally something clicked.

"......What.....is the color of your doll?" It was a strange question to ask, as he still hadn't really answered any of her own questions.

If he was right....then...this mask......

Oh! Elize hadn't meant to startle Koun. Then again, she did realize she and Teepo had kind of just approached him without warning. It made sense that he'd be surprised. She didn't get an answer to her question, or her words in general, but instead Koun offered her his mask.

"Okay..." She wasn't sure why he wanted her to try it on, but she removed her own mask and passed it to Teepo. The floating plush toy held it in his mouth, and Elize carefully fixed Koun's mask on the side of her head. She waited a few moments. Blink. Blink. Blink.

"Well, Elize?" Teepo's words were met with a small shake of her head. Everything looked the same to her. So, she removed the mask and offered it back to Koun.

"No... I'm sorry," Elize answered. "But... what seemed different before? If you don't mind me asking."

He jumped a bit at being spoken too, blinking down at the girl who'd approached him and her....strangely talking puppet toy thing. Ah...right, he'd stopped in the middle of the way, hadn't he. His eyes went back up to scan the area, before her words hit him.

Right. The mask.

Scrambling, he took it off his head....

And almost instantly the world dulled back to normal. What....what was this thing?

"This.....Do me a favor, put this on your head for a moment." He'd ignored her words for the most part, handing the mask to her. "I....I just want to verify something. Thats all....."

he waited until hopefully she did as he asked....then....

".....Does anything seem different to you?"

"Hey, are you okay?"

"Yeah! You look all shocked and stuff!"

Elize had been going around the festival with Teepo, as one would expect, when she too had been stopped by the mask man. She'd gotten a rather cute bunny mask, and even convinced the mask man to give Teepo one too. Her plan after that was to check out the games, but she had spotted Koun before that could happen. Now, Elize hadn't been there the previous year. She didn't know what had occurred, or that people had been possessed. What she saw was someone who looked like maybe he could use some company.

Following Teepo's words, she stepped a bit closer to Koun and looked him over. Her first thought was to ask if he was hurt, but nothing seemed wrong in that regard. In fact, he seemed fine physically.

Then she saw his mask. A soft smile formed.

"I like your mask," she told him. That wasn't helping, though, and she knew it. She shook her head. "But anyway... I'm a healer, so I'd be happy to help if you need it. Or if you just need someone to talk to, I can do that too."

"Don't forget me," Teepo couldn't help chiming in.

Spring Festitales 2024

He honestly should have been expecting it. Winding up here once again. It happened every year, without fail....but after the events of last year, he'd been a bit apprehensive.

Last year had not been....fun. He still had a few nightmares about it. He still wasn't sure if he'd been completely forgiven for it. He doubted it.

But that was last year. This was a new year. A year where he once again found himself on that path, lined with cherry blossoms and lanterns.

It was a comforting scent, to be sure.

Making his way up the path, he spotted some familiar faces, some new, and couldn't help the small smile on his face. It was good to see that despite the events of last year, everyone had returned.

To start anew, wasn't it?

"Mask....take a mask....Free masks."

A hooded figure was stopping as many people as they could ahead of him, handing out various masks to festival go-ers. Was that this years gimmick? A....what was it called....masquerade?

Something gleamed from under the robed figures hood, and they stopped in front of him, stareing up at him intently...at least he thought they were. He raised an eyebrow as the figure chuckled.

".....Free mask, yes? A very special free mask....." the figure pulled out a white kitsune mask, pushing it into Koun's hands. "special....have fun. Free masks......Take a mask." They wandered away, leaving Koun standing there, holding the mask in his hand.

How peculiar. He knew his ears and tails were not hidden here, but....still....

He made his way up the steps and towards the village, thinking about it to himself. This place was strange to begin with.....so he really honestly shouldn't question it. With a hum, he fastened the mask to the side of his head.

Moved to take a step....

And froze.

Was the world always so....bright?

"You really should take better care of yourself. Stress can hurt you, it's a silent killer after all."

Color him surprised that he gets a hug! It's been a while since Chihiro had come to visit, after all. He would have gone to look for her....but at the same time he hadn't wanted to be a bother.

A small part of him had wondered if she'd forgotten him.

He'd quickly stomped that out, and instead gave her a big grin.

"Well well well, look who it is. Come to grace me with your presence?" his voice is teasing. "How long has it been since you've come to visit? I feel so betrayed."

Koun gave a hum, reaching up and taking Sora's hand and giving it a gentle squeeze. Even like this, Sora was always looking out for him. And it was nice that he understood that Koun thrived around people in general. While Koun had gotten used to staying indoors and home....he still liked to be around people. It was in his core, after all.

"Don't worry, I'll let you know. But you could always join me." He knew that Sora likely wouldn't....but the offer was there.

"I really hope nothing like last year happens this year. I really did fear for my life. I could probably handle rain or something....but being completely doused would likely snuff me out like a candle."

"And I have a very good reason right in front of me to not want that to happen."

He   knew   Koun   wouldn't   mind   ,   but   he   just   wanted   to   make   sure considering how   his   fox   tended   to   be   super   social   ——   unlike   him.   It   all boiled   down   to   not   wanting   to   be   a   hassle   for   his   beloved.

❛   Alright   ,   if   you   say   so.   Just   tell   me   if   you   need   space.   I   know   how much   you   enjoy   socializing   with   others.   Though   ,   it   does   leave   me feeling   the   slightest   bit   lonely.   ❜

Bringing   a   hand   up   ,   he   gently   pat   Koun's   head.   ❛   Don't   worry   ,   I'll make   sure   you   stay   nice   &   dry   ,   &   if   something   like   last   year   happens again   ,   I   won't   hesitate   to   slice   that   tornado   in   two   this   time.   I'll   cut   it up   until   it's   just   a   bloody   stain   on   the   ground.   ❜

The words are echoed in almost shock.

"Does it look like I mind?" he honestly sounded a bit offended that Sora would assume he'd mind this. He just gets more time with is love, after all.

"Just.....leave me out of any antics at the beach. I don't need to be traumatized...." he paused, shuddered, and shook his head. "....again."

He   closed   his   eyes   &   sighed.   Right   ,   he   would   like   to   avoid   such   a scenario   again   lest   he   decide   to   burn   everything   to   the   ground   &   cover the   ground   with   crimson.   Not   that   he   blamed   Koun   ,   he   could   never blame   the   one   he   loved.

❛   Yes   ,   please   do   keep   yourself   in   check.   Or   rather   ,   because   of   that   , I   had   to   resort   to   this.   I   do   hope   you   don't   mind   me   gluing   myself   to you   24/7   ,   but   I'd   rather   not   have   to   whack   my   husband.   I'd   also   like to   avoid   becoming   crystal. ❜

For a moment he doesn't answer, merely stares at the lead in contemplation. Any air of teasing had vanished completely at the reminder of last year.

"......Okay." The word is soft, and full of regret, but then he was grinning again.

"Not like I planned on it though. I'd rather not have that happen a second time. One was enough to make me feel like absolute shit, after all. I don't think I'd be able to live with myself if I did something like it again."

Yet another chuckle. He liked it when Koun decided to be a tease. However , he was being serious here.
