“The one’s who werent seeing their kids were kind of getting moved towards the gymnasium. There’s all the people in the gymnasium that we’ve come to know so well over the last  few years. We had no idea who they were, who their kids were. How within 24 hours we were gonna be connected for the rest of our lives.”

“We were pretty close. We were a lot alike. I just remember she used to always look after me, you know, I was the youngest in the family and kind of looked over a lot. She was just always there, and always made sure I was recognized. She was just an amazing sister.” - Mike Scott

In December 1999, eight months after a madman’s bullet took her only child from her, Sue Petrone uttered a wish out loud. Her wish? That she could again her the voice of her son, Danny Rohrbough. A couple days later, the phone rang. On the line was a woman whose sister, Rachel, had also been murdered at Columbine, a woman who had been digging through videotapes when she found one made at Columbine High.
On the tape was Danny Rohrbough, wearing the same green Sony T-shirt he would die in, laughing and joking and talking about his use of vending machines at school – silly kid stuff. The tape had been made several months before the Columbine tragedy, and the first time Sue got to see it her wish came true. She heard Danny’s voice again. More than nine years later, she still watches it now and then – and it remains the best Christmas present she’s ever received or, she believes, ever will.”

June 13, 2023 - Even though it’s been over 24 years since Rachel passed, my heart completely choked up reading this again tonight. I’ve read it many times before and been ok. But sometimes your heart just aches for your loved ones. I know many of you relate. I’ve never shared this before because it’s been sacred to me. I found this letter in Rachel’s room after she died. She was supposed to give it to me in 1997 for my wedding, for a memory book my sisters made for me. I used to tease her that I’d never see it, even though she swore it was done. (Yeah right Rach!) But 1999 came and she was gone. Rachel left our family several gifts behind. But this is one of the most important ones to me. I wish I had known I only had a year and a half left with her. I would have done so much more. But Rachel - being the amazing sister she was - she gave me a final goodbye. I cannot express how much this meant to me the day I found it. It was finished. The back has pictures and dried flowers she pasted together. But I’ll keep that part to myself. Thank you Rachel for being such a wonderful sister. I truly do miss you with all my heart. I can feel you tonight. ❤️ - Beth

“I spend a lot of time at Rachel’s grave. I was there one evening, and I started thinking about the two dates on her grave stone - August 5th, 1981. I remember every detail about that day. I remember holding her for the first time. This is where I get emotional, so I have to fight it. I remember her first cry. I remember every detail about that day.
Of course, I remember everything about the day she died. Every second of that day, I remember vividly. But as I was looking at the two dates, I also started thinking about the space between the two dates. Because that was her life.” - Darrell Scott
