Campfire moments seem ordinary at that time. They are far from ordinary when I look back on the photos though. Sometimes good photos get lost in the shuffle. This one features prominently on the website, but I couldn’t find it here in a regular post, which makes zero sense. Here it is now. . #camfirecoffeeclub @campfirecoffeeclub #campfirecooking #campfire #camping #nature #travel #adventure #hiking #outdoors #x #campinglife #outdoor #camp #camper #explore #photography #mountains #offroad #trekking #bushcraft #roadtrip #naturephotography #wanderlust #glamping #travelphotography #survival #fishing #summer (at Canada) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZsa2lEvc5S/?utm_medium=tumblr

These are the trophies that remind me, almost daily, of the two-season-long whitetail bowhunt; and the fact that this stuff is difficult until it isn’t. Swipe 👉 to see the cutthroat, and the alpine lake it came from. These hike-in fly fishing destinations are so amazing as far as scenery and solitude goes. Not to mention the quality of fishing opportunities. Relatively easy to discover, and varying degrees of difficulty in logistics of getting there. My heartfelt advice? Get out from behind the steering wheel and onto your boots. I promise you won’t regret it. . #carousel #flyfishinglife #flyfishalberta #travelalberta #canadiana #fromthewildca #foodafieldpodcast (at Alberta's Rockies) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZPkqz4P_Fx/?utm_medium=tumblr

Bowhunting from the back of the bike has some advantages. One major disadvantage, yet to be figured out, is how to get a bear out of the bush on the same bike? Trailer/sled is a viable option. Hunting the immediate peripheries of where animals feel comfortable. Being patient. Believing in, and enjoying, the process has led to a lot of successes for me over the years with bowhunting. It is a lesson that has taken me decades to learn and re-learn. It does seem natural to just barge into the middle of all the action. However, that is the path to the dark side. .photo by @kevinkossowan . #bearkodiak #whitetailbuck #traditionalbowhunting #recurvehunting #littledeltabow #woodarrows (at Alberta, Canada) https://www.instagram.com/foodafieldpodcast/p/CY-lnlAr_m8/?utm_medium=tumblr

Last weekend I was able to sit down with Kevin and chat about his show, “From the Wild”. I recorded it all for the latest podcast episode. There are likely several things that you didn’t know about Kevin, or his show, in this episode. A bit of behind the scenes content along with Season 9 production plans. You can listen wherever podcasts are heard. Just search “Food Afield Podcast”. It will show up. I know you will enjoy this one. The picture? Kevin fishing from a dock at sunset. I took this shot in Sweden while we were filming there severally years ago. . #fromthewildca #foodafieldpodcast @applepodcasts @spotify @anchor.fm @radio_public (at Västra Götaland County) https://www.instagram.com/foodafieldpodcast/p/CY1tDrfJ_3s/?utm_medium=tumblr

I wish I had a better memory. I’m not sure who took this picture. I believe @primitve? Anyway, this early 00’s buck was taken with the Little Delta Bow, a late 50’s Bear Kodiak. As I recall, this is one of the bows that accompanied Fred Bear and Glenn St. Charles on their famous Little Delta, AK hunts in the 50’s? @pacyew do you happen to recall any more information about this bow? It was a leatherwall thread that was going around 2005ish? There’s a backstory to how I came to have possession of this bow for this particular November Whitetail hunt. I did manage to tip over a decent buck while I had it. I wrote an article about the hunt that Don Thomas edited and published in @traditional.bowhunter magazine. This bow is the reason I went out of my way to purchase my current 57/58 Kodiak. . #littledeltabow (at Alberta, Canada) https://www.instagram.com/foodafieldpodcast/p/CYxfYM-rkDf/?utm_medium=tumblr

Hares are more than just good braise pot ingredients…they’re an excellent source of fly-tying materials too. The pursuit of Hare has evolved from a simple by-catch of bear hunting, to a worthy goal in, and of themselves. I am looking forward to May. https://www.instagram.com/p/CYuvYmMP6IC/?utm_medium=tumblr
