A NEW MUSICAL ENTITY

Former Holloways frontman launches new project to shine a light on emerging talent.

“Why Can’t You Hold the Light of Heroes?” EP July 15th

Acclaimed singer, songwriter and former Holloways frontman, Alfie Jackson, is launching a new project / label which aims to connect unsigned artists with fans.

Fledgling is an innovative approach to releasing diverse music created in songwriting sessions.

The aim is to help new artists release great songs and collaborations with other writers, producers and artists; and have their music heard by a larger, communal audience.

Alfie said “It is mainly a collaborative artist project - think of Calvin Harris, Mike Oldfield, Manfred Mann or any dance producers who feature various artists. But Fledgling is also kind of a label/playlist curator for other artists too. There are many great songs written in co-writing sessions that need to be heard. So I have created Fledgling - artist, studio, label, curator and more.”

As an artist - collaborating with, connecting and developing artists. Encouraging artists to be brave and push music to new levels.

As a studio - new, unsigned artists will not be charged for songs to be recorded, mixed and mastered.

As a label - the opposite of traditional labels - distributing the majority of master royalties to the artists, writers, producers and additional performers involved.

As a curator - featuring the artists on socials and platforms and as Fledgling grows, more and more fans will discover the artists.

Fledgling will also be booking concerts featuring a line-up of artists connected with the project.

Alfie said: "The main drive behind launching Fledgling is that I want to help artists thrive away from traditional record label structures. I want artists to release music that isn’t restricted by genre expectations. I also want to shed light on how royalty distribution is often unclear and unfair; particularly in this era of streaming. The #brokenrecord campaign which fights for the rights of artists, writers, musicians and producers is close to our hearts. CLICK HERE!

“Streaming platforms allow millions of artists to release music but Fledgling will be a unique figure on the radar. So let’s create our own community where artists can help each other. We're stronger together and can all learn and grow through projects like Fledgling.”

Fledgling aims to release a song every 6 weeks. As part of the launch, Alfie has brought together four stunning songs from brilliant artists who deserve to be heard and celebrated. The debut EP on the Fledgling label is called: “Why Can’t You Hold the Light of Heroes?”

SUPERHEROES - LEAD SINGLE OF THE EP A song written by Alfie Jackson, Richard Turvey and a secret artist who has her own amazing material out there. It was written and recorded in one day.

A breezy, upbeat folk pop song about your father-figure being your hero through your life so many times. The lush double tracked vocals on this are simply gorgeous. “We’re no superheroes - but you were mine that day” - giving us all hope that we can be more than we dream.

LEFT OUT IN THE SUN

Alfie Jackson put this one together by himself after seeing an old photo at his family home - it is fading year after year, sat on the shelf by the window. Alfie said: “It was one of those songs that just came as I could feel the cold hands of time. The past seeming so near yet so far; it brings a tear to the eye when you feel the emotion and memories come flooding back.”

Haunting in its yearning for the past, this piano-led ballad sprinkled with sonic dust over a growing swell of emotional vocals, guitars and strings, builds and builds before punching its way to an anthemic, stirring finale.

CAN’T HOLD THE WEATHER BACK

This collaboration features artist Julian Leben. He wrote the song with Duck and Alfie Jackson. Another gem written and record ed in one day.

A happy acceptance of love and life - this upbeat song drives home the feeling of being hopelessly devoted despite any thoughts to the contrary - the feelings in life are irresistible and we “can’t hold the weather back” so we must go with it.

LEAVE A LIGHT ON FOR ME

Guest vocalist Christine Schneider brings this song to life with a glow in her voice as warm and bright as the idea of “coming home”. Written one morning by Alfie Jackson, it begins with laid back optimism as Christine sings: “I’ll wake up with the sunrise” ahead of a long journey home. The song builds with drums, ukuleles, bringing a warm and melodic sense of movement that grows throughout the journey in the song.

Alfie said audiences can expect to hear more from these artists, both through Fledgling and in their own right. As Fledgling develops there will be more artists featuring on both original music but also unique cover versions as “B-sides”.

Fans will be encouraged to buy via Bandcamp; and to support Fledgling through crowdfunding. However, Fledgling releases will be available on all the usual platforms to maximise exposure; despite the issues with royalty distribution.
