“You and Gortash?”

He expected Rune to look affronted at the accusation, but instead they appeared rather resigned. Small comments from the last few days finally made sense to Gale: Karlach grumbling that Rune had “at least improved their taste in men,” Shadowheart quipping that she “didn’t think Rune was into chest hair.” Gale recalled how Gortash had greeted Rune when they’d entered his chambers earlier today, the man appearing almost disappointed at the sight of them. Like some part of him had hoped Rune would change their mind and join his cause.

In light of this information, something about his reaction made Gale uneasy. Like there was something here he recognized in light of this new context, something he would have preferred not to see.

“Yes?” Rune said, answering his question as his mind gnawed on the memory of Gortash’s demise like a dog with a bone. “Maybe? His corpse didn’t tell me much on the subject.”

Well, there were other options to consider. Maybe the infatuation was one sided on Gortash’s part. “Perhaps you were simply-“

“But I think I remember fucking him in Moonrise towers once.” Rune blew up at their hair, which had started to fall past their eyes. “Like, not much of it, no specifics, just the fact we used Ketheric’s bed.”

Gale was very glad he was sitting down and standing still, because if he had been walking, he would have tripped.

The next chapter of “I Will Face the Gods” is gonna be on the longer side partially because it has a lot of narrative push behind it, and partially cus it’s Gale POV and that man has so many thoughts.

I’m hoping to get a preview out later today.

Thankfully, once this chapter is out, we just have one to go and I have a good chunk of it already written. So yay, we’re in the home stretch!
