No matter how progressive or well-read you are, there are always going to be moments in your life where somebody pushes back against something that's so culturally ingrained you never even considered it before. And you'll say "Huh, it never occurred to me to challenge this but you're right" and that doesn't mean you were "morally toxic" before, it means you're a non-omniscient human capable of growth.

It's so wild to me to see under that Xiran Jay Zhao's post about the bombed ukrainian printing house comments like "I hope everyone is safe." And I get it, people are saying this out of kindness and pure consern, there's nothing wrong with it. It just shows how little coverage our war has abroad.
No, no one in Ukraine is safe. No one in that printing house was safe, in fact, 7 people died. No one in a huge hypermarket in Kharkiv on Saturday was safe, in fact, there were 18 killed and 48 injured. And all this happened in the span of only a few days.
No one is safe in territories occupied by russians because the whole family can get killed by refusing to give up their home to russian soldiers. And every time ukrainian army liberates some region, they find mass graves and torture chambers there.
No one is safe even far away from the front line and the border with russia, because missiles and drones fly all over Ukraine, and you never know when the next one will land on your house.
Hell, ukrainians aren't safe even abroad, because there's always a chance there will be some crazy russian or russian supporter who will decide to beat or kill us. And I'm not making this up.
I'm aware that I'm more safe than the people close to the front line and the border with russia or in occupied territories. I don't hear explosions every day, unlike my friend from Kharkiv. But that doesn't mean I'm completely safe. Missiles and drones fly by at least several times a week, especially at night, when I don't hear the sound of an air raid siren simply because I'm asleep.
I am not safe.
My family is not safe.
My friends all over Ukraine are not safe.
We're not safe until russia is gone from our territories. That's why we need all that ammunition and aid. War won't magically stop if our allies stop sending us weapons; that's not how it works. We'll just be more unsafe, because russia won't stop unless it is forced to.
Here's ukrainian news sources you can follow that report daily:

Some trans women consistently experienced male privilege before transitioning, but some did not, because they were never able to perform masculinity as they were expected to. And someone who's Bad At Performing Gender is lower in status than someone who can neatly fit in to either gender.
Here's a key part of the transfemme experience that is very overlooked: when you don't pass, people don't actually see you as a man, or treat you like a man.

8. I'd like to be purely geometric, but it is a bit difficult to do certain tasks.
You suddenly switch bodies with your icon. On a scale of 1 to 10, (10 being the highest value) how well are you coping with that change?

me: i'm adding realism to this medieval fantasy setting
what people think i mean: grime, gratuitous sexual assault and murder, misogyny, child marriage
what i actually mean: everyone reads out loud, women are spinning wool all the time, peasants marry at 20, people wear colors.

Agreed. First, it's a matter of right and wrong, second, it's a matter of survival.
These people are not, actually, in favor of human rights for Jews because Jews are human. They are conditionally in favor of supporting Jews because it is convenient for them, because they've decided that they hate Muslims or queer people or whatever more than they hate us.
We aren't first on the menu, but make no mistake, we ARE on the menu.
Fellow politically progressive Jews, do you know what we're not going to do?
We're not going to allow TERFs into our spaces just because they're Jewish or pro-Israel
We're not going to allow pro-Trump people or rhetoric into our spaces just because they're Jewsh or pro-Israel
We're not going to let racist, homophobic, or islamophobic people or rhetoric into our spaces just because they're Jewish or pro-Israel
We're not going to start treating Fox as a legitimate news organization just because they're pro-Israel
We are NOT going to throw away our progressive values and entertain bigoted, harmful people and ideas outside of I/P just because they aren't calling for our genocide.
We are not going to lower the bar for who and what we are willing to allow in our spaces because of I/P.

Asking as a historian and an information professional; NOT as a frightened Jewish individual concerned with rising anti-Semitism in the Western left. I always like to be clear about what conversations I’m having, and in which capacity I am opening those conversations. Or in this case, polls.
And for the record, I selected the third option.
Also you can’t edit polls so the typos will remain.

I have gotten my tooth fixed! I just drank a huge glass of cold tap water, and it was the most refreshing beverage I've ever tasted. Maybe later I'll have some hot tea, or chilled juice.
I could really use a baby bottle warmer right now. I raised two bottle-fed babies without ever needing one, but now, I do.
Why? Because I got one of my teeth fitted for a crown a couple weeks ago, and the temporary fell out. I glued it back in, but on Saturday it split in half and fell out in pieces, and further home repairs were not successful.
So now I have a tooth that's just completely naked, with no enamel at all. It doesn't hurt too much, unless I drink a liquid that isn't perfectly at body temperature, in which case incredible nerve pain shoots down my entire jaw.
And it turns out that making drinks exactly the right temperature is annoying, and then you have to drink them right away or they'll cool off and once again become torturedrinks.
So, I need a bottle warmer.
Luckily, the appointment for a real crown is tomorrow. I think I won't die of thirst before then.

The concept of "Trump Derangement Syndrome" is classic totalitarianism. The only reason a person might disagree with the Correct Political Beliefs or criticize the Fearless Leader is that they are mentally ill and suffer from delusions, and obviously there is no reason to listen to such people.
"Deranged" is an insult, not a word intended to describe mental illness neutrally.
For everyone who has the luxury to feel like they can afford to let Trump take office instead of Biden to “teach the Dems a lesson “…
I can’t afford it. My LIFE is at risk if Trump regains power. I am visibly trans and nonbinary. I do not and will never pass as a cis person. I want to get an X on my next driver’s license, which at this point may mean it’s legally risky for me to travel to visit my parents in Florida, since Florida law views ID cards that do not reflect a person’s birth sex as “invalid”. Theoretically I might not be able to get back through airport security, for example. I may not be able to legally drive in Florida. I might not be legally able to rent a car in Florida.
And Trump is Ron DeSantis, but for the whole god damned country.
And that’s just from the perspective of a white trans person. The things Trump did to every minority in this country should not be forgotten. The things he WANTS to do to minorities should not be underestimated. His presidency was just as bad as we all warned you it would be, and his next will be worse.

Chore tip of the day: Pad the to-do list
I really enjoy crossing things off, so I make sure I have more opportunities to do it. In particular, if there's a chore that requires multiple steps with waiting in between, or one that I might not be able to do all of, I list each significant step.
So instead of "Do laundry" my list might say, "wash, dry, put away clothes." If I'm planning multiple loads, I can list it multiple times. Then, when I start the first load of laundry, I can cross something off. I don't have to wait hours until I finish all the laundry.
This way, as I keep looking at the list, I can see that I'm making progress even if I haven't finished any entire items.
