Hob was born in a cult, later in life, said cult was investigated by authorities (the cult was involved in not so...cool stuff...akdbvkadv) so, being out in a new world, he was placed with Dream in order to help him adapt better in a normal setting (de-programming him about the things the cult told him about the world, religion etc etc)

At the beginning everything was going dandy...to dandy for Dream´s liking.

One day Dream realizes that Hob has, somehow, mistook Dream as the "real god" since the fake god was taken by the law and yadda yadda, and that´s the reason Hob was being so cooperative, even if he wasn´t making any progress in the de-programming thing.

Dream doesn´t like the idea of Hob portraying him as God but the more the relationship goes....the more he starts to take advantage of it...
