BOOK REVIEW: Harmony by Project Itoh
Description: In the future, the world will be free of diseases. Every adult under the admedistration is inserted with the WatchMe chip which controls every single aspect of their body, monitors it and gives you the perfect lifestyle for you. Every person cares about their neighbour. Suicide is non-existent. Your body is now public. Society is perfect. This is the story of 3 teenage girls who decide to rebel against such a society by starving themselves to death. The plan fails, causing one of them to die as a consequence. Several years later, Tuan Kirie is now a member of the admedistration society she hates. But all that changes when in one day, multiple suicides take place across the world as if coordinated. Her interest in the case increases when she realises, that her dead friend and comrade is somehow involved.
Genre: Sci-Fi, thriller, dystopian Review: An amazing concept beautifully executed! 9/10 Harmony is extremely, *extremely* underrated. It beautifully mixes dystopian fiction with sci-fi to create a story that haunts the readers long after the last page (and twist). This book has been on my reading list for about a year now, I first heard of it from the game, “Alter-Ego”. And I can tell you, it did not disappoint. It’s got a wonderful, disturbing setting that is both believable and frightening. The characters are all amazing and diverse, even the side characters feel real. The fact that such a world may not be too far only enhances the feeling of discomfort. Since it’s also sci-fi, which is something I’m not used to, some paragraphs did require a bit of re-reading to understand the scientific stuff. What actually makes it special to me is the fact that the book is actually written in a code-like format, as can be seen in the picture I have given. I found that to be very interesting. The reason why it is done so is even more so. The ending of the novel made me want to throw my phone away and hide under a blanket with a teddy bear by my side. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a good thriller sci-fi, dystopian fiction or just looking for something to unsettle them. Trust me, this book will unsettle you. If you have read it, please let me know in the comments what you thought of this book and your own review of it! To everyone who has taken the time to read this review, I sincerely thank you and urge you to go back to your work as well. I don’t want you to get into trouble because you were reading a long and cumbersome review. If you have any suggestions on how I can improve my review, what book I can read next or even to tell me that my review is rubbish, please do let me know in the comments. Any and all suggestions are welcome! Read-o-meter: I cannot state this enough. This book deserves more recognition. Please give it a try!

It was the feel of her presence in my room that woke me - again. Yeah, I loved her. I couldn’t help it. She was my brother.

BOOK REVIEW: Luna by Julie Anne Peters
Description: All Liam wants is to be a girl. So at night, he dresses, puts on makeup and becomes Luna, his true identity. And the only other person who knows this is her sister Regan. As Liam slowly starts transitioning, Regan is confronted with a load of anxiety, from herself, from Luna, from her parents. How will friends and family react to this transition?
Genre: YA, transgender fiction Review: A beautiful story told from a rather unique perspective 9/10 Luna is a beautiful story about a transgender looking for acceptance and self-identity. And the best part is that it is told from the sister’s perspective! This POV is quite unique and shows how other people in general understand and process transitioning. This story puts as much focus on Luna, as much as it does on the sister, Regan. It simultaneously shows Luna’s struggles with acceptance and Regan’s struggles for her own identity. Being the only keeper of this secret takes its toll on Regan, affecting her personal life as well. Regan feels trapped by the weight of the secret and longs to have her own life and her own identity. Luna feels trapped by her gender identity, feeling that she’s stuck in a body that isn’t hers. And the book beautifully portrays these two similar yet different stories of identity. It never only emphasises one over the other. It doesn’t negate one as small and the other as more important. Both struggles are equally important. And that’s where the beauty of this book lies. I recommend this book to anyone interested in insight into a transgender’s struggles, or looking for a transgender novel from a different perspective, or anyone looking for queer literature! Read-o-meter: Trust me. It’s too beautiful to miss.

In the future, when giving books recs to people, I want to, as much as possible, come off as Stefon from those SNL bits:
"If you are looking for a book where snooty English majors get their shit rocked by magic and ghosts, look no further than A Lesson in Vengeance. It's got everything: dark academia, creepy dorms that are somehow less creepy than IRL dorms, lesbians, ritualistic sacrifices, Emily Dickinson obsessions."

BOOK REVIEW: Radio Silence by Alice Oseman
Description: To the outside world, Frances is the typical studious and "accomplished" girl, her head forever stuck in her books. But on the inside, she's an artist, mainly drawing fan art on her favourite podcast, Universe City. Aled is a quiet, shy boy, known to others as having no personality. But on the inside, he's the creator behind the underrated podcast, Universe City. When these two meet and discover each other's secrets, it'll create a bond of trust unlike any they have had before. But, the podcast suddenly becomes famous and their secrets are threatened. Both Frances and Aled will have to confront their pasts and do their best to keep their friendships and dreams alive.
Genre: YA, coming of age
Review: Radio Silence (Alice Oseman) - fantastically beautiful 12/10
Radio Silence is a beautiful gem. There is a little bit of everything for everyone; slice of life, coming of age, heartwarming, heart-wrenching, mystery, romance, and a wide range of characters, each with their own personalities, quirks and sexualities. This was something I thoroughly enjoyed reading, to the point that I wanted to read it again immediately after I had finished.
This book displays the reality of teenagers and social media in the 21st century. Though the ending may be considered a bit stretched, my crazy, romantic heart can allow this. It's still a fitting end for the story and is sure to give you the feels.
What strikes me as the most beautiful is the relationship between Frances and Aled. They make the perfect platonic soulmates (no they don't get together). The way they connect, fight, but still, look out for each other is a beautiful thing to read. The rest of the characters are nothing less, each very real, each close to my heart, each bringing a bit of their colour to this rainbow of a book.
I recommend it to anyone looking for a book on friendship, soul-searching or even a light-hearted read with a cup of coffee. If you have read it, please let me know in the comments what you thought of this book and your review of it!
