UFC Fight Night 114 Athlete Outfitting pay: Program payout total passes $14 million

MEXICO CITY – Fighters from Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 114 event took home UFC Athlete Outfitting pay, a program that launched after the UFC’s deal with Reebok, totaling $117,500.

UFC Fight Night 114 took place at Mexico City Arena in Mexico. The card aired on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

Leading the way was former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans (19-7-1 MMA, 14-7-1 UFC), who suffered a split-decision loss to Sam Alvey (31-9 MMA, 8-4 UFC) on the main card. “Suga” received $20,000 for his 22nd octagon appearance, the highest non-title payout possible.

Under the UFC Athlete Outfitting program’s payout tiers, which appropriate the money generated by Reebok’s multi-year sponsorship with the UFC, fighters are paid based on their total number of UFC bouts, as well as Zuffa-era WEC fights (January 2007 and later) and Zuffa-era Strikeforce bouts (April 2011 and later). Fighters with 1-5 bouts receive $2,500 per appearance; 6-10 bouts get $5,000; 11-15 bouts earn $10,000; 16-20 bouts pocket $15,000; and 21 bouts and more get $20,000. Additionally, champions earn $40,000 while title challengers get $30,000.

In addition to experience-based pay, UFC fighters will receive in perpetuity royalty payments amounting to 20-30 percent of any UFC merchandise sold that bears their likeness, according to officials.

Bones Bullies Crymier

Last Saturday July 29, the rematch we have all been dying to see since UFC 200 finally came to be. In a fight that would determine who was the real Negan of a division that had become zombified after Jones’s nearly apocalyptic self destruction. D.C. Put up a hell of a fight. For three rounds He used his grinder type fighting style to stay in Jon’s face and rip him up in the pocket any chance he could get. Hitting Bones with hard short hooks and necktie uppercuts. A strategy that was starting to pay off when it made Jon have to continually tie D.C. up so he could recover from the powerful shots. But the risk was not worth the reward this time, as Jones repeatedly made Cormier pay the toll to get in that pocket. A fair that was paid for by well placed jabs, vicious thigh kicks, and a perfectly timed head kick delivered by Jon’s deceiving powerful cricket legs. After that thunderous kick the rest of the storm followed suit as jones rained down vicious elbows when he finally got D.C. to the ground, vicious enough to get the stoppage from the ref with the Odin style mustache. ( that might not have been the actual ref but that guys mustache was so sick I can’t get it out of my head, he should ref all fights from now on, or the UFC should just make that mustache style mandatory for all refs) After D.C.’s first KO loss we were treated to a feast of emotional awkwardness as we all watched our favorite bald commentator Joe Rogan interview a sobbing 205 pound Cormier and ask him “what happened?” It was bad, I don’t think there was one person watching that interview who didn’t fell sorry for D.C. I could barely look at the screen, it was just to hard to see such an amazing fighter turn into a huge pity party. I don’t know if D.C.’s ego will ever recover from this loss, I imagine it’s hard losing to your arch nemesis just one time let alone twice. But we all know that D.C. has major heart and if anyone can come back from such a hard loss it’s AKA’s tough team captain.
