“Anti-choicers like to pose hypotheticals about the remarkable baby a woman could have if she just didn’t get an abortion: What if they cured cancer? None ask if that woman herself might change the world. They never consider that we could be the remarkable ones, if only given the chance. The lives and experiences abortions create, though, don’t have to be extraordinary to matter. I think less about the books I’ve written because of my abortion, and more about how without it, Layla’s best friend never would have met her. Or how the dogs lucky enough to be walked on my block wouldn’t have a lanky blonde girl running up to give them pets and compliments. I think about my husband, and how he would have moved back to California had we never met, and how sad that would be for New York. The truth is that all abortions create something. Paths forward, lives lived, connections made. Some are hard, some are beautiful—but all are chosen. And that’s what we can’t afford to lose.”

When I was feeding my 1 year old daughter, my mom was over and says "You're going to have to wipe off her face when she's done". I acted totally surprised and then smacked my forehead and replied "damnit I knew I've been doing this wrong!! When she's done I just leave her with the food all over her face and toss her into the crib for the rest of the day"
My mother was not amused but like what else was she expecting

seriously I had some little TikTok teenybopper burst out laughing on my tour because I said that a historical figure was “most likely what we’d now call gay”
like
listen
you’re free to take a ouija board out to the cemetery and try to explain the dizzying array of current queer terms and get a solid answer as to how he identifies within that framework but
until then, I’m going to continue NOT definitively assigning someone identity terms they didn’t self-identify with, and might not have even known, when I’m responsible for representing them faithfully and they’re not here to correct me. even more so when they’re part of my own community
I mean, you know, as long as that’s okay with you. Bestie.

Still thinking about how activists kayaked up to Joe Manchin’s houseboat to demand he support the budget reconciliation bill as he looked down upon them with the view that we “should not turn into an entitlement society.”

If you are looking for a dog/know someone looking for a dog in or around New Jersey PLEASE READ!
Tumblr media
This is Huckleberry, he is currently up for adoption at the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge. He is such a sweet boy, but he needs someone who's patient and willing to put in the training and TLC needed to make him the best dog he can be. He's about 6 years old, 51lbs (although he's gotten a little chubby since they first found him), and a mixed breed of some kind — we're not sure what. He was living outside on his own for over two years before he was caught and brought to the shelter. However, he's housebroken and will bark/whine to go outside, someone had clearly taught him basic commands, and when he was found he was wearing a collar that he had grown too big for and was already neutered. Huckleberry remembers being in a home, and I want him to have a home again.
He's unsure of strangers at first, but he warms up so fast, especially when you give him treats! He is not approved to be in a home with children or cats, but he does great with other dogs. He's considered a flight risk, so precautions would have to be taken when first bringing him home (some potential precautions in the home would be putting up a gate between living areas and the front door, or even crating him when you plan on leaving the house). Huckleberry does not like to be left outside alone, he likes to be around his people, and should absolutely not be left outside without supervision because he is a flight risk. At the shelter he is walked with a regular leash attached to his martingale collar as well as a slip leash as an extra layer of protection. He is afraid of loud noises, but feels much safer once he's secure inside, he doesn't even seem to mind thunder if he's inside!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is going to be a project, but I do 100% believe that in the right home with the right care, he can be a truly amazing dog. He's a laid back, low energy dog (although he goes crazy for booty scritches if you get right above the base of his tail!). Despite his dislike of being outside alone, he does enjoy being walked, I personally think he'd be a great hiking partner!

So please, if you're looking to give a sweet boy a forever home, fill out an application here.

“Hey, um,” he says, obviously trying to hide some urgency, “can I ask you for kind of a weird favor?”
I’m standing behind the Flamingo Rampant book table at this trans conference, in Seattle, where I have been standing for two days. I’ve been visiting with friends, greeting acquaintances, and talking to parent after parent after anxious parent of trans and nonbinary kids looking for reflections of themselves. I’m a little tired and a little hoarse, a little dry-mouthed and a little hungry, and I feel, standing here, like I have been in service all day but also I like this young fellow and I love to be helpful, so I nod: yes.
He pours it out: “We’re doing top surgery show and tell across the hall. It’s pretty packed, but everyone who came to show their results is, like, me-sized. But a bunch of the guys who are looking to check out results are more… you-sized. So I was wondering, if I watched the books and all for a few minutes, could you maybe…”
“Go in there and be fat?” I ask.
He laughs nervously, all 5'5" and 115 pounds of himself, compact and sleek as an otter, and nods. “Basically.”
And so I do.

These are both my kids (my hand in the pic). I'm definitely not one to jump on the "oh its magic" bandwagon but the little one is probably a changeling or a goblin. Shes obsessed with being outside, like when she was a baby wed have to stand outside even in the pouring rain to get her to stop crying. She makes things appear almost out of thin air. Books will be missing for ages and well look everywhere, I'll order a new one and produces the original. She eats lemon peels, banana peels, rocks. She hates anything like animatronic (like Christmas and Halloween figurines that move or sing). She also makes us all sit in the dark with the windows open when its raining so we can all listen to the rain sounds and she'll whisper "rain sounds" every few minutes.
My mom heard my sister (2yr old) chewing on something while hiding in the corner of her room, like audibly crunching.
My mom goes over and asks her what she's eating, she just stops chewing and looks blankly at her. My mom's thinking the kid somehow found some old food somewhere and puts out her hand and says "can you give me whatever you're eating?"
And then my sister spat out this rock.
Tumblr media
I've said it before but the kids definitely one of the fae.
