Inktober Day 19 “Scorched”

Some of you may know I dabble in woodburning (hi fam). One of the forms I absolutely love is a type of way to preserve wood called shou sugi ban or yakisugi. The wood is finished using fire to preserve it as a sealer alternative. I knew I was going to try to do a texture for this prompt when planning out the month but no idea how I'd approach it. This was a personal challenge that I would never have attempted before inktober.

Inktober Day 11 "Cruel" 🕒 

This one was hard to narrow down. I could draw something political, violent, related to food, etc. It clicked when I was stressing about trying to fit a shower in after the kiddo went to bed- he wanted to stay up. I literally have an HOUR each night to do any work for my art biz.

I chose 3 for the hour because that's when my soon to be 4mo old wakes up for his first feeding. I basically nap before and after, then it's time to corral the kids and go to my day job. Dinner, playtime with kids, bedtime, shower, art, and repeat. Mind you, this is along with my amazing husband who juggles the kids with me.

💡 Freehand numbers. I used a bit of string to keep the numbers equidistant and winged it. I didn't have time 😂 to sketch out a circle and measure distance. I used a dip pen. Smudged the 7 when I was positioning the "hands". Maybe I'll archive this later idk.

Inktober Day 10 "flowing" 

Self-portrait! Thanks to prenatal vitamins, my hair is ridiculous. It's crazy thick and is down to my hip when straight. Until I get to a hairdresser, it's flowing mermaid hair right now. 

PS I have RBF all the time now because I'm perpetually exhausted. 😂 I didn't think to smile when I was taking the reference picture for this last night. 💡 A layer of sepia ink, spritzed water, then another layer of squiggly sepia ink lines. I used black ink to fill out my face. I went over with diluted sepia ink in the bits I wasn't happy with. I realized the scale I've been doing these may not be coming across, so I used a dime for comparison. I'm trying not to spend more than 10min on these so they are small.

Inktober Day 9 “Precious” 

My 3yo holding my 3mo. They have a good bond. The older one HAS to help when I do anything with the younger one. When the younger one hears the older, he HAS to be positioned so he can watch him. Laughs at everything the older one does. Positive reinforcement on stuff we tell him not to do, upward battle.
