You know something that is seriously lacking in the Mass Effect universe? Over the shoulder gun sling. Even lightweight guns get heavy after awhile. Those fuckers are a huge help.
Plus the image of Commander Shepard dual wielding assault rifles with the slings is so hot I just blacked out a little.

I have a lot of feelings about how Ashley is so loyal to the Alliance even though they treat her and her family like a curse. How she needs to prove that she's not her grandfather's legacy.
I think about how the series sets up the Alliance in general as the good guy broadly, but Ashley is a perfect example of one of the many, many ways it is not. The Williams name is a black mark, they're not willing to promote this family when they give all of themselves to the Alliance, but they are more than happy to accept them into their service. They are more than happy to use this loyalty and drive to prove themselves. To use them up until there's nothing left but a body and some dog tags, right?
Sometimes, I also think about the way it must have felt when finally, finally!, Ashley is promoted. She earned it but did it feel tainted somehow? Did she wonder if the only reason was because they kind of had to? Her name was part of the crew that saved the Citadel. If the geth and Reapers had never happened, would she ever have risen that high through the ranks without that association?
And what about during the Citadel coup? She's made a Spectre. She's getting recognition outside of the Alliance. And there's Shepard, standing there with a gun pointed at her, telling her that the man who made her a Spectre has turned traitor. I wonder, did it feel, for just a minute, that Shepard was just trying to make her success mean nothing, stand in the way of her getting anywhere with her career just like the Alliance always had before?
Did she have a punch in the gut moment where she realized that the Alliance, the Council, just saw her as tool. Someone they could use and her loyalty didn't really matter at all? But she's just going to suck it up and do what she has to do what a good soldier does. There's a galaxy to save, and she's going to do whatever is in her power to do to save it.

Shepard and Garrus get into an argument that keeps escalating until they are in a full out fight and the renegade symbol pops up in the corner and if pressed Shepard just screams “WELL WHEN WE HAD THE BOTTLE SHOOTING CONTEST I MISSED ON PURPOSE” and Garrus clutches his chest likes hes been shot
