Born the middle child of three in a tiny town in Michigan, Evander was desperate to escape. He longed for adventure and nature and a break from the dry heat of the desert. His parents were academics who first met in a Greek mythology course and did their best to entertain rambunctious children who were all named after characters they enjoyed. Evander found his happiness in nature. He took up rock climbing as a preteen and even competed in a handful of competitions. He was never the greatest gym boulderer but he was extremely adept at lead and free solo climbing when out in nature.

As soon as Evander was able, he became an EMT. He eventually transitioned into the Parks Service as a Ranger on the specialty Search and Rescue teams. Evander worked for nearly a decade in various parks until he worked his way through the ranks to Yosemite. He is second in command for the search and rescue team out there but will travel around the country for training exercises.

When the end happened, he barely noticed it. People were still coming to parks unprepared and there were rescues to be made. Always late to the party because he was out in nature, his family would not be surprised. Evander donned his pack loaded with first aid supplies when the roving groups of desperate survivors (and infected) invaded the small paradise the rangers set up. Things weren't blowing over like they hoped and he figured he would take his chances trying to get back to his family.
