The Importance of Minerals in Your Drinking Water
Tumblr media
Minerals are essential for health and many important minerals like magnesium, calcium and potassium are found in tap water. Minerals contribute to strong teeth, bones, healthy skin and hair. They are also very important for the growth and development of the body. When pure water in the form of rainfall lands on the soil, it passes through the earth and gets mineralised with important minerals like calcium, potassium and sodium. However, while these are minerals that are good for health, the water could also get contaminated with substances that are toxic. This is due to pollution and therefore this water becomes unfit for direct consumption.
To remove traces of such harmful chemicals, biodegradable waste and bacteria, we use water purifiers. While water purifiers ensure that we drink only pure water, most RO water purifiers also remove the essential minerals from the water. This is because most minerals have molecules that are larger than water molecules, and when the water is passed through the RO membrane, they get filtered out of the water. RO purification is one of the most efficient methods of purification and according to research, the best water purifiers can remove upto 99% of contaminants. Unfortunately, the minerals also get filtered out.

Eureka Forbes’ Pilot Study - FICCI Research & Analysis Centre
Tumblr media
Air pollution is the second biggest health hazard in India and a recent Lancet report validates this. It states that there has been a 17 percent rise in deaths and disabilities due to diseases caused by air pollution across the country last year, making it the largest environmental health risk. With an aim to gauge the impact of air pollution indoors, Eureka Forbes Limited recently conducted a pilot study, “lung filter test” across regions in Delhi & Gurgaon over a span of four weeks. The study monitored indoor air quality in 11 residences using Eureka Forbes’ Dr. Aeroguard’s special HEPA protection lung filter to showcase for the first-time invisible pollutants present in the indoor air. These lung filter samples were tested and analyzed by FICCI Research & Analysis centre in Delhi.
The findings revealed some hard-hitting facts about air pollution being the biggest issue for most of the households in that region. The concentration levels of the pollutants found on the filters tested were extremely shocking. The study results also demonstrated clearly the different kinds of dangerous air pollutants apart from PM 2.5 that are present indoors like Arsenic, Lead, Nickel, Chromium and Cadmium and their harmful effects on the human body. Apart from increasing levels of air pollution, respondents surveyed were breathing chemical contaminants which are very harmful to health.

This time is undoubtedly exciting and deeply satisfying. Most of us are already planning to host a great housewarming party, and decorating the space to make it our own. It is a long process, and some of us even go to great lengths to replace our existing appliances with new ones. While it may seem like a costly affair, given the fact that you’ve just invested in a new house, it actually makes sense to replace your old appliances and get new ones. Because once you procrastinate upgrading, after a while, the new house starts feeling a lot like the old one, and the good feeling of moving into a new house is short-lived.
Once you’ve decided to upgrade your appliances, the key is to choose which appliances to upgrade first. Nowadays, the number of major appliances present in an average household range anywhere between 7-10. And to upgrade all of them at one go would seem extravagant. Reasons to Keep Your Car Clean, Always
Tumblr media
Most of us car owners can be divided into three categories. The first of which, are the ones who love to drive. No matter what time of the day, or what day of the week, these enthusiasts are always up for a drive, and might also be secretly considering themselves worthy of pulling a drift or two on the racetrack. The second lot, are people who hate driving. Yes, there are people who hate to drive, and yet drive, but they do so only because it is convenient, or economical. The third ones, are people who simply don’t care to belong to either side of the spectrum. They just drive because, well, they just do. But, no matter which of these types do you belong to, we can all agree to one thing—a clean car, turns every drive into an experience, or at least saves one from a bad experience.
Whether you love, hate, or are neutral about driving, you want your car to look good and feel good, both from the outside and inside. Be it giving a lift to your co-worker, dropping your kids at school, going on a trip with friends, etc. How we keep our car, reveals a lot about us. Cleaning a car thoroughly can be challenging. Given that more and more manufacturers are producing cars that compromise on space to increase affordability. The best way to ensure your car is clean, germ-free, and always ready for an unexpected passenger, is to use a car vacuum cleaner. Wet and dry car vacuum cleaners are built for the specific purpose of making the challenging task of cleaning your car easy. In India, removing the dirt and dust from the tiny corners of your car can be extremely frustrating. Majorly due to the levels of humidity that fixate the dust particles to the interiors and upholstery. The best bet to get rid of such stringent particles, is to use Forbes car vacuum cleaners. These products come with a long cord for increased convenience, and are powered through the car’s 12V plug, eliminating the need for external power supply. Forbes vacuum cleaners are lightweight, hence offer great portability. The flexible hosepipe and a multipurpose brush supplied with the vacuum cleaner help in dislodging dust-off areas for easy suction.

How Have Vacuum Cleaners Evolved Over the Last Few Decades?
Tumblr media
It is a known fact that dust is one of the most common particles present in our surroundings. The environment around us is filled with different kinds of dust in different degrees of contamination. Household dust is one of the types commonly found in homes around the world. Although found in low levels, household dust seems harmless at first. But, lately, the increasing levels of pollution and dust in our environment has pushed us towards finding ways to keep our spaces clean. And one such step in this endeavour was the invention of a vacuum cleaner in the first year of the 20th century.
In the 1800s, when the first mechanical sweeper was invented, it had to be manually operated in order to start the cleaning process. These sweepers were bulky, and hence consumed considerable storage space. The smaller ones, however, while being more effective, did not have the longevity expected during that time. Moreover, customers did not really look at this new way of cleaning as a logical choice, and naturally went back to old-fashioned dusting, sweeping, and mopping.
Vacuum cleaners have evolved over time, and have come a long way since they were introduced to the masses. The modern-day vacuum cleaner is much easier to operate, and achieves far better results than its predecessor of the 1800s. The new appliances are portable, and have an improved ability to reach under furniture and vacuum corners, vertical surfaces, and hard-to-reach areas. Apart from this, the vacuumed dust is collected in dust collectors that are either bagged or bagless, and can be later disposed of easily. These vacuum cleaners come with a range of accessories that make cleaning a breeze. Be it a garage, verandah, grills or gates, the accessories make cleaning easy and fun.

5 Clever Ways to Use Your Vacuum Cleaner
There are so many unexplored ways in which you can use your vacuum cleaner to keep your house clean. It’s the festive season and you would want to get your cleaning done before the guests start pouring in. Everyone would want to make a good impression, especially in front of relatives that are sure to visit during the next holiday season.
Get Rid of Carpet Dents
If you wanted to avoid unsightly carpet dents left behind by furniture when you decide to rearrange the furniture. Keep a bowl of ice cubes ready before you shift the furniture to the new spots. Place few ice cubes on the dents and let the ice melt. The water helps the carpet fibres to return to their original upright position. Once done, use your wet and dry vacuum cleaner over the wet spots to bring back the original shape of the carpet. And there, your furniture looks amazing in the new arrangement and the carpet does not give away any evidence of the old arrangement.
Make Your Home Allergen Free
During winter, most households keep windows and doors shut to keep the cold winds out. This automatically makes them dust magnets and you might notice a layer of dust accumulated on the edges. This is especially hard to clean when the crevices are narrow and small. Use your vacuum cleaner’s brush tool and clean these edges before opening the windows so that the dust does not make its way into your house. Once fine dust like this blows into your house, it is very difficult to get rid of it, additionally it can also cause allergies.
Deodorise Cushions and Pillows
Plush cushions and pillows that cannot be washed can acquire an unpleasant smell over time. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil or perfume to your vacuum cleaner’s bag. As you vacuum over the surface of the cushion or the pillow, the scent eventually gets released onto them, this is a great way to ensure your home smells great after cleaning.

How Often Do You Check the Purity of Your Drinking Water?
Tumblr media
A major hurdle in ensuring you consume pure water all the time, is checking the purity of the water. Is the water quality within the health standards? And how do you make sure that it’s not a risk to your health? How do you check the purity of water that you drink every day?
If your answer is a no, then you probably don’t know about the different kinds of harmful impurities that are present in common water sources. In an age where bottled water is readily available, most people tend to forget that purifying the water supplied to their house, is of utmost importance. In such a scenario, a water purifier is a logical choice for purification. A water purifier effectively purifies water and makes it safe to consume.
Let us take a look at the different kinds of technologies used to purify water and which to use based on the kind of water one has access to.
RO Technology
RO is a popular kind of technology when it comes to purifying water for domestic purposes. To understand this process, one has to know about Total Dissolved Salts (TDS). TDS is a measure of the combined content of all inorganic and organic dissolved substances in unfiltered water. These excess dissolved salts tend to give the water a ‘salty’ taste or what is called ‘brackish’ water.
RO water purifiers have a membrane that filters the total dissolved solids and invisible particles like bacteria, etc. In this technology, water is passed at a high pressure through the membrane, which effectively traps the chemicals and microbes and allows filtered water to pass through the fine pores of the membrane. It also reduces the number of minerals and salts, bringing it down to a permissible limit.
RO technology is best-suited for homes with a high-TDS source of water, and water with new-age contaminants like lead, arsenic, etc.

Tips to Get Rid of Dust Mites
Tumblr media
It’s almost impossible to eliminate dust mites using conventional cleaning techniques like dusting, sweeping and swabbing. These insects survive by feeding on sloughed-off human and animal skin. The little insects are hardy and can survive in almost all climates, but thrive in humid and warm climates.
Dust mites can aggravate allergies causing coughing, itching, watery eyes, rashes etc. It is estimated that a single dust mite can produce up to 200 times its own body weight of waste. Breathing in this waste produce causes the body’s immune system to act by producing antibodies against these substances. Long-term exposure to this can result in asthma and sinus problems as well.
Many people remain unaware of the health problems dust mites cause. Here are a few tips to help prevent their infestation in your home.
Allergen-proof fabrics: Beds, curtains and other pieces of fabric that are not changed too often tend to be the preferred breeding place for dust mites. By buying allergen-proof materials that prevent dust mites from getting in is an ideal choice. Fabrics that are tightly woven and have smaller pores are the best kind for reducing dust mite populations at home.
Changing covers regularly: Make sure you change your pillow covers, bed covers and curtains regularly and wash them in hot water at least once a week. Using a hot dryer also helps to get rid of dust mites.
Vacuum cleaning: The deep-cleaning technology with strong suction ensures that there is no dust and dead cell debris left on the fabric, curtains, etc. which makes these surfaces a breeding ground for dust mites. Choose from the best vacuum cleaners in India such as the Euroclean vacuum cleaners range from Eureka Forbes. These vacuum cleaners come with strong suction and other accessories that make cleaning easy.

Things to Consider When Buying a Vacuum Cleaner for Your Car
Tumblr media
Here are some points to consider, when choosing a vacuum cleaner for your car.
Power: There are corded, as well as cordless car vacuums, with high power ratings. Compare the wattage figure, when comparing different prospective car vacuums. The differences in the margins will be the deciding factor, helping you pick one over the other.
Portability: A car vacuum cleaner should ideally be small and light and deliver the required service. The appliance should be designed in such a way that it reaches the nooks and corners of the car easily. The car vacuum cleaner should not weigh too much, so you can carry it to places without any hassles.
Capacity: The dust canister should have a useful capacity. Too small a capacity would require you to empty the canister frequently during operation. The size of the tank dictates how much the appliance can hold, before it needs to be emptied.
Accessories: A car has different surfaces. Carpets, seats and other uneven areas as well as hidden nooks and crevices. The vacuum cleaner you choose should come with a suitable set of accessories and attachments that allow you to clean all the aforementioned surfaces easily. Use a specific tool to vacuum the hard-to-reach places. Choose a vacuum cleaner that helps you to make car-cleaning easy and more efficient.
If you want to make the right decision concerning your car vacuum cleaner, make sure to read more here: Things to Consider When Buying a Vacuum Cleaner for Your Car

Common Water Pollutants and their Effects
In small quantities, these pollutants pose no threat to our health. But with rising levels of pollution today, the contamination has reached alarming levels. Below is a list of the common pollutants that can be found in water today.
Sewage: There are billions of people on the planet, generating massive amounts of waste. Improper disposal of sewage, often dumped untreated into water bodies is the major cause of water pollution today. Untreated sewage can affect the immediate environment around people and also lead to water-borne diseases like cholera and diarrhoea. Untreated sewage also contains considerable amounts of biodegradable organic compounds. This waste undergoes decomposition and consume the dissolved oxygen available in the water body and cause difficulties for aquatic life.
Synthetic Organic Compounds: Synthetic pesticides, fertilisers, detergents, pharmaceuticals are common examples of synthetic compounds polluting water. Most of these compounds are toxic and since they are resistant to degradation, they remain in the water for a long time. When consumed over long periods of time, these chemicals in water can be extremely harmful to the human body. They can cause chemical burns, nausea, convulsions and lead to chronic health disorders. Some of these compounds are carcinogenic as well.

How to Maintain a Water Purifier Efficiently?
Tumblr media
The importance of a water purifier in our lives can never be taken for granted. A water purifier ensures that the water you drink is filtered and free of any physical or organic impurities. Using a combination of different filters and purification technologies, it makes sure that the water you drink is safe and uncontaminated. Hence, it is important to look into the regular maintenance of water purifiers and their filters.
Change the Water Filter
Water Filters bear the brunt of the purification process as they are one of the main components that purify the incoming water by absorbing or eliminating contaminants. To ensure smooth functioning, check the input water quality and set your purification method accordingly. The Water Doctor feature on eurekaforbes.com helps you choose the right water purifier by submitting your pin code, and choosing the type of water supplied to your house. Over time, the contaminants that accumulate reduce the efficiency of your water purifier. This usually results in a reduced flow rate as well as water having a bad odour. If you notice such signs, make sure you change your water filter at the earliest.
Regular Service

Getting your water purifier serviced regularly from the authorised technicians ensures that it gives optimum purification at all times. Moreover, it also gives you peace of mind as the spares used are genuine. As part of in-house maintenance of your water purifier, you should drain out water that has been stored in the tank for more than 48 hours, as it becomes unfit for consumption.

Keep Common Waterborne Diseases Out of Your Home
Tumblr media
During monsoons, a simple glass of water can turn out to be more than just water. Waterborne diseases find their way into homes when drinking water doesn’t go through a rigorous purification process in order to kill all the bacteria and microbes contained within.
In India, there is increased flooding during the monsoon months, and due to overflowing of sewages, the purity of drinking water supplied to our homes comes into question. This leakage and overflow is enough to induce disease-causing bacteria into the drinking water supply.
The most common waterborne disease in India is diarrhoea. It is caused by bacteria, virus and parasites, and causes stomach pain, bloating, weight loss and a high level of physical discomfort. Other waterborne diseases like typhoid, cholera and hepatitis are also caused when pathogenic microorganisms that originate when human and animal waste find their way into water supplies. Keeping waterborne diseases at bay is easy by using a water purifier for your home. Some water purifiers with technologies like Reverse Osmosis (RO), UV, and UF, sense the water source, and purify water to an optimum level.
The process followed by these water purifiers ensures that disease-causing bacteria, as well as harmful salts and unnecessary heavy metals are kept out of the glass of water that you drink. Even hard water is rid of excess TDS (Total Dissolved Salts), and other physical, chemical and microbiological contaminants, thanks to the thorough purification processes of the RO water purifiers.

Why Filtered Water Is Preferred Over Bottled Water
Tumblr media
In our fast-paced lifestyle, the option of drinking water out of a bottle, readily available at every nook and corner, is convenient. However, the truth is that it does you more harm than good.
The universal truth about the environmental follies of using plastic is known to all, but very few know about the kind of problems it could cause to your body. Bottled water contains a chemical called Bisphenol A (BPA) which when exposed to heat might turn to ‘bad oestrogen’ and could result in various types of cancer. And this is just one of the harmful chemicals that laces the inner part of the plastic water bottle. Other chemicals include Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), and Phthalate. (Source: http://www.theworldcounts.com/, https://www.mindbodygreen.com/)
The former is used to make softer plastic water bottles making them easily susceptible to saliva, food residue and other contaminants when reused, and the latter, is used to make the plastic especially polyvinyl chloride (PVC) bottles more flexible. PVC incidentally is known to be the world’s most toxic form of plastic.
This is just the health aspect of the harmful effects of bottled water. There is also the belief that the purity of bottled water is questionable. Not to mention the unnecessary expenditure of buying bottle after bottle instead of sourcing drinking water from a proven and trusted name in water purifiers. That is where Eureka Forbes’ innovative and technologically advanced Water Purification System comes in, to give your family the good health they deserve.

Why Do You Need to Consume Purified Water During the Monsoons?
The rainy season is looked forward to with much anticipation, in every part of India. People yearn for the rains as they bring much-needed relief from the unbearable summer heat. After a heavy downpour, the cities look scrubbed and clean. The monsoons are the perfect time to curl up at home, with your favorite book, and a hot cup of tea.
However, as much as they bring joy, the monsoons also signal the onset of waterborne diseases. Heavy rains cause cities to flood, and this contaminated flood water may mix with the drinking water supply. The rainy season sees an increase in the prevalence of waterborne diseases, caused mainly due to improper water-purification systems. The rains might spell relief from the sweltering heat, but they also signal the onset of bacterial and viral infections that can cause considerable discomfort. The list of waterborne diseases is extensive, but the most harmful are typhoid, diarrhoea and jaundice. During the monsoons, the rain does cause temporary relief, but humidity comes back post the showers, and causes major health concerns. One of them being dehydration, which makes the body lose essential minerals through sweat.
Waterborne diseases are spread primarily through contaminated water. A person falls sick by direct consumption of polluted water, or using it for cooking. Eating food cooked with contaminated water can lead to severe stomach infections.
It is imperative to keep water pure during the monsoons. Installing a good water purifier can significantly reduce the risk of waterborne diseases. Modern water purifiers employ a range of advanced technologies, to ensure that all impurities and particulate matter are removed from the drinking water, thus ensuring safe, clean and healthy drinking water for you and your family. Equipped with RO, UV, and UF technology, these purifiers sense the water source, and purify the water to an optimum level. Separating salts and heavy metals, and getting rid of organic impurities, pesticides, VOC and bacteria, virus and other disease-causing organisms, these purifiers improve the taste of the water as well.

Tips on How to Use a Vacuum Cleaner Safely
While buying is just the beginning, it’s the maintenance and handling of the vacuum cleaner that ensures consistent output and a longer life. Here are a few tips on how you can safely use your vacuum cleaner:
Don’t pick hard or sharp objects: Too lazy to pick that paperclip from the floor? Or that coin maybe? Well, think again before you vacuum over it. Never clean hard or sharp objects as they clog the nozzle or hose, and can even damage the fan blades of your vacuum cleaner.
Plugging/Unplugging: Unplugging your vacuum cleaner by pulling the cord from the wall socket hastily, is a big no-no. Doing so will result in the cord getting cut or damaged completely.
Regular checks: A little caution goes a long way in increasing the life of your vacuum cleaner. Take a few minutes to check your vacuum cleaner from time to time; be it checking and replacing the filters, or emptying the dirt bag..
