I don't usually do selfies...but tonight was Ash Wednesday service and I received ashes from a brother in Christ, Rev. Patrick Murphy...in two weeks, he is graciously going to allow me to preach for him at 8:45am in the Aldersgate Service at Front Street UMC in Burlington. I have been wrestling with the word I have been challenged to give. The text is the Letter to Philemon. The thrust is a call to turn our kindness into self-reflection and repentance and that repentance into direct action against racism and injustice. This Word is not safe at all. It brings me back to this season of Lent. This is the season of repentance and restoration...echoing the work of Christ on the Cross and his Resurrection.
