I’ve always had a headcanon that Erik doesn’t make much eye contact, even during conversation. He tends to stare off to the side or focus on his shoes.

But now I have a headcanon of where this spawns from. As a child, Erik’s mother didn’t just hate him- she couldn’t stomach the sight of him. She didn’t allow him to make eye contact with her, and if he did she’d smack him so hard he’d go flying to the floor. And one time, she even locked him in a dark cellar for a week after having a breakdown over the way his eyes pierced her.

So now as an adult, Erik avoids eye contact. Not only because it’s a habit from childhood, but also because he knows that his eyes are intimidating.

Any time he does make intense eye contact with someone, he’s probably trying to scare them.

Erik: I like everything about you. Just the other day someone asked me who I thought the most beautiful was in all of Paris. You know what I said? 

Christine Daaè: What did you say? 

Erik: I said...
