The Magic Treehouse shaped my childhood. I would hole myself up in the local library, finding a nook between the shelves, and would read a pile of those books I pulled off the shells out of order
One of my clearest memories of my childhood was watching a Magic Treehouse themed planetarium show, and even though I've read the book it was based on dozens of times, I was in awe of the technology and it help foster a lifelong interest in history and science museums.
Jack and Annie are why I'm studying history and want to go into museum education in the future. Jack and Annie shaped my life. Even now, I still have my favorite Magic Treehouse books on my bookshelf, right next to my archaeology manuals and history textbooks.
All that being said. VOTE FOR CAVENDISH AND DAKOTA GAY RIGHTS 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈👬👬👬🌈🌈🌈🌈

While you're correct abt a couple of them (especially war of 1812, that was a messy ploy from the british to regain the Champlain trade routes) this is an incredibly reductive way of looking at war and the conflicts that cause war?
This is a list of major wars, so doesn't include wars with Native Americans or the bullshit USAmerica did in Latin America (I understand why theyre not here but when you make the wild claim that "tHe uS dOeSnT sTaRt fIghTs jUsT eNds ThEm" you can't just...leave out all of those times the US has started fights with or in other nations to gain power) and even in this list way more than just two have "maybe/kind of" been started, at least in part, due to the US wanting to expand its power and influence. (And idk why the Civil War is even on this list when discussing the US being viewed as a "warmongering" nation that attacks others?)
Again this is an incredibly reductive way of thinking about war, especially complex conflicts like the Spanish American War (the ship was not sunk by the Spanish but it was large public opinion that they did, the US were only "helping" Cuba with independence so they could take advantage, etc) or the Vietnam or Korean War (sending aid to the side that you agree with politically is not "staying out of it" like you said) you can't just say "the us has not picked fights to gain power and only defends themselves when they're attacked" bc that's rlly not how war works.
Weird Screams About History
The United States of America. It’s been at war for roughly 92% of its existence. So obviously the United States of America is a warmongering nation that attacks other for power, right?
Well, no.

baffling how many of those “archaeologists were too stupid/pretentious/whatever to ask Average People what artifacts did!!!!” posts circulate considering. they did. that’s how you know what the artifacts did. you think you’re on the front lines of science? you didn’t even spell archaeology right

submit YOUR favorite extinct prehistoric animals and we’ll have these poor dead fuckers battle it out amongst each other in a series of polls
RULES:
MUST be extinct- savvy creatures who are still alive, like the coelacanth and my beloved horseshoe crab, are not eligible here
this animal must have existed and gone extinct BEFORE recorded history. the thylacine, the moa, stellar’s sea cow, these animals are all very dear but they are not eligible here. for simplicity’s sake i’m using a working definition of the end of the last glacial maximum, but I’m just a guy who likes bones and if you know a better way to do it I’m all ears
you don’t have to be a student or scholar to participate in any of this, i just ask that you know basic information about both animals before you vote
i’m too lazy to make an entire google form so you can just drop a species name in the comments. i’ll do all the research myself i love research. send as many paleoblorbos as you want, bonus points if you have a funny line to go with any of them
you can send basic bitches like the stegosaurus or the wooly mammoth but if i think your paleoblorbo is too well known I’m not adding ‘em, i don’t want them to sweep the lesser known animals simply on basis of recognition
even if you don’t have any paleoblorbos yourself please reblog to help this reach people who do

Thomas Jefferson was such a wuss man....the moment he came to any sort of conclusion that would radically change his worldview or like inconvenience him in any way he chickened out. “The ‘lost civilizations’ I discovered in my plantations were never lost. Those modern natives are direct descendants of those civilizations and continued their practices” “So....that land you ‘own’ belongs to them?” “Pffft no fuck you”
