Entry 7
To speak upon my learnings and experiences during this subject, I gained a large amount of knowledge during the guest speakers, as they passed down their knowledge onto us and told us about their journey and stories post-graduation entering the sports media/sports business industry. They gave us pointers as to what employers are looking for in their interns such as their work ethic, how to succeed in their application process, how to speak and answer questions during interviews, and more helpful knowledge and tips. The guest speakers also helped me understand the exact pathway and area I want to work in which I take into consideration when carefully reading internship offers.
I learnt a lot when it comes to resume and cover letter writing, what to include and what not to, the right language to use, how to layout your documents, etc. The practice interviews also helped me immensely to fully comprehend how it will look in the real industry world. The student/peer interviews helped although the main interview that helped me personally was the A3 assignment interview. The interviewer Jess and my teacher Davin gave me insightful feedback about my interview. To elaborate in detail, they described how I had great answers for the ‘what does teamwork mean to you’ question, as I answered with ‘I believe teamwork is all about helping and supporting one another, being able to unite and grow together with uplifting energy will help the entire team prosper and succeed’. The interviewer’s Jess and Davin liked that answer based on the strong words and language I used.
To explain the mistakes I made during the interview, one that stood out and helped me immensely includes when they asked me a question along the lines of; ‘do you have an experience where something went wrong in the workplace or any other environment where you took a step forward and lead in the right direction’. I then described an instance where a group assignment involved the use of gaining connections with a NBL1 team to create content for them, we weren’t communicating on time so they weren’t responding back to us in time to capture the content, so I took the lead and use a connection I made when I volunteered for the Melbourne United games back during my highschool and TAFE course which helped us regain connection. After this, the feedback I got from Davin made me remember how I also went to interview Andrew Gaze alone, which I forgot to mention in my answer. He described to me how I should definitely add that information into the interview to demonstrate my initiative skills. Their advice helped me immensely and I will definitely be taking it upon in terms of my career perspective.

Entry 6
During our first round of interview practices, I received good feedback on areas of improvement. A peer was note taking whereas 2 other peers were asking me interview questions. As attached below, in terms of my professional presentation we weren’t prepared for the interview on the day or asked to dress professionally therefore the peer wrote ‘hoodie could be seen as unprofessional’. Although when the teacher told us to dress professionally for practice interviews and for the A3 interview assignment, I ensured I dressed according to standard for the process.
Continuing, as for body language, the peer noted that I need to hold more eye contact, and that I have good posture although I should engage others more when I’m speaking by using my hands. After this note, for the assignment I developed my skills and held eye contact with the interviewer at all times when explaining my answers to give them my full attention and interest.
Lastly, for the language and engagement, my peer said that I ‘spoke freely, sounded knowledgeable’ and that I had ‘great answers’. After hearing this note I still believed I needed to work on my professional language more as I feel like I find it difficult to explain and elaborate on my thoughts and answers. To improve this complication, I practiced answering the main questions that may be involved in an interview and ensured I added professional higher levelled vocabulary.
After the group practice interview, we had 2 other 1 on 1 interviews with different peers over the next two weeks. During the first 1 on 1, we were told to record each other to observe our responses and body language. After watching my personal recording, I could see that my eye contact was at standard, although my responses to the interview question ‘tell me about yourself’ could have had more detail.
Furthermore, the second interview with a different peer involved using different uncommon interview questions just in case it may come up, to ensure we are prepared. I was asked this question; ‘tell me about a time where you had a bad experience with a customer at work, and how you resolved it’. This question had me stuck as I’ve had many experiences to choose from but I was stuck thinking about the best resolution I took in place at the time, so that I can show my problem solving and adaptability skills to potential employers, therefore, I couldn’t think of the right answer, so I took the time after the interview to think of the perfect situation in case the question comes up in future.

An organisation's culture is the set of values, beliefs, and behaviors that are shared by its employees. As well as influencing how things are done at work, it sets the tone for how things are done in the office. Engagement, productivity, and employee satisfaction can be greatly impacted by a positive and strong organisational culture. An organization's culture should align with your values and support your growth to make your work experience more rewarding.
High performance is crucial for interns and team members for several reasons. The first reason is that it shows your commitment and dedication to your work. When you consistently deliver high-quality results, you prove that you can be trusted and relied upon. Credibility is built and can lead to more significant opportunities in the future.
Furthermore, your peers will notice you if you are a high performer. In addition to demonstrating your skills and work ethic, it also provides a showcase for your abilities. If your superiors acknowledge your achievements, you are more likely to receive a promotion or other career advancement opportunity.
Moreover, high-performing interns and team members contribute to the organisation's success. Team dynamics, productivity, and organizational goals can be positively impacted by your contributions. Going above and beyond contributes to both your individual success and the success of the entire team and company.
‘Organisational culture is also implied as the core for innovative activities implemented by the organisation. How does an innovative organization look like? It is where its entrepreneur is enthusiastic and highly convinced to keep on experimenting new ideas’ (Brettel, Chomik, & Flatten, 2015, p.19). Ramayah, T, et., al explains how the use of entrepreneur’s, (to compare in this case will be the internship workers), is important in organisational culture in terms of new and fresh innovate ideas workers can bring to the organisation. Employers are solely focused on finding the right workers that will put in the effort to grow their company and benefit them innovatively.
In conclusion, organisational culture plays a vital role in shaping your work experience, while being a high-performing intern or team member can lead to personal growth, recognition, and contribute to the overall success of the organisation.

As shown in the attached documents below I received peer feedback for my resume and cover letter from 2 different students.
My previous cover letter that I used for peer feedback was for a hotel receptionist position. It included straightforward information where I didn’t elaborate or go into detail about my interest in the role. As one of the peers, (Daniel) stated in his feedback, he described an area of improvement saying ‘name who you are addressing it to’, stating that I did not include the person(s) in charge for employment. I also didn’t add dates, or other important details. This was all included in the recent cover letter I created for a sporting internship application that is attached below.
Daniel also wrote ‘curate it for a sporting job’ and ‘specify your passion for sport, why you’re doing internships’. As the cover letter I showed was for a receptionist customer service job, it wasn’t for the sporting industry therefore he explained as we are focusing on sports media internships, that I should curate a cover letter for the sporting field. Which I then proceeded to do so for the A2 assignment which is attached below.
Another peer, Alice, reviewed my cover letter and gave me advice on what to improve on. She specified that ‘when it comes to applying for our internships make sure to add your reasons and passions for sport’. As explained previously the cover letter was not for a sports-based job which is why she wrote this on the criteria sheet. I then ensured to go into detail about my passion for sport in my internship applications for the A2 assignment in the application questions and cover letters.
When speaking about resume’s a good point Daniel told me to change was to remove my address and date of birth as the information is irrelevant for job positions, which I then proceeded to change. On the pro’s side he noted that it was laid out well, including the headings and an advantage to have qualifications.

‘Building brand value is a strategic and ongoing process that involves various steps. It starts with understanding one's personal brand, defining the unique value proposition, communicating the value effectively, and continuously managing and enhancing the brand value.’ Mclaughlin, (2023).
Personal marketing, branding, and your unique value proposition are all essential when it comes to standing out in today's competitive world. They help you differentiate yourself from others and make a lasting impression. Personal marketing involves promoting yourself and your skills to attract opportunities.
Branding is about creating a consistent image and reputation that represents who you are and what you offer. Whereas, your unique value proposition is what sets you apart from others and highlights the value you bring to the table. ‘Defining your unique value proposition provides a clear and compelling reason for your audience to choose you over others. It forms the core of your personal brand and is a critical component of your brand value.’ Mclaughlin, (2023).
By effectively marketing yourself, building a strong personal brand, and showcasing your unique value, you can enhance your professional opportunities and attract the right people and opportunities.
To speak upon my own brand, the best way I can explain when describing the personal content I create for my social media’s is entertainment, humour, and visually pleasing. I enjoy creating content for many different audiences such as the music industry, the sports industry, dance and other creative subjects, or just funny entertaining vlogs, short clips, etc.
Although, to list my cons, the main areas I want to improve is finding the best way to market myself. I have all the skills, knowledge, and personality that attracts the right people and leaves good impressions, although, I find it difficult putting it on paper, putting it into the right words, putting myself out there in general is what I struggle with. Therefore I want to work on learning how to describe and showcase myself to promote the skills and knowledge I can demonstrate for my future.

Resume’s and cover letter’s are the most important documentation pieces when it comes to applying for jobs. They help showcase your skills, experience, and qualifications for future employers. A well-made resume and cover letter can give you the ability to stand out from other applicants and increase your chances of attaining an interview. They give you the chance to highlight your achievements and elaborate on why you are the perfect fit for the job.
Therefore, to describe the main needs of a resume I will use my own documents as an example.
As shown/attached to this post below, you can see the current status of my resume.
To label the steps, a journal article by Magnusson (2022) will help me detail the requirements.
Firstly, ‘the resume should include all pertinent information on the front page. You will be able to keep this information on one page by carefully organizing the content of the resume and presenting it concisely.’ Magnusson, (2022). As shown in my example, you can see I have fit all the important information such as my work experience, skills, past education, and my qualifications all into one page.
‘Work experience: Include work experience relevant to the position and highlight your strengths.’, ‘For each job entry on the resume, include the name of the company, your title, and the dates of employment.’ Magnusson, (2022). All of my work experience is stated on the left with included descriptions of the skills and departments I’ve worked in during my time there.
‘Education: If the job listing mentions educational qualifications, place your education history before your work history. If not, placement is not important.’ Magnusson, (2022). As ive never applied for jobs that include mentioning educational qualifications, I have kept the education section below work experience.
‘Layout and design: Review the layout to ensure that the appearance is uncluttered and easy to read. The font should be simple and in a readable size. Selectively apply font features (bold, italics, and underlining) to draw attention to important information, but be aware that overusing these features can impede readability.’ To draw attention, and also keep the resume attractive to look at due to the spacing and organisation I have also added coloured fonts to clearly show subtitles and didn’t add large amounts of information. Instead I concluded the descriptions to the main and important aspects for potential employers to read easily and effectively.

Entry 1
I am a highly erudite individual in the sporting field where I’m currently finishing my last year of completion for my bachelor’s degree in Sports Media. I have a high level of experience in many sports as throughout my life I have played Basketball, Gymnastics, Tennis, and Swimming. When specifically speaking about Basketball, I have not only been a player for 8 years, but I have also passed my knowledge down to future generations through coaching and refereeing for the past 5 years. In terms of my work experience, I’ve worked in many different industries gaining knowledge in multiple career paths such as retail, kitchen hand, delivery driving, marketing, videography, basketball coaching as mentioned before, and more.
My main career ambition is to land a job in NBL or NBA working as a social media coordinator where I will create, manage, and edit content for the basketball club’s social media accounts. I’m highly connected to my creative side therefore I love generating interesting, funny, and mesmerising content for my personal accounts as well.
In terms of my study performance the only problem I’ve had is starting assignments earlier, where instead I leave them last minute and stress about getting it done when I’ve had time to plan it out. This year I’m hoping I can stay on top and balance my assignments with my work and hobbies outside of study.
My expectations for this subject and internship is to be able to see the BTS (behind the scenes) in the area focus of the career path I want to take. I’m hoping the internship will teach me all the valuable skills I need for a future job and to add onto my resume for higher chance of landing favourable positions. As for the subject, I hope the subject will teach me how to create a perfect resume and cover letter for potential employers to accept and also teach me the right way to sell myself during a job interview. Lastly, I’m hoping the subject will help me land the right internship for me so that I can network well to directly use connections into the career I want to be apart of.

Week 6- Action Photos
The technical skills shown in the use of action photos involves photography skills and getting the perfect shot considering lighting, framing, adjustment, and making sure there is alignment in the picture. The pictures must be held at the best quality being careful to sudden movements the athlete may do that will in turn create the photo taken blurry. Furthermore, the way in which this media type is beneficial in not only the sporting organisation, but also from a business perspective, is the benefits it gives to the players and the sport. ‘Sports photography is a type of photography that covers every sport and sporting event, capturing the action of a game and behind the scenes of the players. This type of photography helps to promote brands, the players, as well as the sport.’ (Format). These benefits will ultimately bring attention to the sporting organisation when they are distributing high quality photos for their social media, which will in turn gain attraction to their sporting games. From a business perspective, the photographer/photography business will be making revenue from the photos used either from the sporting organisation or their own personal portfolio. This digital media type adds to the fan experience of consuming sport by keeping fans up to date on their social medias with game day information, MVP winners, player statistics, highlights and more.

Week 4- Podcast
Technical skills that was gained when producing a podcast involved learning how to edit audio, adjust sound to be levelled with each recording, adding sound effects and music, and much more. The purpose of sports podcasts in sporting organisations from a business view helps not only the media broadcasting businesses, but also the sporting organisations to put out their insight for their chosen sport. ‘Sports is one of the most in-demand podcasting genres out there – specifically, the 5th most popular in the US (according to Edison Research). (Cue, 2023). Cue stated ‘when we first released Deep Dive, we issued a press release to multiple publications and journalists. Not only did this promote the podcast, but it also promoted the sports industry, and the sport itself to readers outside its own following. Sporting organisations also benefit the athletes involved where they have more of an opportunity to build their own personal brands. ‘The host will have an enhanced opportunity to showcase their area of expertise, earn trust, establish themselves as a leader in their field, and pitch themselves as a household name.’ (Cue). Aside from the sporting organisation benefits, the business organisations receive benefits too by making revenue from the podcasts. ‘In June, ESPN’s podcasts were downloaded 42.7 million times, the eighth month in the last nine with a total of 40 million or more.’ (Bassam, 2020). Lastly, when considering how this media type adds to the fan experience of consuming sport, ‘many successful sports podcasts have a dedicated fan section in the show, where listeners can send in their hot takes from the latest game or ask questions for hosts to answer.’ (Acast, 2022).

Entry 6- PROFF COMM
Knowledge:
What surprised me about the semester on the positive side, was how the assignments truly are all sports based, although negatively, I feel as if most of them, (not all) are mainly ‘journalism’ based and I am not interested in being a writer in the future. I was also surprised on how much communication was a big factor on the course as well. To add on, another surprise was the amount of group assignments there were, and how in every class and subject, the teachers always want us to be in groups for tasks, this was different for me as I am only used to, and comfortable, working independently.
Skills:
A strength I’ve developed is presentation skills, I only ever remember doing one presentation in both high school and my tafe course, although during university they involve many independent and group presentations which I did not expect. Aside from this, I believe my efforts were shown as over time I improved and got better each presentation I did.
Another strength I practiced is organisation skills, I used to be the most unorganised person, although now that you need to take your assignments seriously in university, I’ve learnt how to manage my time and get on top with tasks. This was absorbed by the fact of how uni assignments can pile up rather quickly and the deadlines are always in 2-3 weeks, therefore it is better to do it way earlier rather than later, by trying to finish assignments the night before in a rush.
Attitudes/Behaviours:
In the future I want to be able to ask more questions to the subjects’ teachers so I can further understand the assignments and help with any confusion. I also want to motivate myself to get to the in-person lectures even though it is difficult for me as I live an hour and a half away. This must be done by efficiently managing my time with work and other priorities.
Additionally, I want to broaden my knowledge by reading professional articles in my own time to develop my vocabulary, comprehension, and understanding of the diploma/topics I am currently studying so that my work ethic, and information will improve.

Entry 5- PROFF COMM
So far, I’ve definitely learned new techniques to keep me focused for longer periods of time when doing my assignments, such as small benefits such as managing my time and hobbies to ensure I do my uni work first before “rewarding” myself. I’ve learnt that starting things earlier helps a lot. Potentially, and from now on, I should be researching from multiple sources and including more academical articles to further strengthen my essays/research articles. I’ve identified how important that is and how it can provide me an improved mark. Additionally, I need to further advance my vocabulary, to benefit my writing by using additional professional words, as well as synonyms. I’ve also finally learnt how to reference better and I’m starting to understand ‘in-text-citations’. At this stage of the semester, I’m still not feeling confident about my assignments as there’s still a lot to learn with essay and article writing, although that will be improved over time. The only issue I may sometimes have includes maintaining motivation as I feel that some of my assignments can be improved if I continue to push myself. Since I’m a mid-year student I’m behind most of the students since they started at the beginning of the semester and already have the hang of everything, although it will improve as time goes on.

SOCIAL MEDIA 11- Gatorade: Be Like Mike
Be Like Mike is a campaign that started in 1992 which featured NBA basketball player, Michael Jordan. It all started when in the 90’s “Coke” declined a contract to Jordan. Due to this dispute, Gatorade offered him a $18 million contract which Jordan accepted. Their main message was for “young adults who are dreaming big.” Where at the end Michael Jordan says; “Be Like Mike: Drink Gatorade”. Initially, Gatorade wanted to use a song by Disney where they were imposing for $350,000 for a five-week or a sum of $1 million to give the rights of the song, “I Wan’na Be Like You” from the movie Jungle Book for the commercial. As a result, Bernie Pitzel, a former advertisement executive with Gatorade, “pulled off a miracle that would become the OG song for the first popular sports drink.” That he wrote in a span of a restaurant meal sitting. The ad is currently “worth around $19 billion, 30 years later.”

SOCIAL MEDIA 10- P&G Thank You, Mom
P&G was a campaign that ran during the 2012 Summer Olympics. The idea of the advertisement portrayed Olympic athletes’ celebrations by thanking their parental mothers during the video for their impact and influence. The execution went successfully as “the campaign gained over millions of views on social media platforms.” Specifically, “more than 74 million”. This campaign was effective because they used a personalised approach to touch viewers as many stated they “shed a tear watching the ads”. The P&G campaign was also defined “as one of the best campaigns of the 21st century by the Advertising Age.” The P&G also has a website which includes a feature where viewers can “send a thank you note to their own moms” which is a clever addition to the campaign’s purpose, to connect athletes and their mothers and show appreciation for one of the reasons an athlete wants to succeed in their sport.

SOCIAL MEDIA 8- Pepsi: Change The Game
During the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, Pepsico utilized a successful marketing campaign to establish and boost its popularity. The Pepsi Change The Game campaign includes Ms. Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Kelvin Peitersen, T Dilshan and Harbhajan Singh. Throughout the campaign, the five influencers mentioned show demonstration by 'Youngingistaani,' a cricket player who influences their shots. Dhoni is shown in the video playing the “helicopter shot with a hay cutter” taught by a young man in the ad. Dhoni then performs using a “hay cutter” and the man gives him a bottle of Pepsi. He then asks Dhoni to practice the shot during a tournament match. The “Change The Game” slogan from the promotional campaign gained a positive influence on the youth as the opportunity was grabbed by the company at an effective time period since the “ICC World cup is held once in four years and is long-awaited worldwide by sports enthusiasts”.

A memorable sports marketing campaign by Under Armour titled 'Rule Yourself' launched in 2015.
