"Flipping Language Learning: Screen Videos and the Flipped Classroom"
Explore the transformative power of the flipped classroom model in language learning. This innovative approach shifts traditional teaching by having students review instructional materials, often presented through screen videos, before class. This allows for personalized learning, increased engagement, and collaborative in-person sessions. I focused on explaining the differences between "say," "tell," "speak," and "talk" using screen videos, highlighting the benefits of visual and auditory learning, repetition, and accessibility. Embrace the flipped classroom model to create a dynamic and effective language learning experience.

Reflecting on a Transformative Semester: Current Issues in Teaching
Hey friends!
As we wrap up this term, I can't help but reflect on the incredible journey through the "Current Issues in Teaching" course. As an English Language Teaching (ELT) student, this semester has been nothing short of transformative, especially with the eye-opening "AR/VR Material" preparation assignment.
Initially, diving into technology was a challenge, but mastering AR/VR tools proved to be a game-changer. The effort invested in learning these tools was significant, but the rewards were enormous. I found myself teaching more effectively and seamlessly incorporating technology into my lessons. The course not only improved my technical proficiency but also ignited a newfound creativity that I believe will make me a more effective teacher in the future.
Looking back, my advice to upcoming students is simple: embrace the technology you encounter. It may take some effort to understand the tools, but the benefits are worth it. Approach the learning process with enthusiasm and patience, and you'll discover a world of opportunities for growth and innovation.
The customized assignments, especially the freedom to research issues independently, added an extra layer of engagement to the course. "Current Issues in Teaching" not only prepares teachers for the digital age but also fosters a desire for innovation in education.
Teaming up with classmates like Şule Demir and Murat Berkay Bozkurt made the journey even more memorable. The Flipped Classroom Approach task, in particular, turned into a fun adventure filled with laughter and shared ideas. While the corpus-based task presented challenges, it proved to be instructive, highlighting that tough moments often bring valuable lessons.
A shoutout to our fantastic teacher for providing clear guidance on navigating tech tools. However, the workload, while not necessarily a bad thing, did get overwhelming at times. Managing tasks from multiple classes felt like a juggling act, but the experience taught me the importance of embracing each task with enthusiasm and seeking collaboration whenever possible.
In conclusion, "Current Issues in Teaching" has been a catalyst for my professional development. Embracing technology is not just a necessity; it's an opportunity for educators to evolve and inspire. As I close this chapter, I carry forward valuable skills and experiences that will undoubtedly shape my journey in the dynamic world of tech education.
Wishing everyone a fantastic break and looking forward to what the future holds!

Revolutionizing Education: Integrating AR/VR into Istanbul's History Curriculum
Hello Readers,
In a dynamic collaboration with my task partners, Şule Demir and Murat Berkay Bozkurt, we embarked on an exciting journey to revolutionize education through the integration of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) into our teaching materials.
Our project centered around exploring Istanbul's rich history, focusing on iconic landmarks like Hagia Sophia, Galata Tower, Fatih Sultan Mehmet, and the Archaeological Museum. The foundation of our approach lay in the innovative use of QR codes, strategically placed within the material to serve as gateways to an immersive experience.
Initially, our material, designed with Canva, showcased historical information and questions related to these landmarks. However, the magic happened when we introduced AR/VR elements, elevating the learning experience to new heights. QR codes became the portals through which students could virtually explore the areas surrounding these historical gems.
The advantages of integrating AR/VR into teaching materials are evident. Engagement levels soared as students found themselves immersed in the rich history and culture of Istanbul. The seamless blending of traditional teaching methods with cutting-edge technology not only enhanced engagement but also provided a unique and interactive learning experience.
Our collaborative effort showcased the power of technology and design, bringing history to life with an additional layer of involvement. Canva's user-friendly platform facilitated the creative process, while AR/VR technologies added a dynamic dimension to our educational material.
Language instruction, traditionally approached, was redefined by the infusion of AR/VR technologies. The ability to virtually experience historical places transcended standard education, offering students a lively and unforgettable learning environment. The combination of design tools and immersive technologies proved invaluable in making the past vividly present, fostering a more engaging and impactful learning experience.
We invite you to explore our AR/VR materials.

Corpus-based Learning
Hello again, dear readers!
In today's collaboration with my fellow blogger Şule (check out her blog here), we've crafted a handy worksheet focused on the tricky duo: "lose" and "loose."
Designed for middle to high school students and ESL learners, our worksheet aims to clear up the confusion between these commonly mixed-up words. By emphasizing correct usage in both writing and speech, we're honing in on grammar and vocabulary skills to boost precision in language.
Through activities like definitions, fill-in-the-blanks, and context-based exercises, students will not only grasp the difference between "lose" (suffering a loss) and "loose" (not securely kept) but also apply this knowledge in real-world situations. The endgame? Empowering students to build clear sentences and communicate effectively.
Yet, as with any teaching tool, challenges may arise during implementation. Some students might struggle to apply theory to real-life situations, requiring extra guidance. Differences in linguistic abilities within the class could create inequalities in understanding. Instructors play a vital role in addressing these issues by providing tailored feedback and emphasizing the importance of precise language use.
Considering the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of students, educators need to be aware of potential challenges stemming from variations in prior language exposure. Regular assessments and open communication can help make prompt adjustments to the worksheet for optimal learning outcomes.
In essence, while our worksheet is a powerful tool for language improvement, its effectiveness depends on addressing the unique needs and challenges of the classroom. So, here's to navigating the exciting world of language education! Keep an eye out for more content, and be sure to explore Şule's blog for additional insights.
Happy learning!

Good Bye
Hello! We have come to the end of a term and I want to tell you about my experiences during this term. In general, it was a term when I had a lot of fun and information. It's fun to experience these tools from a student's point of view. I think that I have generally acquired the requirements of learning in the 21st century.
If I have to look at the activities we have, I can say the following: Blogging was not something for me. Nevertheless, it was satisfying for me to come up with such a product. It is a method that I would definitely ask my students to use. Because in order to write a blog post, you really need to understand the topic. Wiki assignment was simple and fun. The fact that such assignments are group work both speeds up and facilitates the process. It is a method that I will ask my students to use either. The Web-based Project was quite boring, but it was a really educational activity. Because we had to do research, and we learned a lot of things that we could use on websites, such as embedding. And podcasting... That's REALLY been the activity I've enjoyed the most. It was very exciting to interview other people, let alone work in a group. I also learned a lot about podcasting, editing and publishing because it is a topic that I am interested in. Since I have learned these things by researching them myself, I think that the information will be permanent. We have prepared a PSA for the Digital Storytelling activity. This is my favorite of the products we have created. We chose our topic really carefully. Because we wanted to prepare an informative PSA in the field of health. While doing research and editing, we learned many things that we didn't know. But podcasting and making PSA are not activities that I will make my students do. Because it is a complex and long process to learn a subject. Finally, Creating a Digital Poster was a very easy and instructive activity. It is an enjoyable activity that I can make my students do, which leads them to do research.
See you next year!

Creating a Digital Poster
Hello to everyone!
Today I'm going to tell you things about creating a digital poster. I did this study alone, unlike other studies. First of all, I decided what the topic would be and decided that I wanted to make a health magazine. Then I looked at similar magazines and did research on the topics to get an idea. Then I started to make my design. Of course, I used Canva to prepare my digital poster :). I chose the image from Canva's own library. It was a bit difficult for me to choose the places, fonts and colors of the texts. After finishing my digital poster, I took the ideas of my friends and made some edits. It's been pretty boring for me.
Let's interpret this type of work! I think that creating a digital poster is a kind of assignment that can be given to students. It's quite easy and does not require much effort. They also have sufficient requirements and learning outcomes for studying English. But for students like me and are bad at studies related to visual ability who want an aesthetic understanding, it can be boring. Nevertheless, I think that I will give such assignments to my students in the future.
Here is my health magazine cover!

HPV PSA
Hello to everyone!
Today I'm going to tell you about the HPV PSA that my friends and I did. I did this work with Berkay and Şule. First of all, I must say that we had a LOT of fun. It was not very difficult to decide our PSA topic. We've been getting excited to do PSA for weeks already. First of all, everyone did research on the subject on their own. Then we found a quiet place and met there. It's not always easy to find a quiet place because we have to record our voice, but we got lucky this time. After we met, we prepared the video stream together. Then we recorded our voices and edited the video. We were all very pleased with the product that came out.
Although the research and product creation process is enjoyable from the point of view of a student, I am not sure about giving the same homework to my students. Teenagers can enjoy this process, but it will be very difficult for young learners and a waste of time for adults. It's too complicated a study to learn English. Despite these, I think it will be very useful in terms of being instructive and supportive of group work. For this reason, it can be used for other courses rather than English learning.
Here is our PSA!

PODCASTING
Hello
Today I'm going to tell you a few things about podcasting. We learned how to do podcasting this week. We were going to study with a friend from our class or alone. Şule and I decided to work in a group. (You can check out Şule's blog here.) Vox-pop, one of the podcast genres, attracted our interest. First of all, we thought about what our question should be. Then we started asking people our question. We had to ask questions to at least 10 people. The process has been very fun for both of us. I have learned a lot, especially about editing our podcast and uploading it to related platforms. But I would not want my students to use this method when learning English in the future. It may be useful for teachers to create tools, but it is too complicated process for students.
The question of our podcast is ‘Which of the district of Istanbul do you think is most liveable and why?’. We have talked to 12 people. We have asked everyone to give as short answers as possible. The most given answer has been ’Kadıköy'. I think the reason for it is that the people we are talking to are already living in Kadıköy. The other answers were not repeating each other. The participants have answered according to their needs and demands. The majority of the districts mentioned were the districts where the upper stratum could live and which is nice.
You can listen our podcast on Spotify and Vocaroo

PADLET
Hello everyone again!
Today I will tell you about my Padlet experience. Padlet is a web 2.0 tool that allows you to create collaborative events by creating digital dashboards. We also organized a Padlet page by creating groups of 4 people in our class. We decided to study the issue of climate change in our group with Şule, Berkay and Yağmur.
First of all, we created a KWL chart. 'What we know?' we have listed what we know about climate change under the heading. Then, 'What we want to know?’ we have written three questions we are curious about under the title. After searching the answers to our questions from the Internet, 'What have we learned?’ we sorted it under the heading. So our personal research was finished. As for the group work, first of all, everyone started editing their own posts. Although we have the opportunity to work more individually, we have been careful to work in coalition. We commented on each other's posts and helped each other. Finally, we discussed together about the general layout and design of our page and completed our page.
This is the first time I have worked with someone other than my close friends in this study. I'm getting more and more warmed up to group work every day. My colleagues so far have always been harmonious and hardworking people. With such activities, I have developed one of my 21st century learning skills.

Wikis
Hello, today I will tell you about the Wiki work that I did with my friend Şule in collaboration. First of all, we went to the cinema with Sule. We decided to watch a movie that we had been curious about before. It was really fun spending time with him outside of school!
We met at the library a few days after watching the movie. We had a discussion about the movie we had watched. We started to create our Wiki page with the information we learned in the lesson. We asked for help by calling other friends on issues we couldn't understand. We have Decoupled the tasks between us and completed our Wiki page.
Learning how to create and edit Wiki pages was both fun and informative for me. In today's technologies, using tools such as Wiki and being able to do group work is very necessary for a student. I am sure that learning how to do all this will help me a lot in my student and teaching life.

21st Century Learning
Since the beginning of the 21st century, great progress has been made in the field of education. The term ”Learning in the 21st Century" has become an integral part of educational planning for the future. Educators are actively looking for ways to prepare students for the future, but the needs of the future, and therefore the educational system or methods, are developing at a much faster pace than ever before. As a result of all this, 21st-century skills have emerged. These skills are creativity and innovation critical thinking and problem-solving communication and collaboration information literacy media literacy information and communication technology literacy, flexibility and adaptability, initiative and self-direction, social and cross-cultural skills, productivity, leadership, and responsibility. Education does not consist of listening to what the teacher tells and passively receiving information, as it used to be. Students are constantly required to acquire new knowledge. Then, they need to combine this information with what they already have and be able to solve the current problem. Before giving students competencies such as global citizenship and taking responsibility for important 21st-century skills, it is necessary to model well what these terms are. These competencies, called 21st-century skills, help them not only at school or at work, but also in their daily lives. Students should be encouraged to work together to discover new information, bring it all together, and create a new meaning.
