Minecraft update gothic
Your heartbeat sometimes feels as if it is echoing throughout the world around you. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. It echoes inside your head. You are not the only one who is afraid now.
New things are appearing as if from thin air. You were just in this cave last week were you not? Now it is unrecognizable with sprawling greenery in the dim light of glowing fauna. Is this how things were always supposed to be?
There are cracks in the world's surface, plummeting falls into caverns and ravines much larger than you have ever seen. It's as if the world is splitting apart from under you. Make sure you watch where you step.
The heat of the nether is no longer the worst part about the hellish dimension. There are ruins, clearly a civilization of pigmen once thrived in this realm. You wonder what happened to them.
Speaking of pigmen, before there were only zombie pigmen. Now there are others who will trade gold with you. They tolerate your presence if you follow their ways of donning a piece of gold armor. They avoid the zombie pigmen like the plague. Maybe that should be taken as a warning.
The bastions make you think of the nether fortresses. Sprawling structures full of blazes and wither skeletons. Did the skeletons once have a civilization here too? What made them into the life sucking sentries you know them as? You wonder if it will come for you too one day.
There are ancient ruins in the darkest depths of these new echoing caverns. Clearly a strong and fortified structure is chipping away as bricks crumble from the wear and tear of time. And yet, the candles scattered around the area still burn.
These ruins are covered in what you can only describe as shulk veins. Blocks that have a pulsing to them, nearly like a haunted version of a shulker from the end. These weird creatures also chitter and talk amongst themselves.
Some of these shulks screech. Loud enough to feel your stomach drop, it as if they are trying to call for something, no someone. You do not want to stick around and find out who or what it is they're calling for.
Curiosity is a dangerous thing to follow into the dark unknown. These patches of shulk, with veins covering surfaces like overgrown vines. They pulse like your heart does. Noticeable if you are paying attention to it. You cannot stop paying attention to it.
There is soulsand here. Soil that wails with such agnoy as if you are walking over someone's grave even as they live. If you listen closely enough, the shulks sound like they're in agony too.
The first time it appears you think that this is your end. Crawling out from the earth, a being larger than yourself with a heartbeat that echoes aloud in the cavern far louder than your own. It is looking for you. But in the sudden fear of darkness you cannot see it coming.
It gasps in pain as you do when your arrow ignites it in flames. It haunts your mind far longer than the piercing shrieks of the wither or the shattering sound of a portal being destroyed.
It sounds far too human, even more so than the villagers that populate this world who will trade you emeralds for goods. Maybe you are closer to being it than you are to being a villager. You do not want to stick around these ruined cities to find out.
These shulk patches mirror the rotting skin of zombie pigmen as well as the zoglins, the hoglins that try to follow you out of the nether only to almost wither away in the realm of the overworld.
You can't help but wonder, that in this world where there is no one else exactly like you, what if before there was a civilization of people like you. Where did they go? Or better yet, what did they become?

I really wish Minecraft would add mob variants from Minecraft Earth, like seeing different cow types/colors, breeds etc. would instantly liven up the world. I feel like it’s such an easy way to make the game more immersive.

You need gold, one of the weakest metals in the game, to turn netherite scraps into ingonts. It only takes one ingot to upgrade diamond to netherite. In fact, you can’t make netherite in the traditional way.
Because you have a gold base, it’s more likely that the player coats their diamond tools in a liquid-esque mix of gold and netherite to reinforce them. If you were to make tools using only the netherite ingots, the base would just be reinforced gold, which likely wouldn’t make for good armor on its own.
So if netherite mixed with the worst metal can make diamond that much stronger, then that begs the question
How strong was pure netherite?

Minecraft Piglins fuck me up. Like, they’re one of two/three seemingly sentient species, but there’s clearly something wrong with them.
They’ve got bastions throughout the nether, huge buildings that at one point were clearly lovingly constructed. Not only were these buildings functional (apartment complexes, hoglin stables), but they created art. Not just carvings, but music. Not even villagers have created music discs, only piglins. Piglins also had access to the overworld at some point, they have a number of items (carrots, water bottles, string, iron) that could only have been obtained from the Overworld.
But… something happened. At some point in the past, something happened, and Piglins lost the ability to maintain their buildings. The buildings fell into ruins, and even though the Piglins stayed with the ruins, they couldn’t salvage them. They just wander the broken hallways.
What happened? Well, we don’t know for sure. But… Piglins are afraid of Zombie Piglins. Even though Zombie Piglins won’t attack them, Piglins still try to get away from them. Despite this, Zombie Piglins don’t appear infectious. Piglins don’t even turn into them when they die. Instead, Piglins turn into Zombies when exposed to the Overworld. The Overworld infects them, and unlike Zombie Villagers, there is no cure.
It can’t have always been this way, Piglins would’ve needed to be able to access the Overworld at some point to get materials. But something went wrong. And here you are, exploring the ruins of a society and left wondering what happened. Or maybe more importantly, are you next?
