Happy New Year 2022 !!
This was taken back in 2020, when I just got into FF XIV. You can see my first (and dearest) character.
I joined during the Starlight Celebration event. It is a beautiful time of the year when the main cities of Eorzea are decorated with all kinds of Christmas-themed decorations. This was a time of wonder and an unforgettable experience in the world of Final Fantasy XIV Online.

Game List - PlayStation Vita, PSP, PS1
Below is the list and overview of my games on PS Vita, including the emulation of PSP and PS1.
Completed - finished the story or played enough to consider the game completed. For example, if it’s an action-heavy and not a very story-oriented game, I may or may not play it to the end credits. If it's something without an explicit ending, I'll consider it beaten when I get tired playing it and if the game is very story-driven, I’d need to see the entire story.
Mastered - achieved something that grants a “mastered” status. For example, spent more than 100 hours, played at numerous points of my life, collected all trophies or achievements, et cetera.
Dropped – I tend to avoid dropping games but there might be some which I will want to keep for one reason or another despite having negative views or just not willing to complete them properly. They will have a “Dropped” status.
No status – yet to play or haven’t finished yet but intend to.
Ratings
10 out of 10 - very important to me on a personal level.
9 out of 10 - this game excels at what it's trying to be, impressed me a lot.
8 out of 10 - just a very good game.
7 out of 10 - good, though could have been better.
6 out of 10 - decent experience but I expected a lot more.
All titles digital. PS Vita, PSP, PS1 all played on a homebrewed PS Vita console.

Berserk and the Band of the Hawk Completed, 20+ hours, before 2020, 7/10
Might get a Steam or PS4 version in the future.
Danganronpa 1: Trigger Happy Havoc (PSV) Completed, 15-25 hours, May 2018. Steam - performance, PSV - portable.
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye, Despair (PSV) Completed , 15-25 hours, 2018-2019. Steam - performance, PSV - portable.

Dead or Alive 5 Plus Completed, 10+ hours, 2019 and before 2015. 7/10
In terms of content and overall polish this is better than DoA 6 but I’d say that I still enjoy the 6th entry more for its sleeker style, better character models and additions to the fighting mechanics.
I liked that this has tag-team and some fighters that aren’t present in 6.
Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Venus
Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess
Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention (PSV) PS3 - performance, PSV - portability. Finished, 10-15 hours, 2019-2020, 8/10
Disgaea 3 is my absolute favorite entry in Disgaea franchise. It has the most hilarious characters and moments in the series, the over-the-top tone is taken to extreme and the setting of a demon school is just perfect. This and the first Disgaea are the best, in my opinion.
The PS Vita port isn’t as good as it could have been, they did include all additional content but the audio quality isn’t great and the scale, camera can make it hard to see what’s going on in there screen.
Overall, this is a good way to play this SRPG.
DRAGON QUEST: Builders (PSV) PS4 - performance, PSV - portability. Completed, 43 hours, June 2019.

The Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kiseki Evolution Fan-translated
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (PSV) PS3 - performance, PS Vita - portability.
Completed, 30+ hours, before 2015, 9/10.
Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 both had the bravery to tackle complicated topics of conspiracy, war, geopolitical conflicts in a way that even the more mainstream media (books, movies) rarely do.
The story of both games is quite unique, and not just that - they’re also fantastically directed. Hideous Kojima, the main person behind these works, is known for long cutscenes but what is often forgotten is that while the length is extensive, his cutscenes are usually very nice to watch because of all the different tricks he does to make them more “playable” than a movie would be. This is all on top of just fantastic and easily the best (on PS2, for sure) cutscene direction, cinematography and even voice-acting.
Another thing that’s often forgotten when people talk about Kojima is that his games are incredibly fun to play and offer a variety of play styles. It’s up to you how to tackle the situations at hand, the game offers an immense amount of tools and gadgets and even if you want to play these as a shooter, there is that option.
Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 are monumental games that changed gaming each time a new numbered entry came out. The PS Vita ports are a good way to experience them.
Muramasa Rebirth
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir (PSV) PS4 - performance, PSV - portable.
One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 (PSV) Steam  - performance, PSV - portable and playable (due to bugs on PC). Completed, 10+ hours, 2019-2020, 6/10

The 3rd Birthday Undub, Finished, 10-15 hours, 2019-2020. 7/10
Due to some legal constraints, the third game in the Parasite Eve franchise couldn’t have been titled “Parasite Eve 3”. So, instead developers went with “The 3rd Birthday”.
Parasite Eve is an interesting franchise: the first game still remains one of the very few games which combine two genres: shooters and turn-based JRPG. Then the second game moved away from turn-based fighting. With Parasite Eve 3, the game turned into a full-blown shooter but it actually managed to keep some of the strategy and tactics from the first PE. The story is easily the best element of The 3rd Birthday – it’s complex, requires research and knowledge of the game’s lore and can be as confusing as most games with Tetsuya Nomura in charge. And the shooter mechanics are quite nice, the action rarely gets repetitive and there is plenty of side-content, the levels are nicely designed and have some of the best graphics on PSP.
The 3RD Birthday is a rather sad farewell to Parasite Eve franchise, with a story that puts the main heroine through some awful events and requires some personal investment to get some resolution. That said, the game is one of the most unique titles in Square Enix’s library. Tetsuya Nomura did talk about the potential of remaking the series, so it'll be interesting to see if it ever happens...
Breath of Fire III
Dead or Alive Paradise
Digimon World Re:Digitize Fan-translated. Enhanced 3DS version?
Disgaea (PSP) PSP - portability, Steam - performance and quality.
Disgaea Infinite Finished, under 10 hours, 2020.
Disgaea Infinite is a visual novel with all the characters from Disgaea. The story is more comedic than any other game in the franchise which is a plus – the main reason why I like Disgaea is its comedic tone and over-the-top nature. Many of my favorite characters made an appearance and had some impact on the story.
Gameplay consists of choosing the right response and going through the dialogue and that ended up being a double-edged sword: the choice system adds a lot to the immersion, but it also takes away when you’re stuck. I even tried following a guide and I’d still not be able to progress in some moments.
Overall, Disgaea Infinite is a nice little adventure. It adds more depth to the characters and has some funny moments. Playing this made me wish Disgaea would rework its presentation and storytelling. The main games in the franchise often feel too simple and formulaic with their story, it’d be great if they were to have visual novel type of gameplay similar to what can be seen in Infinite.

ICO was interesting to play. It’s a platformer by Fumiko Ueda, and it has the kind of grim story you’d expect to see in his games. The presentation is great and platforming/puzzle mechanics feel fun. At some point I got stuck on some moment and couldn’t progress, so maybe I will finish the game later.

Fable III (not available on digital platforms, except Xbox Gamepass Ultimate streaming) Completed, 20-30 hours, before 2014. 8/10
Fable III is a one-of-a-kind Western RPG, and not just because of its unique British aesthetics but also because of the gameplay. You can become friends, lovers, foes with any of the NPC in the game, interact with them, get married, live together and more. On top of that, the game has plenty of unique content such as mini-games, its own economy system, choices which affect the story. I think that choices are the core element of RPG games and for some reason (cost of development?) JRPG and Western RPG tend to avoid them, and even companies which used to be the frontrunners of choice in games have moved away or don’t focus on them as much anymore. It’s unfortunate that Fable has such a troubled fate as a franchise and ceased to exist after the third game. Hopefully, the new Fable will not be cancelled and I’m curious to see how it will turn out.
GUILTY GEAR STRIVE
Available on Game Pass in 2023.
Life is Strange True Colors
If like, maybe Tell Me Why or other LiS.
Epic Games Store
NIOH: The Complete Edition (favor PS4 version but keeping EGS for better framerate and graphics)Mastered, 103 hours, 2019. 9/10
One of my first platinum trophies was achieved in Nioh. I liked the game so much that I wanted to get all the trophies and the platinum.
The best thing about Nioh is perhaps the atmosphere. It’s an interesting mix of historical Japan with mythology and supernatural yokai. The bosses and enemies were all impressive in their own right and felt challenging but fair. The skill system adds a lot of depth to the combat and feels rewarding to learn, the game is essentially a constant learning experience.
Another part of Nioh I liked was its story. William is a foreigner in Japan who speaks English while all of the other characters (except villain) are using Japanese. The language barrier feels fresh and as the player, you’re put into the same role as William who learns more about Japan in his journey.
Nioh is one of my favorite games ever made and it almost reaches the level of quality set by the FromSoftware Souls games. Even though Nioh takes a lot of inspiration from Souls, it always feels original and not borrowed like every other Souls-like tends to be.
I’ve played Nioh 2 and found it to be nowhere near as good as Nioh 1: the story was nowhere near as good, fighting felt too overwhelming and overstuffed, built around grind and the gamedesign was way too similar and seems like it did not evolve one bit after Nioh 1. So, Nioh remains my favorite part of the franchise and I see Nioh 2 as the “add-on content” or “post-game”.
Shenmue III
Yoku’s Island Express EGS - performance, Switch - portability. Completed, 2020, 5 hours. 6/10
Yoku’s Island Express is a mix of a platformer and pinball game. In order to progress through the areas, you need to collect enough points and you do that by performing pinball jumps. The visual style is unique, the game has a distinct atmosphere and the pinball inspiration is executed well.
Wii and Wii U
Arc Rise Fantasia
Depending on whether there is a functional control scheme.
Super Mario 3D World (succeeded by Switch remaster) Completed,
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD
Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon Completed, 10-20 hours, 2020. 10/10
Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon is a very unique game about loneliness and life after trauma. It has one of the best atmospheres in games I’ve seen. The game is very important to me personally.
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Would also like Metroid Other M if there’s a config for wiimote
GOG Galaxy (CD Project Red)
Deus Ex
Ghostrunner Completed, 5-10 hours, 2021. 7/10
Gwent: The Witcher Card Game / Gwint: Wiedzminska Gra Karciana Mastered, 300+ hours, 2016. 7/10
I really enjoyed Gwent in its beta/alpha test moments. I spent more than 300 hours just playing it and it was my first computer card game. After the launch on mobiles, I felt like the game was too streamlined and became too similar to Hearthstone in a bad way, as opposed to being a mix of all card games and leaning more towards Yu-Gi-Oh.
Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
No Man’s Sky
Thief Gold, Thief II, Thief: Deadly Shadows
Wiedźmin 1: Edycja Rozszerzona / The Witcher: Enhanced Edition (GOG Galaxy) Mastered, 30+ hours, before 2015. 7/10
The Witcher 1 was one of my first RPG. I’m lucky to have played it after the updates in the “Enhanced Edition” form. And I say “lucky” because CDPR games are known for being buggy on release, which makes me wonder how buggy was The Witcher 1 since it was their first game ever made. In anyway, I liked the atmosphere of TW1, more Slavic lore and mythology compared to TW2 and TW3, more choices and a decent storyline, soundtrack and Polish voice-actors. The only major issue with the game is its combat, of course but it didn’t feel bad to me back when I played the game.
Wiedzmin 2: Zabójcy królów / The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (GOG Galaxy) Mastered, 50+ hours, before 2016. 8/10
The Witcher 2 was a step in the right direction for CDPR – the presentation was much better than the first game, quests were even more carefully written and the system of choices and impact on the story is still one of the best ones I’ve seen in modern games. At some point in the story, depending on your choices, the game will present you with an entirely new chapter, one which cannot be accessed unless you replay the game from the beginning and make a different choice. I wish more RPG were doing that since (for me, at least) choice means “role-play” and indicates that the game is actually an RPG. To this day TW2 remains a very good RPG. In some ways I actually like it more than the third Witcher.
Wiedzmin 3: Dziki Gon / The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt GOTY Edition (GOG Galaxy) Completed, 25+ hours, 2016. 8/10
Even though I like The Witcher 3 less than the second game, I can’t argue against how well the third is made and how much it advanced the franchise forward, earning world-wide success and recognition. It honestly makes me wonder if TW3 was just lucky, being released in a time when nearly every other popular Western RPG franchise was “resting” or had some issues.
Ys Origin
Ys Seven
Ys: the Oath in Felghana
Zwei: The Arges Adventure
Ubisoft Connect (Uplay)
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood Mastered, 50+ hours, before 2014. 8/10
I’ve done absolutely everything there was to do in Brotherhood and loved every second of it. The setting of Rome was brilliant, the gameplay had a lot of depth and variation and the story was enjoyable, even if I wasn’t a fan of the main character.
Assassin’s Creed II May continue, 5-10 hours, before 2014. 7/10
I haven’t played that much of Assassin’s Creed II. The game came out at a time when I couldn’t afford licensed game, so I had to go for a pirated copy… which didn’t work out. At that time Ubisoft had implemented a piracy-protection tool which forces all players to connect to the Internet, otherwise you can’t play the game, and at that time I couldn’t play the game. Many years later I tried playing it and I spent 5-10 hours doing that. It wasn’t as impressive. My guess is that I didn’t like AC II as much because of how much time I spent in AC Brotherhood, so a lot of the innovations and new mechanics brought by the second game didn’t impress me that much. Still, I want to keep it in my library and maybe finish properly one day.
Assassin’s Creed: Unity Dropped, 2016, 5-15 hours. 4/10
This is definitely one of the weakest Assassin’s Creed games ever made. I thought the story and characters were fine, Paris was nicely detailed but everything else was just poorly made. The missions were boring and repetitive, pacing was poor, the AI was dull and the online component were poorly implemented. It was ridiculous seeing yellow-colored assassins not noticed in public but that’s what you’d see in the game. And if that’s not enough, Unity was also a major technical mess on consoles and PC. I’ve decided to keep Unity despite disliking it since I like Paris and the way it is shown in the game.
Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey – Gold Edition Completed, 50+ hours, 2020. 8/10
At first, I was avoiding this game. I’m not exactly sure why I was avoiding it, maybe the Internet’s hate towards any AC game that isn’t about Ezio or Desmond influenced me, I’m not sure… Regardless, eventually I started playing it and after a few hours I started falling in love with AC Odyssey. The world was beautifully made, main heroine was very unique and became one of my favorite female protagonists in games and the new gameplay systems introduced in AC Origins were tuned in to a very good state. Some of the issues I’ve had were: a) unbeatable bosses and the whole thing with level cap. I played after it was all patched but sometimes the balance and the whole mess with “you can’t fight this enemy unless you get to their level” was quite annoying; b) the “present time” storyline with Abstergo was very annoying and I never want to experience it again; c) some of the animations could have been better and the game still didn’t improve the horse riding despite being released 8 years after Red Dead Redemption 1. AC Odyssey has some issues but once you get into the game, a lot of them just don’t matter anymore. And the fantastic main heroine, good story, Greece and the usual charm of Assassin’s Creed bring it up to be one of my favorite AC games.
Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate Mastered, 20-50 hours, 2016. 8/10
I’m hesitant naming my favorite Assassin’s Creed game just because I like both Syndicate and Odyssey that much. I loved the story in Syndicate a lot, I loved exploring London and the gameplay was quite nice, too. AC Syndicate is one of the very few games in which I genuinely wanted to get all of the trophies, just to see every part of the city and do all the missions.
South Park: The Stick of Truth
South Park: The Fractured But Whole
Rockstar Games Launcher
Red Dead Redemption 2 – Special Edition Completed, 72 hours,  2018. 10/10
After the fantastic Red Dead Redemption 1, I thought it was impossible to make a sequel which will be as good. Rockstar Games managed to not only reach the quality of the first game but surpass it on every aspect you can think of. The game is a prequel set some time before the events of RDR 1. It tells the story of a gang in which John Marston (protagonist of the first game) used to be. Story of RDR II manages to show a different side of John Marston and the writers were brave enough to go for a completely different main character… who ended up being more interesting to follow than John (which is something I couldn’t imagine the first time I saw Arthur Morgan in the trailer). Every mission in Red Dead Redemption II is handcrafted, all 70 hours of my playthrough I never felt like I’m doing the same thing and the story is quite lengthy with a great amount of cutscenes, the execution of which can easily rival many of the Western film classics. Red Dead Redemption II is one of the best games ever made.
Max Payne 3 Completed, 10-20 hours, before 2015. 10/10
Absolutely fantastic and one of my favorite games made by Rockstar Games. Perfect combat, bold storytelling, impressive cutscenes, memorable music, technical excellence – Max Payne 3 has everything. MP3 is a noir game but unlike many other noir films and games, it doesn’t just slap black and white color palette. The game takes place in sunny Brazil (and other locations) and manages to create this rich dark atmosphere of noir without using some of the cliché of noir genre. Max Payne 3 is one of my favorite games to date with a story unlike any other.
BattleNET
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 No license, Mastered, 2020, 50+ hours, 8/10
Much like Battlefield 1 is my favorite "grand scale" online shooter, Modern Warfare 2019 is my favorite "smaller scale". The gunplay is very satisfying, the game has a near perfect shooter loop and mechanics that combine the classic "run and gun" of Call of Duty and a more grounded, heavy handling from Battlefield.
The only few things that did bother me while playing Modern Warfare 2019 were the obnoxious hyper-masculine finishing animations, dialogue (I had to turn off the voice-acting to not be annoyed by it) and very tasteless and out of place collaborations (like the one they did with Godzilla, out of all things, or some horror movies).
Overall, Modern Warfare 2019 is worth playing if you can look past its obnoxious hypermasculinity and just pay attention to the gameplay.
Diablo II: Resurrected
Hearthstone Completed, 50+ hours, 2021, 8/10.
Hearthstone is easily the most presentable and easy to learn card game around. Despite being free-to-play, you don't need to spend money on it to have fun, so that is a plus.
The game is set in the World of Warcraft universe, so it carries over all the colorful and interesting characters from WoW. Since WoW isn't very heavy on the story, I actually think Hearthstone has a better narrative than WoW.
Hearthstone may not have the technical quality and depth of Yu-Gi-Oh nor the invetiveness and edge of Gwent but the colorful visuals, laid-back gameplay and a fantastic (for a card game) story make it one of the best digital card games.
Heroes of the Storm Completed, 2020, 15-20 hours. 6/10
Heroes of the Storm has all the unique characters from Blizzard games. RTS and MOBA aren't something I feel interested in at all but I thought the gameplay here is easy to learn and has enough depth, challenge.
Community in HotS is more toxic than you can imagine but it is easy to turn off the chat and all communication for a better experience.
Overwatch Mastered, 50+ hours, 2017-2018. 8/10
Overwatch's biggest strength is that it wasn't afraid to talk about representation in gaming and create characters that would be memorable and inspirational. Not just that, Overwatch plays great and is excellent in almost every way.
I do wish Overwatch would had some story content, though.
World of Warcraft: Classic and Retail Completed, 30+ hours, 2020. 7/10
There's something very immersive and satisfying about just playing World of Warcraft. Though the game is mostly a collection of very small stories, the sound, atmosphere, visuals and the masterful execution make it fun to play even 18 years later since its release (2004).
The game did age, unfortunately, and the lack of a strong narrative really brings it down. WoW has everything to be the epic saga that is Final Fantasy XIV but it seems the developers have no will to attempt that.
With that said, World of Warcraft is an experience and something worth to see. I tend to prefer Classic WoW because it feels more atmospheric but Retail has its good sides, too. Perhaps eventually there will be WoW 2 that combines the strengths of both?

Battlefield 1 Mastered, 170+ hours, 2017-2022. 8/10
Battlefield 1 is one of my favorite first-person shooters focused on multiplayer. I like how the game goes for a more grounded and serious portrayal of war and keeps reminding people that wars aren’t as fun as entertainment and fiction, and veterans’ stories make them out to be – war means death and that is a topic that video games don’t do often. The multiplayer is very well made, and I feel like every weapon is balanced nicely; the game encourages you to assign or follow orders and not just play “deathmatch on a big map”. Speaking of maps, they’re all memorable. Shooting feels right and challenging but not as complicated as previous Battlefield games. I think Battlefield 1 managed to make the right choices in almost every aspect of its gamedesign - the game feels modern, it takes the best things from its main competitor (Call of Duty) while retaining the old Battlefield formula of large-scale conflicts and team-work. The graphics are impressive and each map has its own atmosphere. Absolutely my favorite multiplayer shooter to date.
Battlefield V Mastered, 15+ hours, 2020-2022, 6/10
With Battlefield V, Dice (developers of the game) were trying to make the franchise more profitable and prepare it for extensive monetization that can be seen in Battlefield 2042. Naturally, the quality and quantity were both put on lower priorities. Even though V uses a lot of the programming and ideas from Battlefield 1, it still manages to make the entire experience much less engaging.
Now, I'm not saying Battlefield V isn't fun to play. The maps are still beautiful (though, severely lacking the identity that matches BF1), the 64 player Conquest mode is fun and the weapons, shooting are satisfying. The biggest problem here is that Dice has damaged the dynamic of classes and simply didn't provide enough content.
This could have been a lot better but as it is, BF V is not as bad as BF 2042, so at least there is that. There's some fun to be had here.
Dragon Age II Completed, 20+ hours, before 2015. 7/10
While the game is lacking visual quality, dungeon/map variety, I thought the story was quite good and in many ways to me this is the best Dragon Age out of all three games. Despite its noticeable problems, everything comes together into a satisfying and memorable game with unique and believable characters (something BioWare is so good at) and a true RPG freedom of making decisions, falling in love, making friends or enemies.
Dragon Age Inquisition: GOTY Edition
Fe Completed, 6 hours, December 2019, 7/10
Fe is about a little fluffy creature that tries to understand the world it found itself in. As you explore the home-forest of Fe, you learn more about the terrifying Silent Ones, you'll communicate with the other inhabitants of the forest, run and jump and learn more about their and perhaps our world...
Fe is pretty vague about its story but I think it has a much stronger message than most vague games I've played. The gameplay is a mix of an immersive adventure game and platformer.
My only issue with Fe is that it lacks some polish in giving the player directions and perhaps having gameplay variety. Other than that, it's a cute platformer with a very memorable visual style.
Mass Effect Mastered, more than 50 hours, before 2014. 8/10
There were sci-fi games prior to Mass Effect, there were also RPG games where you could make an impact on the story and there were, of course, plenty of shooters set in space. What makes Mass Effect so monumental is that it wasn't just another game where you shoot aliens for 20 hours and forget it. Mass Effect 1 was the first part of the ME trilogy in which every choice mattered and the adventure was personal and memorable.
Perhaps the biggest strength of Mass Effect is its world-building. Everything makes sense, feels organic and believable. And though the shooting needed refinement it received in the future installments and the main antagonist and conflict scale were somewhat... introductionary, the game is still among the best RPG I can think of.
Mass Effect 2 DLC Bundle Mastered, more than 100 hours, before 2014. 10/10
I’ve completed Mass Effect 2 from start to finish more than 20 times and I felt like each playthrough was mine. There are few games that have attempted to take this
Mass Effect 3 DLC Bundle Completed,  before 2016, 15-20 hours. 8/10
Mass Effect 3 released in the time when Electronic Arts was negatively impacting the developers with demands to add multiplayer, microtransactions and turn games into service. Mass Effect was not the only franchise that got hurt because of that. Dragon Age, Battlefield, Dead Space – these franchises and more had a very hard time adjusting to the new demands of the publisher. As a result, Mass Effect 3 (despite having great talent and potential) turned out nowhere near as good as Mass Effect 2 and nowhere near as passionate and striking as the first one. A lot of the choices made in Mass Effect 1 and 2 don’t end up changing much in the third game, many of the fan-favorite characters are reduced to a small appearance and often make you feel like the decisions you’ve taken were pointless. And on top of that, the pre-DLC story does not provide enough of a closure. Without the DLC, the game doesn’t deserve more than 7 out of 10. Thankfully, the downloadable content sets things right, gives more personal moments for the characters of the first two games and improves the ending as much as possible. The gameplay suffered, too. Similar to Dead Space 3, Mass Effect 3 combat just doesn’t feel as good as it used to in the second installment of each franchise and the online/co-op is intrusive, takes away from the experience especially if you play when the servers aren’t active. Mass Effect 3 had a nearly impossible task – it was supposed to resolve a conflict set up by two games which ideally would take more than one game to explore fully; it was supposed to be better than ME2 which I consider my favorite Western RPG of all time – unfortunately, Bioware could not make the game they wanted to make. That said, Mass Effect 3 still ended up being quite good. The DLC improve the experience and I’m sure if developers had not been forced to do multiplayer and had another year of development, maybe even waiting until PS4/Xbox One generation… then the game would have been perfect.

Game List - Steam
Below is the list and overview of my Steam games.
Completed – finished the story or played enough to consider the game completed. For example, if it’s an action-heavy and not a very story-oriented game, I may or may not play it to the end credits. If it's something without an explicit ending, I'll consider it beaten when I get tired playing it and if the game is very story-driven, I’d need to see the entire story.
Mastered – achieved something that grants a “mastered” status.

Shingeki no Kyojin 2 / Attack on Titan 2  -Final Battle- Completed (original version, Switch), 20+ hours, 2018. 7/10
Attack on Titan 2: The Final Battle includes all content from AoT 1 and 2 which adapted the first and second seasons of the anime, respectively. The Final Battle adds content from the third season and judging by the title, it is the final game in this franchise. I’ve completed the original (not “Final Battle”) version of Attack on Titan 2 game on Switch and enjoyed most of my time with it. Unlike any other Musou, the focus of AoT 2 is shifted from fighting 1000+ enemies to slightly smaller scale of 10-100, maybe more. However, each enemy demands more attention and some strategy. The fighting is still very simplistic but the unique movement system, flying and having to pay attention to environments, different types of enemies make it a much better experience than any other “Musou”. Interestingly, AoT 2 does a much better job at adapting the anime than any other Musou based on some anime or manga. Most of the important story points were carried well, there’s plenty of cutscenes which look very close to the anime. Better yet, the game doesn’t just retell the events of the anime series, it puts you, the player, inside of it and even though the main story doesn’t change by a lot, it still feels a little different. You can deepen your relationships with the characters, learn more about them, et cetera. Attack on Titan 2 barely feels like a Musou game, and that’s a compliment, for better or worse.
Bayonetta Completed, 10 hours, 2019. 10/10

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night May continue, 5 hours, 2020. 7/10
While I’m not a fan of Metroidvania / Castlevania types of games, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was to my liking. I’ve attempted playing Castlevania Symphony of the Night and haven’t gotten far. In some way Symphony of the Night feels like a prototype to Ritual of the Night – the latter is much more detailed, all the mechanics from Symphony just work and the entire experience is much more pleasant and engaging. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a game I would recommend to everyone, whether they like Metroidvania/Castlevania games or not. The only real negative is the story which sadly feels worse than Symphony of the Night. The platforming, action, robust choice of weapons, music and interesting castle to explore – everything realizes the experience that was envisioned in the very first Castlevania game.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare
Chivalry 2
Cyberpunk 2077
Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Completed, 15-25 hours, 2018 or 2019. 7/10
Danganronpa manages to transcend the borders and limitations of the visual novel genre. The budget and scale of the game are very far from an “AAA” experience but clever gamedesign choices, writing make it feel almost as good as the high-budget titles. It’d be best to describe Danganronpa as an interactive anime. The best part of the game is, of course, its characters. Danganronpa is very character-centered with many unforgettable personalities and their stories which are complemented by the unique soundtrack. Danganronpa is far more than just another visual novel.
Danganronpa 2: Goodbyer, Despair Completed, 15-25 hours, 2018-2019. 7/10
Crazier, more unpredictable and more engaging than the first, Danganronpa 2 is a super-charged version continuation of one of the best visual novel games around.
Dark Souls - Remastered May continue, 30+ hours (before 2015 and 2019). 10/10
Dark Souls is a game I’ve played numerous times and still haven’t gotten past the first few areas. It was essentially the first time I felt truly challenged in a game, not by obtuse HP numbers or poor gamedesign, or any other superficial difficulties of most games around.  Dark Souls is unique because it is a constant learning experience in which everything is fair, makes sense but is never easy or difficult… if you pay attention, learn and adapt. Story of Souls is another thing worth mentioning. There are very few cutscenes and most of the storytelling is environmental. Despite the simplicity of this concept, it works flawlessly and provides a much more atmospheric, richer experience than some of the games with one cutscene after another. Dark Souls is a revolution in gaming, and an absolute classic.
Dark Souls III Deluxe Edition Completed, 27 hours, 2018 or 2019. 10/10
After a slightly disappointing Dark Souls II, it was nice to see Miyazaki return to the Souls  and make a final game in this franchise. Dark Souls III managed to become the quintessence of the series, fully realizing and perfecting Souls’ experience of the Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls. Dark Souls III, very much like the rest of the franchise, is one of the best action games and fantasy stories in fiction.

Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition
Deus Ex Human Revolution and Mankind Divided
Human Revolution was one of the most unique games on the 7th generation of consoles. With its interesting and refreshing take on an RPG genre, unique setting and political conflicts that still feel relatable (regardless of the game’s stance on them), topped with gameplay with a lot of variety and choices, HR was one of the best games in its timeframe. I still remember being amazed by its cinematic trailers and music score.
And while HR was that good, Mankind Divided released on the then next-gen consoles (PS4-Xbox) didn’t quite get anywhere at all. Its gameplay loop was largely the same, though with some additions which to me felt overwhelming and simply too much. MD story barely moved anywhere, main character Adam was now unlikable for some reason, one of the main characters left due to conspiracy beliefs and on top of this MD was uneven technologically: its assets looked impressive and so much that the game barely ran on most PC devices... but the animation during and off dialogue was so crude, it hardly looked like a PS3 game. It’s interesting to note that Deus Ex franchise seems to have this fate of having a bad sequel to a game that’s praised as a classic. The original Deus Ex was a classic, then it was followed by Invisible War which was also suffering from crude design... and then many years later DE franchise returned with Human Revolution and Square Enix as a publisher just to be put on hold again with Mankind Divided.
Since Square Enix sold off its Western branch and Deus Ex is now in possesion of another publisher, it’ll be interesting whether this franchise ever comes back again.. and if the “fate” of this series is true, then I guess it’ll be another classic like Deus Ex 1 and Human Revolution?

DOOM (2016) Completed, 10+ hours, 2018. 8/10
DOOM 2016 is a reboot of DOOM series. It takes the best elements of all the previous games, modernizes the visual style and makes it far more impressive (especially compared to the ugly DOOM 3) and improves the gameplay.
DOOM 2016 is the ultimate "old-school" shooter - satisfying action, an actually good story-line which doesn't intervene with the gameplay too much and iconic visuals.

DRAGON QUEST XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition Completed (original version, PS4), 30+ hours, 2018. 10/10
Dragon Quest XI has taught me many great lessons. It helped me to learn how to appreciate games, classical music, how to enjoy turn-based combat and how to be patient. It's a game unlike any other and something that cannot be missed. The addition of a symphonic orchestra option is a change I'm sure many people will appreciate. I personally think that the reason why people did not enjoy the original music was because of the added English voice-acting. Originally Dragon Quest XI came out in Japan without voice-acting. The game's cutscenes are built similar to the way older JRPG played - lots of music, no voice-acting, dialogue boxes. The soundtrack is composed in such a way that really tells its own story and replaces the voice-acting, lets you get absorbed into that world. So, when you add voice-acting on top of it... it's just too much. I personally played DQ XI on PS4 with no voice-acting and I recommend this way of play to everyone. The developers did add Japanese voice-acting after (!) Western release. I feel like they kind of had to do it and go against their vision to not have any confusion as to why English version has voices and Japanese doesn't. So, now there are options if you would prefer to play with voices on (English or Japanese). I strongly recommend to play it without any voice-acting, though. I'd go as far as to say that the game is built in a way similar to silent movies of XX century. Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition is a game I recommend to every single gamer out there. It's an absolute miracle that this game exists! Along with Final Fantasy VII Remake, Kingdom Hearts III, Final Fantasy XIV, Persona 5 - Dragon Quest XI proudly takes the place of one of the best JRPG games of this generation.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Special Edition Mastered, 100+ hours (played on Xbox 360 and PC), before 2015. 10/10
Skyrim was essentially the first RPG I played for hours with no end. I’ve also had the longest “gaming session” in this game – 7 hours with barely any break time. Also, I’ve had a tradition of playing this game on New Year holidays. TES V Skyrim is one of the best RPG ever made.

FINAL FANTASY XII: The Zodiac Age
FINAL FANTASY XIII Completed, 26 hours, 2019. 10/10
My first video game console was technically “Dendy”, a Taiwanese bootleg of SNES. Since post-USSR countries were struggling financially, nobody except very wealthy people could afford an actual SNES, let alone a child from a village. In 2010s Ukraine was in a relatively decent economical state and buying an authentic game console was doable. My first actual console was Xbox 360 Slim. It was homebrewed because I couldn’t really afford games back then… One of the games installed on the system was Final Fantasy XIII. FF XIII was the first Final Fantasy I ever played, and it left a lasting impression, shaped my taste quite a bit. At that time (before 2015), I didn’t understand English well, so I couldn’t progress in the game. I returned to it in 2019 and completed. FF XIII is definitely one of my favorite FF games to date. It evolves the JRPG genre, offers a unique combat which is accessible but deep, beautiful music of some of my favorite composers in gaming (Masashi Hamauzu) and graphics which look impressive even today. The story was essentially a big prologue to Lightning Returns: FF XIII but it was very enjoyable due to all the personal moments and characters.
FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 Dropped, 5 hours, 2020. 4/10
I felt like FF XIII-2 was a mistake when I played it. It took me quite a bit of time to actually make the game work on PC. And even when I did make it work, the game just felt unfinished and broken technically. Regardless of the technical issues, I disliked a lot of the changes made compared to XIII-1. It seems like developers paid attention to the criticism FF XIII received in the West. In my opinion they shouldn’t have listened to anyone and continued the ideas set up by XIII-1. I’ll try to play more later but so far the game has been disappointing.
Lightning Returns: FINAL FANTASY XIII-3
FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Mastered, 350+ hours, December 2019 to March 2020. 10/10
After a troubled 1.0 version of FF XIV, it was difficult to imagine that A Realm Reborn would eventually become the best MMORPG ever made and surpass World of Warcraft. ARR was inspired by the golden days of World of Warcraft, and it is very noticeable (up to Pandaria expansion).
Final Fantasy has an interesting history of development. The first big attempt was Final Fantasy XI, but Square Enix had also tried to implement online features in numerous FF spin-offs with the most noticeable being Crystal Chronicles. And while I’ve heard that FF XI was good when it released, I didn’t enjoy playing it in 2020. Besides, having tried XI after XIV, it seemed to me like XIV took essentially everything that made XI so memorable to people who played it back then.
FF XIV offers a unique world, a lot of different classes and roles to play as. Throughout the years, developers had been tuning the game, adding all kinds of optional content and I think they’ve reached a state of perfection and made as good of an MMORPG as there can be. Now, as for the story… I think XIV deserves the right to be called a mainline FF game. Its story and world often feels like a big Final Fantasy encyclopedia: there’s the medieval parts like in FF V and XII, there’s more sci-fi content like in VII and XIII, there’s a lot of original ideas. Overall, Final Fantasy XIV takes all that makes FF memorable and has something for all fans of the series. The story is engaging to follow, and I’ve been reading all dialogue carefully. My favorite class to play was the miner.
FF XIV is currently the best MMORPG to play, and it earned its right to be considered a mainline Final Fantasy game.

FINAL FANTASY XIV: Stormblood
FINAL FANTASY XIV: Shadowbringers

FINAL FANTASY XV Royal Edition Completed (PS4 version), 20 hours, 2018. 6/10
Final Fantasy XV was the first FF game I played after XIII. Since I finished XIII properly only in 2019, I could also say that XV was technically my favorite FF. Even as a newcomer to the series, I couldn’t help but notice that a whole lot was wrong with the game. Its story didn’t really feel like that “Final Fantasy” title suggests and the entire experience left me with mixed thoughts. What I liked: driving around on the car was fun, graphics looked nice, and the music was memorable. What I disliked: everything else. The story seemed pretentious and all style, no substance; the characters seemed too stereotypical and while I’m not denying the game tried to give them the depth, it just didn’t feel right to me, even then. “Fake” would be the word to describe them. Gameplay was  shallow and easy, lacking impact and reward, skill-focus. Final Fantasy XV had a very troubled development and a change of directors. I wish Tetsuya Nomura would have been able to finalize his vision and bring the game to completion but unfortunately that didn’t happen. As it stands, I consider FF XV to be the worst mainline FF game. It’s not entirely bad and there’s some fun to be had: chocobo races are fun, music is nice, Regalia and the open world is okayish. It’s just not what it should have been, and this disappointment makes the game seem even worse than it is.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance PC, 15-20 hours, before 2015
Played this a couple of time. Though I'm not a massive fan of this game, I think it's an important part of Metal Gear franchise and Platinum Games history, both of which I like. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a game that showcases the strengths and weaknesses of Platinum Games. These developers can (!) be great at making deep, satisfying games which are not like anything else. Now where the problem lies... ? Sometimes they make absolute mistakes (Babylon's Fall), sometimes they focus on extremely niche projects which don't generate much feedback (Wonderful 101, or that bullet hell game, or some of the licensed games they did)... and then sometimes we have things like Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising. So needless to say PG is a developer that's far from consistency and I think MGRR highlights their identity the most. MGRR is actually a game that has had a troubled development cycle. Initially it was supposed to be a lot more focused on the cutting and slicing mechanics but it appears they didn't work out well. Eventually PlatinumGames took over and toned down the novel ideas a bit and instead made something that keeps that novelty and unique ideas, though toned down and grounded to a game that would work on PS3 and Xbox 360. Metal Gear Rising story can be rather annoying to listen to as it takes the goofiness and over-the-top take a little too further, in my opinion. I've never liked 90s movies, after all... Though the gameplay and connections with Metal Gear do justify it. Overall, Metal Gear Rising has its share of problems but I find it to be an important game if you're interested in PG as a developer or of course want to enjoy its combat that still holds up quite well.

Mortal Kombat (2011) Komplete Edition Mastered, 100+ hours, before 2015. 9/10
Along with Ultra Street Fighter IV, this was one of my first fighting games. I played both SF and Mortal Kombat when I was younger but never quite learned how to play them. So, in that way Mortal Kombat 2011 was my first “real” experience of playing a fighting game. There is an unbelievable amount of content, every fighter feels fun to learn and use in battle. The story is far better than any other fg. One of my favorite fighting games of all time. Holds up quite well even after so many years.

Ni No Kuni II: The Revenant Kingdom - Prince's Edition May continue, 9 hours, 2019. 8/10
I enjoyed the story a lot more than the Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. NNK II is not as naïve and seemingly childish as the first, the gameplay is much better (a little less unique, though) and overall, the game feels more substantial and important. It’s not just a JRPG that tries to be a Ghibli film, it is first and foremost the JRPG with a Ghibli-aesthetic. Beautiful visuals, unique characters, music is not as memorable as the first NNK but still good. One issue I have is that the game loses a bit of its steam in the middle.
NieR Automata - Game of the YorHa Edition Completed, 17 hours, 2019. 10/10
NieR Automata is one of those games you can look at and recognize its developer/publisher without knowing who it is – Square Enix. Memorable character, story like no other, contemporary soundtrack, stunning visuals and a sense of beauty, boldness and style all combined into one. NieR Automata is the perfect example of the company’s strengths and importance for the Japanese video game industry. The story of NieR Automata is staged in an interesting way, offering players to choose their own narrative and face the consequences of their choices. While the initial story may seem simple, there is much more to it and the game requires players to put effort, do the unexpected and want to see it through the end. Action is as brilliant as PlatinumGames’s Bayonetta. Music is composed by Keiichi Okabe who has been  working with Yoko Taro since Drakengard 3 (Drag-On Dragoon 3). Character design and characters themselves are unforgettable. Perhaps the best thing about NieR Automata is just how much it feels comfortable being a video game. It is highly cinematic but never limited by its identity of a game. The story is important but so is the action, and one cannot exist without each other – that is how all video games should be, I think. Or at least what video games should try to move towards. Just like that, Square Enix continues pushing the Japanese gaming industry forward, delivering the best games one might want. I can’t wait to see how will the inevitable NieR 3 or perhaps Drakengard (Drag-On Dragoon) 4 will turn out.
NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 Completed (original PS3 version on emulator... fan-translated partially), 20+ hours, 2019. 10/10
I could never imagine we would see NieR Replicant not only re-released in its true form (not Gestalt, I mean) but actually remade. When I saw the Tokyo Game Show trailer, I couldn't help but cry with tears of joy. This game is very important to me on a personal level and at that point I had given up on the idea that it'll ever get the right treatment. I still remember trying to play the "true" version using various means... I managed to play it at some point, and I watched the cutscenes with Google Translate, I even played the Japanese-only version while following YouTube walkthrough videos - needless to say, it was not a comfortable experience. NieR Replicant is a fantastic game. It is extremely creative, visually rich, has masterful writing and direction, impressive cutscenes and absolutely unforgettable soundtrack. I would easily call it a "silent Final Fantasy", it is that good. What I also love about this game is that it is not afraid to tell the story of "unlikeable heroes" - the kind of people you would usually not see in a game, or the kind of characters that would be met with negative reception from the mass-audience - the audience which didn't get to go through the things those characters did, and doesn't have enough in their hearts to understand them.

Resident Evil 3 Completed, 8 hours, 2020. 7/10
Not quite as good as Resident Evil 2 Remake, doesn’t have all of the content from original Resident Evil 3. However, since the game is built on the foundation of RE2 Remake, it holds up very well. Jill Valentine ended up being a very likable protagonist and the game is overall very enjoyable, just felt too rushed and not as good as it could have been.

Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster
It didn't age well and even as a fan of this franchise, I cannot recommend this to 99% of gamers. Had we not had SMT IV, IV:A and V, it would have been worth playing but those games do invalidate III quite a bit. Not because III is a bad game or anything like that, it's just very heavily focused on gameplay and interaction with your party-demons. So if you can do that with more depth, mechanics, better graphics and sound, why settle for this, right?
I'll keep SMT III on my list because the story - even if it's barely there - and random dialogue, seeing the "prototype", this pure, raw Shin Megami Tensei is of course interesting. And I won't say I didn't enjoy the game because I did, I just really wish there was more to it and that the remaster would have been more of a soft remake and would have fixed some issues (constant random battles, maybe add something to the combat, etc.).

Ultra Street Fighter IV was one of the first fighting games I learned how to play properly. It took me some time to understand it but eventually I even tried playing it with a fighting stick. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to consider USF IV one of the best PS3/Xbox 360 fighting games.

Game List - PlayStation 4 and PS5
Below is the list and overview of my PlayStation 4 and PS5 games.
Mastered – achieved something that grants a “mastered” status: spent more than 100 hours, played at numerous points of my life, collected all trophies or achievements, et cetera.
Dropped – I tend to avoid dropping games but there might be some which I will want to keep for one reason or another despite having negative views or just not willing to complete them properly. They will have a “Dropped” status.
No status – yet to play or haven’t finished but intend to.
PlayStation 5
Astro's Playroom Completed, 6 hours, December 2020. 8/10
This and Demon's Souls remake were my first PS5 games. I've enjoyed this platformer a lot, especially its usage of unique features of the DualSense controller and references to PlayStation games. The level design really reminded me of Super Mario 3D World in a good way. I've enjoyed collecting the treasures, especially all the PlayStation consoles and accessories, seeing all the references to other PlayStation classics. It’s admirable that this was included for free with all PS5 consoles as the game is a love letter to PlayStation's legacy.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time (PS Plus)
If like a lot, play the original trilogy (PS Plus).
Death Stranding: Director's Cut 10/10 Not finished (will)
Death Stranding has been met with a mixed response not just from gamers but critics. I think the way this game was received is very telling of the state of video game industry and culture as a whole - safe, predictable games made with the data analysis rather than a unique vision ends up disliked and thrown into a niche, regardless of its budget, cast of actors, marketing or actual quality.
Death Stranding improves upon Metal Gear Solid’s V near-perfect movement system and builds itself around the idea of taking things slowly, planning each delivery route as your own game level and overcoming obstacles with good planning. This is a next-level interaction with a game simply because the amount of control over your experience, the amount of unique situations that you may be a part of is unlike any other Kojima's game.
In Death Stranding terrain isn’t just a flat piece of a game level, it’s essentially the main enemy, obstacle faced by the main character, Sam Bridges. Unless there’ll be a sequel, I doubt that any other game will surpass the way DS handles its environments and particularly its terrain.
The gameplay takes a while to get into because it’s all about changing how you think about games, how you play them. The amount of unique personal situations for each player is enormous.
If a unique gameplay loop wasn’t enough, Death Stranding is full of style, memorable music, strong vision of Hideo Kojima and his team. There’s a great story and fantastic direction.
Death Stranding is something that happened primarily because of Kojima’s reputation in the game industry. It’s one of the best games I can think of.
Demon's Souls Completed, 22 hours, December 2020. 10/10
The first Souls game I've completed from start to finish without using too much help and while properly learning all of the gameplay. I've done magic, sword-fighting, tried various weapons. I did ask for online help a few times in the second half of the game, though, and kind of regret doing that. The graphics provide a good glimpse of how the next (or rather "current" since I am writing this in 2021) generation of games will look like. I'm hoping that more and more games will utilize the unique features of PS5 and DualSense controller in a way similar to Astro's Playroom and Demon's Souls. Adaptive triggers were a little overwhelming, I think they could have implemented these better.. but the haptic feedback added a lot to the immersion... so much that when I played Elden Ring (2022), I really missed this haptic feedback on Demon's Souls. Demon's Souls remake is still a fascinating game, despite being released in 2009 (12 years ago as I'm writing this), it remains incredibly engaging.
Demon’s Souls may not have the refinement of other Souls titles, the speed of Nioh or bosses of Sekiro, or the world-building of Elden Ring, or the atmosphere and beautiful imperfection of Dark Souls 2, or the near-flawless level design of Dark Souls 1.... What it does have is the Identity that started the entire Souls-like, the Identity that is the core of this grand experience that is Souls, the experience that’s been something where people spend thousands of hours since 2009.
FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE Completed (original, not Intergrade version), 25 hours, March 2020. 10/10
Final Fantasy VII Remake is a re-imagining of the original FF VII which was in a dire need of a remake. The original FF VII simply did not age well at all and I feel like the biggest reason why it was chosen as the first full-scale Final Fantasy remake (instead of VIII, IX and the rest) is largely due to unfulfilled ideas and cut corners. The 3D models used in this PS1 classic are off-putting, the scenes aren’t as impactful as they could have been and the translation is full of errors or unnatural dialogue. Being the first FF in PS1, there were compromises developers had to take to make this grand adventure work on hardware from the early 2000s, the next big thing since the SNES. To be fair, back in that time it was absolutely ground-breaking, I'm not downplaying the importance of original FF VII.
Being a fan-favorite entry in the franchise, Square Enix knew they had to make it right, so FF VII Remake had a rough development history… in the end, though, the game turned out to be one of the best entries in the entire FF franchise and JRPG overall.
If there is someone who knows how to make grand stories with a strong vision, attention to details and believable characters, that would of course be Tetsuya Nomura, the main person behind the Kingdom Hearts saga. In addition to Nomura, Yoshinori Kitase, the development staff included my favorite composers of Square Enix: Masashi Hamauzu, Mitsuto Suzuki, Nobuo Uematsu, all of which were able to create a unique soundtrack and atmosphere that reminded me of Final Fantasy XIII a lot.
The biggest change of this remake is the re-imagined combat. In my opinion, it’s simply perfect. The battle system of FF VII Remake takes the best of Action RPG and mixes it with the satisfaction of carefully planning your actions and commands in a turn-based combat. The usage of interface, the control and weight of actions, the difference between each character’s fighting style and carefully designed encounters are all coming together in a way that just feels perfect. From the iconic opening scene and straight to the end credits - the game is an absolute adrenaline rush with deep, carefully balanced battles that never feel the same.
The story of the game is largely the same as the original but where it differs a lot is, of course, the details, execution that make the original pale in comparison.
At the dawn of PlayStation 4, Final Fantasy has once again captured the hearts of players across the globe like no other game did.

Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate Edition Completed, 46 hours, 2020, 9/10
Mortal Kombat 11 was met with mixed to negative reactions from the players on its launch. There was definitely a good reason for this backlash, considering how little content MK11 had on its release date. Eventually Netherrealm Studios did listen to the feedback and they've updated the game with a plethora of content: extended story-mode, new (and possibly the best in the franchise) DLC fighters, extended combat and balance tweaks, improved character design and costumes... The DLC and updates turned MK11 from a decent entry in the franchise into its best game.
Mortal Kombat 11 adopts the visual style of the very first MK released back in 1992 - blend of realism, over-the-top violence and cartoons full of color. The 3D models look absolutely fantastic and after all the adjustments, I can say the character design feels near-perfect with some minor issues here and there.
The actual fighting is miles ahead of previous Netherrealm Games works. Having played Injustice 2, I liked it but I felt it was leaning into the casual side of things way too much. With Mortal Kombat 11 they've returned to a more hardcore style of play where just mashing buttons and winning is possible but there is just a lot more options to counter that with skill and of course to enjoy intricate and unique fighters. Fighting in MK11 feels fair, difficult but also very open to newcomers as the training modes are the best in the genre. The game has a variety of great tools and aid to encourage players to learn how to play it.
Mortal Kombat 11 is easily one of my favorite fighting games to this date. It doesn't shy away from suggestive content, it (mostly) makes good use of that and somehow manages to create a fighting system that can satisfy both casual and hardcore fans of the genre.
RESIDENT EVIL: VII.LAGE Completed, 10 hours, May 2021. 7/10
My first 3 hours of playing Resident Evil Village made me feel awkward and disappointed. Despite having a very strong franchise foundation, creative talent, fantastic visuals and good budget… the game doesn’t really reinvent the wheel. Resident Evil Village is just an eight entry in the RE franchise, which provides an enjoyable experience from start to finish, doesn’t require much skill or learning to beat and doesn’t attempt to be contemporary. It's Resident Evil 4 re-imagined with the ideas of Resident Evil 7... is that bad? Not necessarily. I say that my first 3 hours were disappointing not because the game was bad at that time. Quite the opposite – the castle looked great, gameplay would constantly get better and better, and the game did have this atmosphere of an exciting event all throughout. My issue with the first 3 hours is that my expectations for a contemporary story and character development were absolutely shattered.
Lady Dimitrescu was the main reason I got this game on release date, I assumed she is going to be a recurring villain of the game… just to see her essentially be a “tutorial on how to beat bosses”. That and her personal drama being very underdeveloped. Lady Dimitrescu doesn’t even have any story or character development; she is shown as a two-dimensional narcissist and that’s all there is to her in this game... Even the little bit of story she did have (wanting to remain beautiful by drinking blood) was completely ignored by the game outside of written notes… one of which was so bad it almost made me stop playing. I’m glad I didn’t stop playing, though as the game did get a lot better immediately after the Lady Dimitrescu sequence. The environments and everything that has to do with visuals of RE VIII are fantastic. I’ve taken a lot of screenshots and the game is easily one of the best-looking titles in the last 5-10 years. What’s more, I am personally interested in this setting of a village Romania, it felt great to explore and see just how much authenticity and well-crafted atmosphere the game has. Gameplay was mixed for me. I absolutely enjoyed playing RE VIII: from puzzle-solving to fighting and just about everything. I say “mixed” because, well… the highest points of the game feel too similar. RE VIII came out  16 years after Resident Evil 4 (which it obviously was inspired by), and yet it doesn’t really innovate as much as RE 4 did back when it released. Bosses and enemies rarely have any patterns or offer any challenge, this was especially noticeable with the last boss (Mother Bullet Sponge, I call her). Going back to the story… some cutscenes were uncomfortable and too much like a generic action movie, Ethan’s one-liners were not even in the “so bad it’s good” category, they were just bad. Resident Evil Vil.lage is not a bad game by any means. It has a very high chance of being one of the best action games in 2021 and I’ve enjoyed my time with it. It’s beautiful and the setting is truly interesting and unique, with a lot of care put into the visuals, sound. The gameplay was very enjoyable, I’m not denying that my criticism is merely stating the disappointing fact that the game tries to look up to RE 4 without being as ground-breaking and as inventive as that was, not just for the Japanese game industry but the world’s gaming. Lastly, the story was completely disappointing to me, with the character I was looking forward to the most having a very simple, lackluster and I’d even say uncomfortable (in a bad way) story. There is so much they could have done with Lady Dimitrescu’s character, so much with her personal story and the action of fighting her , there could have been shocking contemporary horror… but there isn’t.
Resident Evil HD Remaster and 0
Not a big fan of these but decided to keep them on this list anyway.
I think both RE HD Remaster and 0 are one of the better horror games around. Their settings are unique (mansion, train, et cetera) and the gamedesign still feels quite good despite being hardly changed (in case with HD Remaster) and inspired by the old PS1 games (in case with 0).
Visuals are great, voice-acting and story are barely there but they’re fine enough to keep going. The atmosphere of fear and unknown is there. Where both games do fail short is finding the balance between making an experience that feels oppressive, haunting and at the same time rewarding. At times the games just feel unwieldy and pointlessly complicated. I’m often mad at modern games for being too simple and lacking wonder but something like these two games here can show the opposite side of this - the lack of information, control and action-reward satisfaciton.
Still, since I like almost every other main Resident Evil game (except 5 and 6), I’ve decided to keep these two as important pieces of the franchise’s history and to remember how far games have come since the days of PlayStation 1.
RESIDENT EVIL 2 – Deluxe Edition Completed, 10 hours, 2020, Leon's story. 9/10
Despite the decline of quality in the Resident Evil franchise shortly after Resident Evil 4, the franchise enjoyed great sales and popularity. There was no reason for Capcom to risk and return to the survival horror roots and focus on quality rather than the action flick experience or cooperative play. ... And yet they did.
Since the end of PlayStation 2 generation horror games and generally anything zombie-themed were practically non-existent. Some (like Alan Wake) were exclusive to Xbox 360, some never made it past the initial drafts, some received little to no attention despite being decent (Siren on PS3) and some franchises have vanished completely or were butchered or turned into co-op action flick (Silent Hill, Resident Evil). It's interesting because horror games are one of the most appropriate genres for console gaming. A horror game does not need as many resources, there are a lot of corners that can be cut seamlessly (see Outlast) and there is no need for large amounts of enemies on the screen. So what's the reason?... Creativity, perhaps?
I feel like horror is something where a lot of different things come into play, the things people don't want to admit or see. Animalistic urges, hate, phobias, excitement over seeing death, interacting with, sexual power fantasy and how it connects with violence.... Horror requires a certain amount of exposure and self-awareness, being able to see the ugly simplicity of human nature and play with that to evoke fear, the specific kind of fear that will hurt the audience and keep it asking for more...
Resident Evil had always been a franchise capable of doing these things, though it did so mostly under the influence of people now long gone from Capcom (Shinji Mikami, Hideki Kamiya, etc.).
With Resident Evil 2 Remake the franchise returns to its survival horror roots. The game has been rebuilt and reimagined to keep all that made the original PS1 so memorable while also modernizing it in every way. "Remake" in its title almost feels unnecessary as the original - after playing Remake - feels like a script for this game.
While the story is fairly simple, it's an enjoyable ride from start to finish. The atmosphere of oppression, horror and the need to keep track of resources, count every bullet, seek out secrets are the integral part of this experience.
Resident Evil 2 Remake is one of the main points of a comeback Capcom has made during the PS4 generation and it essentially revived once stagnating the Resident Evil franchise.
Resident Evil 4 (Original)
Returnal Completed, 30 hours, 2021. 10/10
Having played Metroid Dread some time after Returnal.... I wasn't necessarily disappointed. I'm aware two are quite different: one is a 3D shooter and the other is a mix of a 2D platformer and exploration... and yet, I feel Returnal took my expectations from Metroid games to the level Nintendo simply cannot reach. Not because of the lack of creativity (Nintendo is the leading creator in the industry), it's just the company's focus on low-powered devices that simply make it impossible for something like Returnal to be made.
And what is Returnal anyway? A game favored even by the lead architect of PlayStation 5 game console. Returnal utilizes everything that makes PS5 such a unique device capable of delivering emotions, graphics and gameplay that weren't possible on any previous console generations.
At the core of Returnal lies a familiar world of a woman trapped in the alien world, making their way out of it and discovering something about themselves. Returnal takes the motives Metroid mostly just hinted at and creates a narrative that is actually moving and impactful without damaging the flow of the gameplay.
Speaking of the main character, the voice actress who voiced Selene (Jane Perry) was phenomenal in the role. Their voice-acting and Selene as a character brought a lot to make Returnal feel more special and real.
The best part of Returnal, though, is its gameplay. Shooting is satisfying, weapons feel different and there is always some variety thanks to the light rogue-like elements. Bosses reminded me of Dark Souls a bit.
Returnal is a technological marvel, one which takes the ideas and inspiration of Metroid and takes them to a height which is just not possible to achieve on other gaming devices. Playing Metroid Dread, even if they're different, just felt lackluster to me because of how much Returnal pushed all that makes Metroid memorable and wraps it all in masterful gamedesign wrapped around the carcass of a fully-charged next-gen title.

Bloodborne: Complete Edition Completed, 28 hours (more hours prior to this), April 2022. 9/10
I’ve played a lot of Bloodborne and not one time but a few... never finished it until 2022. Perhaps it's my soul-crushing experience with Sekiro that made me finish Bloodborne in just 28 hours. Regardless, this isn't to say that Bloodborne was easy, it's still one of the most challenging games in the industry.
Unlike Dark Souls and Demon's Souls, Bloodborne focused on a few weapons rather than this highly customizable experience of Souls games. There is plenty of customization in the game without a doubt but the experience simply feels more curated than any other (except Sekiro) Souls.
Nearly every location in Bloodborne is memorable, bosses still demand wits and courage to face and the game feels very organic. Music, visuals, monster design, story...
With its strong art-design, game-design and modified Souls mechanics, Bloodborne remains some of the best gaming experiences on PS4.
Blue Reflection May continue, about 10 hours, 2020. 7/10
Blue Reflection is one of the most underrated JRPG. It has a beautiful visual style, unique storyline which tackles topics such as loneliness, grief, disability and other themes games rarely explore.
Blue Reflection also has a fantastic soundtrack which reminded me of Masashi Hamauzu and Final Fantasy XIII trilogy.
The combat system is simple, but it works and feels fun to play.
The only issues I have with the game are: a) there is slight sexualization which is sadly a given for many Japanese games that aren’t made by the biggest publishers; b) the story becomes a little too formulaic after the first 4-5 hours which is, again, an unfortunate staple of less popular JRPG. Even with the negatives in mind, Blue Reflection remains one of the most unique JRPG around. It evokes the feeling of melancholy, loneliness, replicates the atmosphere of highschool like very few other games do.
Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls (prefer the PS4 version, but keeping for portability)
Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony Completed, 30 hours, 2018-2019, 8/10
Danganronpa V3 is the finale of the Danganronpa. Despite not being a fan of mystery and detective stories, I felt very engaged with all parts of the game: investigations, trials, off-case moments and just everything. The characters are as quirky as you’d expect from a Danganronpa game and none of them feel fake despite heavily relying on anime archetypes.
Danganronpa V3 has some of my favorite characters in the series and the story was brought to a logical, fitting conclusion.
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin Completed, 50 hours, June 2022. 9/10
Imperfectly beautiful. Dark Souls II is ugly quite often, beautiful occasionally and terribly engaging nearly all the time. There are a lot of things which could have been done better, a lot of things that feel fake or out of place... and yet somehow all of it connects into an experience that's not just a couple more levels for Dark Souls 1. Perhaps that was the entire point? Produced without Hidetaka Miyazaki's (original creator of DS) involvement, the game stood little to no chance of replicating the success of the original. It was set to be an ugly duckling.... so all it had to do to succeed was to embrace that, and it did. It may not have been intentional but I feel that's what it is.
One of the key points I want to note, though, is that DS2 does "beat" other Souls in some ways. My favorite thing about Dark Souls 2 is the amount of interactivity it allows when exploring levels. Dark rooms will be dark and require a torch, the torch needs to be rekindled, various areas can be lit to make progression easier, areas have traps and obstacles that take deaths to figure out. Looking back at Bloodborne, I cannot think of any platforming sections similar to DS2 in which terrain plays a major role and adds to the immersion.
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin fixed the initial balance and technicality issues of DS2. A sequel that just gives you "a little more of the same" is a failure, in my opinion, and Dark Souls 2 dares to be different.
Dead or Alive 6 Mastered, 100 hours, platinum trophy, 2019. 9/10
The 9/10 score is in no way objective, I am aware of the issues of Dead or Alive 6 compared to its predecessors, weak (though, that is to be expected in a fighting game) story and issues with the post-release support. The score is there primarily because this was the first DoA I’ve played extensively. The game time went over 100 hours and I’ve even got a platinum trophy.
The one character I learned was the most was Christie. Apart from her, Helena, Nyotengu and Mila.
Dead or Alive 6 is an incredible fighting game. The combat mechanics were refined and tuned in to perfection, the graphics are better than ever. One of my favorite fighting games.
Devil May Cry 5 Completed, 15 hours, 2020. 10/10
Digimon Survive (Physical)
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT - Digital Deluxe Edition (+ Yuna, Snow, Vayne, Locke, Rinoa, Kamlanaut DLC; might get Tifa and other DLC) May continue, 2019-2020, about 10 hours. 7/10
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is the second console game in the Dissidia FF franchise. It was originally released on Japanese arcades and then adapted into a console title and unfortunately that initial limitation had left its mark on the game’s identity. The graphics are spectacular and the storyline is quite alright for what it is. The gameplay is not as good as the original Dissidia, I thought, and there’s a lot more that could have been done. But overall, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is a decent fighting game with a steep learning curve for the fans of Final Fantasy.

The Last of Us: Part II and I Completed, 25 hours, 2021. 7/10
If the idea behind The Last of Us series was to have each entry be a symbol of each period of life of a person, then the developers have succeeded. The first game can be seen as childhood: innocent and conventional but also striking, with warm color palette and almost comic-booky graphics, story that depict a genuine selfless bond… and of course the ending which was the first touch of unforgiving reality.
After having finished the second game, I think the point of it was to depict a person’s struggle of moving from teenage years into adulthood – the time when innocence is lost, and the freedom of choice often leads to mistakes.
There are some issues I've had with the story but overall I think TLOU2 deserves a lot of praise for being one of the first big video games to tacklet same-sex romance. My main issues are mostly with the people who made the game (Naughty Dog), but that likely deserves a separate article...
Little Nightmares: Complete Edition Completed, 10-15 hours, 2019. 7/10
I’m always comparing this game to Inside, another indie platformer which is also a horror. I think Little Nightmares does a much better job at having this “paint-like” type of storytelling where you only get the clues of what’s happening and piece things together by yourself. Inside just felt too lose with its story and left me with more questions than answers… not that Little Nightmares didn’t. However, I felt more satisfied when I finished this game. The visuals are incredible and it’s something you need to see for yourself. Sound design and platforming, the dark themes all work great. Little Nightmares is one of my favorite indie games.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Definitive Experience Completed, 20-40 hours, before 2015. 10/10
I’ve seen a lot of hate towards this game, especially from the fans of the franchise. I consider myself a fan of MGS, too but more casual: I like MGS 3, Peace Walker a lot and I did enjoy MGS 2 but not enough to call it my all-time favorite game. I’ve never been a fan of David Hayter (main character’s voice in MGS games) and I disliked his performance in MGS 4 a lot, so much that I don’t even want to play that game even though I know it’s well-made. Which is why I was very happy to learn that the voice-actor for Snake was changed for MGS V from Hayter to Keifer Sutherland. There are some story reasons which justify this and I thought his performance was brilliant. What I liked even more was how masterfully the change for the voice-actor was explained and how careful the dialogue and voice-acting of Snake was in this game. Keifer Sutherland as Big Boss (Snake) became one of my favorite performances in a game. With that aside, I thought the gameplay was a perfect evolution of MGS formula. The movement was tuned in to perfection and to this day I find it difficult to find another game with moment done so well (except Death Stranding, the next project of Hideo Kojima). In some ways MGS V is like The Legend of Zelda BOTW of the MGS franchise. Story was good, too. Some kept assuming that “this and that was cut during production” or “Konami interfered” and such.. I’m sure Konami did interfere and the whole drama with Kojima being fired (or leaving voluntarily?) did impact the game negatively. But on another side, I don’t see what could have been added into the story. All of the main plot points make sense, they’re explained well and I believe Kojima purposefully made the game seem more like an episodic TV show compared to a movie cut into pieces (MGS 4). A lot of criticism towards MGS 4 was directed at the lengthy cutscenes, and I’m sure Kojima noticed it and tried to fix in the fifth game. Metal Gear Solid V is one of my absolute favorite video games of all time and my most favorite part of MGS franchise, followed by Peace Walker, then 3 and then 2.
Ni No Kuni: The Wrath of the White Witch - Remastered
NIOH: Complete Edition Platinum (on PS4). PS4 and EGS versions. Mastered, 127 hours, July 2018. Keeping PS4 and EGS version.
Nioh 2

Persona 5 Royal - Ultimate Edition Completed (original, not Royal), 80 hours, 2018. 10/10
This mini-review is primarily about the non-Royal version as I haven’t played Royal yet. Persona 5 is a perfect JRPG which is a part of the “Renaissance of JRPG” movement which occurred during the PS4 generation and is currently ongoing. Persona 5 is perfect with everything it tries to do. Its combat is very responsive but also very strategic and near impossible to get through without learning it. There is a lot to do apart from fighting and everything flows very naturally. All of the social parts of gameplay work, the mini-games and side-content you can do isn’t there just to extend the hour count. Story is very carefully written and is not afraid to go into some dark topics while retaining the positive and bright tone all throughout. The game never rushes through things too quickly, everything is slowly set up and all of the conflicts and story points feel like they matter. Visuals and character design are as good as you would expect from Japanese game developers. Persona 5 Royal adds one more semester to the story and a lot of other content into the game. I haven’t played the Royal content yet, just the original version but I’m sure even 10/10 is not enough to explain how good this experience is.
Sakura Wars
Samurai Shodown Completed (Darli), 2019, 15+ hours, 7/10
Samurai Shodown is one of the few non-3D fighting games I like a lot. My main problem with the genre is just how limited the movesets are and how repetitive they feel to me. While the number of available actions in SS isn't as good as SoulCalibur VI, I still enjoyed this a lot. In order to win a match, you (and your opponent) need to carefully watch each other's behavior and the entire round can be won with just a few slashes. Various little details (like the chance to loose your character's weapon during a fight and then have to retrieve it) add a lot of immersion and the musical score, sound effects all connect with each other, creating a one-of-a-kind fighting game experience.
Samurai Warriors 5 (Physical)
SG/ZH: School Girl/Zombie Hunter
Shadow of the Colossus May continue (almost finished), 7 hours, 2020. 9/10
Shadow of the Colossus is a classic PS2 game remade for PS3 and eventually PS4. It managed to become a monumental game and something that pushed PS2 to the absolute limit. The visual design is both technically and artistically beautiful; all of the bosses take wits and cleverness to beat but they never feel too overpowered – they are living creatures, after all. The story is very subtle and from what I know, Hidetaka Miyazaki was inspired by SOTC when creating Souls games.
One nice feature of the remake is that it adds a variety of filters which can make the visuals even better, if you choose the right color palette for every new area. Shadow of the Colossus is an excellent example of what makes games good.
Shenmue I & II I - Completed, 15 hours, August 2018. II - watched cutscenes until the end, hours, August 2019.

Team Sonic Racing PS Plus
SoulCalibur VI (+ most DLC) All DLC. Mastered (Groh), 286 hours, October-December 2018.
SoulCalibur VI is my favorite fighting game of all time. It was my first SoulCalibur and I’ve played it more than any other fighting game. SC VI offers very deep 3D combat with a variety of characters, all of which are fun to learn. The “learning” part is perhaps my most favorite element of fighting game, and SC VI is excellent at that. Every character has a large amount of moves with inputs that feel natural. On top of that, you can create any kind of character you want in case if there’s someone you want to play as but dislike their character design. And not only that but you have full freedom over customizing your favorite characters and all of the customization works (unlike Tekken 7…..). SoulCalibur VI is an epic fighting game with fantastic music, atmosphere and memorable characters.
Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness
Street Fighter V: Champion Edition Completed, 40 hours, 2018-2020. 8/10
I’ve played Street Fighter as a child, then tried Ultra Street Fighter IV and enjoyed it to an extent, even got a fighting stick just to get better at it. However, none of the older SF games had me as excited to play them as SF V and I think that is largely due to the improved presentation. Street Fighter V feels like a constant ongoing tournament, every time you enter the main menu, you’re met with a welcoming world which is all about this unique SF experience. The colors are bright, the character models are attractive and everything feels right. On top of that, the gameplay is a little more streamlined and much easier to learn than ever before.
One of the issues I have with the game is its “super move” and how little explanation there is over them. During the battle I mostly felt like I would trigger these randomly and that was confusing. Other than that, I think SF V is the perfect entry in the franchise with a great visual style and selection of characters.
Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum Session Completed, 10 hours, 2020. 5/10
Taiko no Tatsujin Drum Session is essentially the same game as the Switch version but with some new songs. It’s fun to play and is difficult to master. One of my favorite rhythm games.
Tales of Berseria
Tales of Zestiria Beaten, 28 hours, February 2019. Consider getting the Steam version for better performance.
Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition
Tokyo Xanadu ex+
Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late
Unravel & Unravel Two Completed, 10-15 hours, 2018-2019. 7/10
Unravel and Unravel Two are charming and somewhat melancholic games by Electronic Arts. Visuals are an interesting mix of fantasy and reality, they reminded me of Pikmin. Platforming, physics feel engaging, though some puzzles in the first game were very confusing and even while using a guide, I couldn’t progress. Luckily, Unravel Two fixes that. Both games are excellent, and I enjoyed them a lot.
Yakuza 0 Completed, hours, June 2018
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana
YS IX: Monstrum Nox Completed, 15+ hours, 2021, 6/10
Very satisfying combat, terrible story. Open-world was a great addition.

Game List - Nintendo DS and 3DS
Below is the list and overview of Nintendo DS and 3DS games.

The Alliance Alive
Animal Crossing: New Leaf Completed, 50+ hours, 2016. 10/10
I used to have a little tradition of playing this on Christmas holidays. It was sweet to spend the holidays with the animal villagers in this Animal Crossing world.
DRAGON QUEST Monsters: Joker 3 Professional Fan-translated, completed, 10+ hours, 2021, 7/10.
In terms of technology and overall experience, Joker 3 Professional is currently (2022) the best DQ Monsters game. I liked its visuals, variety of monsters and the addicting fights, music.
What brought it down a little for me was the combat and interface. Each monster levels up quickly, gets a lot of skills and eventually it just becomes a chore to manage. I wish the game had some limits on the amount of skills and better interface.
The story is fine, though it's not something I really want to see through the end, so I've decided to mark it as complete. Monsters Joker 3 is a joy for the fans of Dragon Quest. You can befriend and fight alongside your favorite monsters and that's what this game is all about.
DRAGON QUEST VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past Dropped, 40+ hours, 2021, 6/10
Dragon Quest VII is a remake of a PS1 game. It's hard to forget this, especially during the brilliant opening sequences of the game. I like the cast of characters, music but unfortunately the game ends up being too long and too poorly paced which made mark it as “Dropped”. I truly did give it a chance and wanted to finish it but I think I’ll need a severe drought of new games to go back to this one.
The story is essentially a collection of vignettes with this episodic format of storytelling. It works but at some point the story starts to feel repetitive and some vignettes are just not great at all. I stopped playing at the one with the robots and the scientists just because it got so tedious with no end in sight and that story being rather cliche. Was it cliche on PS1? Probably not, the amount of story-heavy games was minimal back then and I feel the expectations were much lower, other than games like Final Fantasy.. but looking at DQ VII as if it was a 3DS game truly brings it down.
Another issue is the graphics and overall technical quality. It looks noticeably good in many ways but the few where it doesn't (character models, dungeons, etc.) really bring down the entire experience. The battle system that takes 20-30 hours to introduce more depth and skill system is not fun, too. And my biggest issue is that the character models repeat a lot, with some side-characters that you see through the main story having those identical twins... Small details like that take away from it.
So what makes me give this game I don't really want to finish and have a lot of issues with a 6/10? The opening sequence, the atmosphere of adventure and the good moments of the game are truly memorable and unlike anything else even within the Dragon Quest franchise. Dragon Quest 7 deserves a remake with much more budget and technological resources because what's there is great, it's just the execution and pacing that bring it down, unfortunately.
DRAGON QUEST VIII: Journey of the Cursed King Completed, 45 hours, 2021, 8/10
Dragon Quest VIII was the first mainline DQ game that went for expensive 3D graphics and tried to modernise the game’s design and overall presentation.
The domain of King Trode is brought to ruin by an evil mage Dolmagus. The main character (Hero) decides to help his king to reclaim the kingdom and defeat the villain. The story of DQ VIII is quite simple, it takes an episodic approach of having small stories and moving from town to town to progress further. However, this format works quite well because the story isn’t too long and it generally feels a lot more impressive than DQ VII does as you progress. Even though I disliked or didn’t care for most of the characters (except King Trode and Red), I found myself constantly engaged, carefully reading the dialogue and anticipating the next event in the story. The gameplay is the classic turn-based combat but there are a few important changes which give it more depth compared to the SNES Dragon Quest games. The progression and balance are very good, I never felt like I’m losing battles because I haven’t grinded enough and the story (except the final hours and post-game) can be finished with good pacing if you’re not avoiding battles too much. The leveling is also balanced quite nicely, you earn levels slowly but every ability you get changes the flow of the combat and it’s worth waiting for. DQ VIII is a classic JRPG and one of the best experiences of the genre. It plays very well even in 2021. I am not giving it 9/10 because: a) I felt like the characters could have been more interesting; b) the final hours of the game are too cryptic. I’ve done everything I was supposed to, but the final event would not trigger, and I couldn’t progress to the final boss. I’ve looked at the walkthrough guide and I still don’t know what went wrong, so instead I watched the ending and post-game on YouTube.
With all this said, DQ VIII is definitely a must to try if you liked XI.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Fire Emblem Fates: Special Edition Undub
The Legend of Legacy
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
Luigi’s Mansion
Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon
Mario Kart 7 Completed, 5+ hours, 2019, 6/10.
I played Mario Kart 7 after the 8th game, so of course it wasn’t as impressive. Still I thought it was a lot of fun and the levels were all interesting. I’m wondering how was it to play MK7 online back when it came out.
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions
Paper Mario: Sticker Star
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Completed, 28 hours, March 2021. 8/10
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to play Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate until I found out that this game has underwater combat. That is something no other modern Monster Hunter has, and I’ve heard that this mechanic is clunky… it didn’t feel that way to me and I enjoyed underwater combat a lot. This was actually the main reason I liked 3U that much. The gameplay is near perfect and even though you’re mostly doing the same thing, it rarely feels like that. The only few reasons why I lowered the score to 8/10 are: a) I wish the game focused on underwater combat and only that, while I enjoyed fighting the classic MH monsters, I wanted something I haven’t seen in World or other newer entries of the franchise; b) I got stuck with one of the quests and for some reason the game wouldn’t let me progress unless I’d do a capture quest (which I enjoy to an extent but not when they are required). That was one of the final main story quests and I’ve decided to finish playing on that point. MH3 Ultimate is a great entry in MH franchise which has plenty of monsters and unique mechanics which make it worth playing even after World. And if you find the main story monsters simple, Arena has a lot of challenges.
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
Monster Hunter Stories
New Super Mario Bros. 2 Completed, 10 hours, 2017. 6/10
New Super Mario Bros. 2 subseries seems to have a negative reputation on the Internet. I can see why that’s the case. NSMB 1 on DS and Wii were… not bad, just not what you’d expect from a Mario game, especially on such successful consoles such as Wii and DS. And I think that was amplified by the bad mechanic of Mario being able to eat a certain mushroom and proceed to destroy the blocks and pipes... it’s just so insensitive and off-putting, especially when you’re making a game that supposedly appeals to those who like the older Mario. Regardless, NSMB2 doesn’t let Mario’s mushroom feasting get too wild, and I found it to be very enjoyable. It doesn’t do some of the things it could have done (like take the ideas from Mario GBA games and expand on that), it’s just a very simple “soft remake” of the NES Mario, and sometimes (if done right), that is enough.
Phoenix Wright - Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice
Phoenix Wright: Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney
Pokemon Ultra Sun Completed, 9 hours, 2019. 8/10
One of my issues with older Pokemon games is their reliance on this somewhat outdated crude SNES level- and game-design. In Ultra Sun developers at GameFreak tried to move past that and I think they've done a great job.
Ultra Sun and Moon are set in a fictional place called Aloha (loosely based on Hawaii). The atmosphere of warmth can be felt all throughout the game. Starting Pokemon were very cute and the battles engaging.
Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon is one of my favorite games on 3DS.
Poochy & Yoshi's Wooly World Completed, 5-10 hours, 2019. 9/10
It's a bit unfortunate that Yoshi games don't get the recognition they deserve. This particular entry is an incredibly creative and warm experience. My favorite part of the game is the collection of short animations that you unlock by playing the game.
Poochy & Yoshi's Wooly World has one of the best visuals on 3DS and its gameplay is quite fun.
Puyo Puyo Tetris Fan-translated
Shin Megami Tensei IV Undub
Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse / Final Undub, completed, sided with Merkabah, March 2021, 35 hours. 10/10
SMT IV: Apocalypse is considered an epilogue to SMT IV. It’s not entirely wrong to say that Apocalypse is a “sequel” or “epilogue” but one of the “notes” in the game says that Apocalypse is essentially another perspective on IV. I liked how the game explains its connection to IV in a way which doesn’t invalidate the choices the players could have made in IV and the story they personally see as “canon”. IV Apocalypse is essentially the “second disc” of IV with minor changes and improvements to the core gameplay and, of course, a new story and world. The stakes of the story are always high, and there’s a lot of unexpected plot twists. The game is also quite scandalous, and I often wondered how did Nintendo not object to some of the bits of the story.
One thing I like the most about IV Apocalypse story is that it doesn’t necessarily force any narrative upon you. You are free to eventually choose who you support in the conflict and the game doesn’t mark your choices as “bad end”. In my case, I’ve chosen Law/Order ending and I was satisfied with it. It ended the game prematurely but that was my story, I liked not being forced to save the world like in any other JRPG. What is the point of even having dialogue options if you always have to “save the princess”?
The gameplay has a strong learning curve, and I found the balancing to be a little messy due to the numerous difficulty options. I went with Skirmish (2nd difficulty out of 6) and felt like it’s too easy, then switched to War (3rd difficulty) and it felt too difficult. I would have preferred one or two options but have them be more balanced. That said, the fights are fun and rarely feel the same, recruiting and combining demons has a lot of depth. Even though IV Apocalypse is primarily targeted at young adults, the story explores a lot of mature topics in a way a lot of popular fiction doesn’t. It pushes a certain message which is very fresh and doesn’t favor one side over another. Overall, the narrative in SMT IV Apocalypse is fantastic. SMT IV Final / Apocalypse suffers a lot from the technical limitations, the game looks very rough when it’s using 3D and it often feels like movement and exploration could have been so much better, especially looking at the release date (2016). Regardless, the story, gameplay and the masterful craftmanship of Atlus is as good as ever. It may not be technologically as good as some other games I’ve given a 10 or even lower score to but SMT IV: A isn’t hindered by that because it knows how to make proper use of its limitations.
SMT IV Apocalypse is one of my favorite JRPG of all time.
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked Undub
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker Undub
Super Mario 3D Land Completed, 5-10 hours, 2018. 8/10
Super Mario 3D Land continued Nintendo’s tradition of releasing Mario games on both handheld platforms and home consoles. 3D Land is not the same as 3D World (released on Wii U) and the levels are completely different, some mechanics are different…
Both 3D Land and 3D World are great 3D platformers with the mark of quality expected from Nintendo and Mario.
Tales of the Abyss Undub + original skits
Theatrhythm: DRAGON QUEST Not localized
Theatrhythm: FINAL FANTASY – Curtain Call
Yoshi's New Island
Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma Completed, 2018-2019, 5-10 hours. 6/10
I wasn’t too interested in the concept of this game until I learned more about the characters. The “Q” team consists of three personalities, all which I found to be very unique. I’m not too happy with the way the story treats them and the outcome, but it is a horror-thriller visual novel game, after all.
The puzzles felt a little off and too intrusive but overall, I like the game. mostly for its story.
Nintendo DS
Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth
Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth 2 Fan-translated.
Avalon Code Undub
Blood of Bahamut Fan-translated.
Children of Mana
Chrono Trigger
DRAGON QUEST V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride
DRAGON QUEST VI: Realms of Revelation
DRAGON QUEST IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies
Dragon Quest Monsters Joker Dropped, 5+ hours, 2019. 6/10
It's unlikely I'll be finishing this because there isn't that much story. What I like about the first Monsters Joker is the atmosphere of an exciting tournament. I feel like no other modern DQ Monsters game has gotten as close to this. It almost feels like watching a tournament arc in Dragon Ball but with Dragon Quest aesthetics and Pokémon catching of monsters.
Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2
FINAL FANTASY 4 Heroes of Light
Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales Dropped, 5+ hours, 2019. 6/10
This one is definitely a game aimed at children but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'm keeping it because I like Final Fantasy lore and creatures a lot and especially the Chocobo subseries. It's very cute.
FINAL FANTASY Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates Undub, completed, under 10 hours, 2019. 7/10
Ring of Fates tells the story of siblings who were forced into the world of adults. The game is surprisingly sad and moving, though I’d avoid talking too much about the story to not spoil anything.
I liked the voice-acting (undubbed, can’t vouch for the English voices) and the gameplay. To me Ring of Fates is a statement that a good story doesn’t need expensive hardware or graphics, it’s more about execution, knowing how to handle and overcome the limitations of a system and providing engaging experience as a game rather than anything else.
FINAL FANTASY Tactics A2 – Grimoire of the Rift
FINAL FANTASY XII: Revenant Wings
Infinite Space
Heroes of Mana
KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days
KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Coded Completed, 15-20 hours, 2018-2019. 8/10
This was the game that had convinced me to look at Kingdom Hearts franchise with an open mind. I admit, prior to this I was really stuck up about KH and didn’t understand how can the anime aesthetics, JRPG and Square Enix themes blend in well with Disney but Re:Coded changed my mind.
The story in Re:Coded was surprisingly more engaging to me than Kingdom Hearts 1. Perhaps this is because there was less separation between the “two worlds” of KH-inspired Square Enix and Disney.
I liked the gameplay mechanics a lot, the upgrade system worked very well and
Knights in the Nightmare
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks Finished, 10-20 hours, 2019-2020. 9/10
This is at the top of my list of favorite The Legend of Zelda games. Spirit Tracks has an unforgettable atmosphere of adventure, riding the train is fun and never gets old, the puzzles are clever and intuitive, visuals look impressive even in 2021. One of the things I like about Spirit Tracks a lot is that it had a feature which allows the player to write things down, take notes or make markings on the map with a stylus. It’s such a simple idea but it works flawlessly and I wish more Zelda and just all puzzle games had in-game notepads where you could take notes without moving away from the screen, it adds a lot to the atmosphere.
Zelda Spirit Tracks is my favorite DS game.
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
Okamiden
Radiant Historia
Solatorobo
Soma Bringer Fan-translated
Suikoden Tierkries Undub
Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume Undub, to continue

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Digital, completed, 30 hours in March-April 2020. 8/10
While there are some things I thought could have been better or had been better in the previous entries (New Leaf and Wild World), none of it really matters. New Horizons is a very relaxing and peaceful experience to log into every other day to see how the animals are doing or to improve your island.
Bayonetta 2
Cartridge, completed, 15 hours, 2018-2019. 9/10
Ah, to be a demon under the heal of Bayonetta... Might change the score to 10 or 8, depending on how I like Bayonetta 3.
Bayonetta 3
The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ Digital, completed, under 10 hours, before 2015 (not Rebirth version), 7/10
Fun roguelike with a nice subtle story about a certain baby who gets to visit.. Hell?
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Digital, completed, 10 hours, 2018-2019. 8/10
Captain Toad is a spin-off of the Mario franchise that focuses more on puzzles rather than platforming. I always liked Toads, so it’s nice to see them get their own game.
The entire game was a very refreshing take on Mario and I’m hoping this would eventually get a sequel. All of the puzzles were fun to solve, the secrets were interesting to find and I particularly liked how much thought was put into every level and its design.
I’d recommend this to everyone who likes Mario games.
Catherine: Full Body Digital, completed (on PS4), 7 hours, 2019. 10/10 Chose Katherine as partner, chosen voice of Catherine was Nana Mizuki.
Catherine: Full Body is essentially a “Director’s Cut” of the 2011’s Catherine released for PS3 and Xbox 360. At that time, I didn’t know much about games, so I missed its initial release. Full Body adds a lot of content with the most interesting being an option to not only switch to the original Japanese voice-acting but to also choose the voice-actress you prefer for one of the characters… and there’s quite a few options to choose from, all being famous Japanese seiyuu (voice-actors), so everyone could find their perfect “heart-stealer”.
In many ways this game is an absolute miracle – it goes against all the cliché and tendencies of the market; it mixes up the unique atmosphere of Shin Megami Tensei games with a more mundane, simplistic story of a certain person’s issues with a relationship. At first I didn’t think I would be able to relate to the main character but the choice system makes it much easier and essentially lets you choose your own story, tilt the protagonist into a more relatable side.
Catherine Full Body is one of my favorite video games of all time. It is not afraid of being a niche title or providing less than 10 hours of play time. The story of Catherine is very personal, moving and keeps the player on edge all the time. And if that wasn’t enough, there are many complicated puzzles, which can be skipped if you just want to focus on the story.
The biggest strength of Catherine Full Body is just how well it’s executed. I would recommend this game to everyone.

Not as good as Mario Kart, unfortunately, but overall a very nice game for the fans of Final Fantasy. Intend to get the full version eventually.

FINAL FANTASY: Crystal Chronicles - Remastered Digital, completed, 5+ hours, 2021. 6/10
Made primarily for multiplayer and co-op, it’s hard to judge FF Crystal Chronicles as a single-player experience... what kept me playing then? The game has a brilliant atmospere and music of a classic Final Fantasy. It also features this unique system of interaction with the game’s world which was quite unique back then and even now - random events that can end with different outcomes.
FF CC is just a very comfy experience, worth seeing for the fans of this franchise. I only wish it had been more fun (and easier, as later dungeons get difficult) without multiplayer.
I have not finished the story properly but marking it as “Complete” since it isn’t necessarily a story-heavy experience.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (+ DLC) Cartridge, completed, 50 hours, 2018-2019. 10/10
Excellent new take on The Legend of Zelda series. The game is masterful in everything it does with a story that’s told in an interesting, similar to Dark Souls way, that encourages you to understand it on your own rather than overwhelm with exposition. The gameplay is fantastic, character design and dialogue are unlike any other game and all the puzzles, dungeons are clever. One of the best games ever made.
I’ve completed the story and a lot of dungeons, though not all of them. Also haven’t played the DLC content.
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening No license, completed, 2021, 10 hours. 8/10
Link’s Awakening is the remake of a 1993 TLOZ game. It’s very telling that the remake of the game released in 1993 doesn’t need to change anything to still be very engaging to play from start to finish.
I liked the toy-like graphics a lot and for the most part I’ve had no issue with progressing through the game. It really felt like playing a smaller scale new game rather than a remake of a game from the early 90s.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Digital
Luigi’s Mansion 3 Digital
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Gold Edition Digital, completed, 20-30 hours, 2021. 8/10
Inspired by the X-Com and Fire Emblem, Mario+Rabbids genuinely feels like a Mario game, even though it was developed (mostly?) by Ubisoft.
The battle system manages to stay reasonably challenging, authentic to Mario and Rabbids franchises. I did feel like the game lacked some variety and perhaps some kind of overworld, secrets and new enemy types somewhere near the end but I may have just needed a break.
I’d absolutely recommend this game to any fan of the Mario franchise or if you just like tactical experiences similar to X-Com and Fire Emblem.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe No cartridge, completed, 5-10 hours, 2018-2019. 8/10
Though it would have been better to get a brand new entry in Mario Kart franchise (since MK8 is a port of the Wii U game of the same name), the game is still a lot of fun to play and Nintendo finally has decided to add more tracks from previous entries.
I love all the attention to detail and just how different each race can feel, this global feel of playing online matches or having fun solo. Highly recommended.
Mega Man 11 Digital, completed, 10-15 hours, 2019. 8/10
Capcom has been on a roll since the start of the eighth console generation and they haven’t disappointed me with this new entry in Mega Man franchise. I’ve played some Mega Man prior to 11 but none of them really stood out to me much. With this 11th entry they’ve added a few unique mechanics which complete the experience and make the game a lot more satisfying and varied.
Mega Man 11 is cute but don’t let the looks deceive you, the platforming here can be as upsetting as failing to progress through the area in Dark Souls. The difficulty does get a little uncomfortable at times, though thankfully there are difficulty options at least. I do feel like the game could have used more balancing to even out some truly unfair moments but perhaps that would have been contrary to the game’s design.
If you like platformers with some challenge, Mega Man 11 is for you.
Minecraft Digital, mastered, before 2014, 100+ hours (PC beta version). 10/10
I’ve spent one of my high-school Summer breaks just playing this game online and offline. Online experience was… something else. Since I couldn’t afford an official copy at that time, I had to play on (Jack Sparrow) servers and that’s with my very slow modem Internet in my village. Most of the servers I’d join were toxic and had these “griefers” who would destroy people’s creations on purpose. This would happen on other servers, too, but they’ve had protection against that. Minecraft is one of the best games ever made, its unique gameplay, masterful game-design are still as impressive as they were back when the game launched for beta-testing. Despite being limited by the “blocky” graphics, the game manages to look beautiful while in motion and offer an endless amount of creativity.
This game doesn’t have a heart-wrenching story but it doesn’t really need one. The story of Minecraft is what you make of it and the memories of complete creative freedom and melancholic exploration.

NEW Pokemon Snap Digital
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Digital, completed, 2019, 5-10 hours. 7/10
I see NSMBros. U Deluxe as a soft remake of the old Mario games (SNES-GBA etc.). It has a simple aesthetic, levels and gameplay reminiscent of those old titles. Ultimately this hurts the game because the things that were the top of the line just a few years ago don’t really work that well after some time had passed. Let alone the game design of pre-2000. However, this doesn’t mean NSMBros U is a bad game, it is just lacking inspiration and complexity that one expects from Mario and Nintendo.
If you don’t expect it to be the next Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Bros U Deluxe is a fun game for a few evenings.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe Digital, completed, 6-7 hours, 2021. 8/10
The third entry in the franchise of the intergalactic adventures, cute alien-flowers, giant fruit, bridges and... canned food? o_O
Pikmin 3 is an real-time strategy game at its heart, minus the clunkiness you’d expect to see in a regular RTS. The experience is just so finely tuned that you quickly forget you’re playing a strategy game.
If the cute alien-flowers and giant fruit weren’t enough, I can say that the strategic elements of the game are also quite fun. Pikmin 3 has a lot of optional content for extended replayability, so rest assured there is plenty to do other than just the main story.
It’ll be interesting to see how this franchise evolves in the upcoming fourth entry.
PixelJunk Monsters 2 Deluxe Edition (keeping the Steam version for performance) Digital
Pokemon Shield Digital, completed, 10-15 hours, 2019. 8/10
The Internet debate of whether “GameFreak lied or not” is something everyone was aware of, including people at the studio. Despite all the drama, I think Pokemon Shield did enough to take the franchise further to the experience of Pokemon. But what exactly is this “Pokemon Experience” anyway?
I’ve seen the first few seasons of the anime, played numerous games in the franchise and in my opinion, Pokemon had always been a simplistic game with one goal - collect Pokemon. The battles, story and visuals are important but they’re more of a side piece that lets players interact with their favorite creature more, after the initial “I want this cute Pokemon!”.
Speaking of battles and graphics, I thought all of these were fine. Yes, it doesn’t look comparable to a Sony exclusive technically but the visuals are pretty enough. The main issue is the reusage of models and oldschool gamedesign, something that has been with Pokemon since the first game and all the way to the 3DS.
Shield and Sword leave a lot of room for future improvements, however I think it is one of the best entries in this franchise. The game had finally managed to achieve the cutscenes that feel very close to the anime, the battles are simple but engaging and the monster collecting is as fun as it was in the previous entries.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars Digital
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury No cartridge, completed (original on Wii U), 10-15 hours. 8/10
I do feel like Mario 3D World didn’t take enough of a leap forward compared to Super Mario Galaxy or Odyssey... however, this doesn’t seem like the right thing to say. The game is very fun, going beyond the expected quality of a Nintendo game and numerous hours of joy.
Super Mario Maker 2 No cartridge, completed, 2019, 15 hours. 8/10
Unlike its predecessor (Super Mario Maker 1), the second game has its own story-mode with a set of 100 levels designed by the developers of the game. On top of that, there is an endless amount of content made by players from all over the world... which sadly is going to be lost whenever Nintendo decides to stop supporting this game. But that’s a story for another post...
Super Mario Maker 2 doesn’t just pay tribute to the old Mario games, it encourages players to be creative and to appreciate creativity, which I think is what makes Nintendo so unique. The levels created by the community are truly amazing and it feels like there is an endless amount of content here.
My only issues with Mario Maker 2 is that the multiplayer lags a lot almost always (which is important for a platformer) and that the offline non-community single-player content could have been a little more extensive.
If you like to experience other people’s ideas and visions, Mario Maker 2 is an excellent choice.
Super Mario Odyssey Cartridge, completed, 2018, 15-25 hours. 9/10
Super Mario Odyssey was my first game on Switch. I feel like it’s one of the best if not the best Mario game to date. Excellence of game systems, the feeling of adventure, never-ending surprises and things to see and discover. All of that and more can be found in Super Mario Odyssey.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (+ Joker, Hero, Pyra/Mythra, Sephiroth, Sora) Digital, completed, 2019-2021, 15-30 hours. 9/10
Smash may not be my favorite fighting game, but it is definitely one of the best fighting experiences in the genre. Sadly, a lot of fighting games just don’t get that atmosphere of a tournament right or focus too much on gameplay mechanics (especially 2D anime fighters), completely skipping the “fun” factor and little things that tie everything together into one complete experience. I’d make an example with 2D anime fighting games, a lot of which turn me off simply because they feel too raw, they may have good mechanics but if the game doesn’t let you learn itself or if it doesn’t ensure that the experience of playing it feels grandiose, then what is the point?
Super Smash Bros. is relatively simple, however the level of detail and care put into every little bit of the game, every stage and character is what ties things together and creates a unique game which goes beyond the limits of a fighting genre. Smash is a “celebration of gaming” , quoting its director, Masahiro Sakurai.
The main reason why I got into Smash were the DLC characters - Hero from Dragon Quest XI and Joker from Persona 5. While Joker wasn’t to my liking (gameplay-wise), Hero exceeded my expectations and is still one of my favorite characters to play as. Next would be Sephiroth and Sora.
All the iconic music, atmosphere and the Smash experience is something no gamer should miss out on. I do wish Ultimate had a little more single-player content, thoug, but the game is truly excellent even without it.
Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum 'n' Fun! (+ a few song packs) Digital, completed, 10-20 hours, 2019. 8/10
Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum `n` Fun was my first Taiko and I liked how diverse the track-list was, especially compared to some other rhythm games I’ve played in the past. There’s every genre: from pop to classical and even some gaming soundtracks or anime songs. The gameplay is simple yet fun., the characters are charming.
A lot of people seem to have disliked the Joy-Con controls but I actually enjoyed the game more with Joy-Con on. Of course, the most “authentic’ experience of Taiko is to play it with a drum controller and with Hard difficulty settings but it’s fun regardless of if you’re playing it with stationary joy-cons, undocked joy-cons with gyro or the drums.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Digital, completed, 50+ hours, 2018. 10/10
Along with Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was one of the first games I played on Switch. It managed to become one of my favorite JRPG of all time. The scope of the story, unique fighting mechanics, genuine characters and drama, music score, the level of care and detail put into its world and lore of the game are some of the best in gaming.
Xenoblade pushes the limits of Switch as a gaming console and delivers an emotional, thought-provoking narrative.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna - The Golden Country Digital, completed, 20-30 hours, 2020. 9/10
Torna – The Golden Country is a prequel to Xenoblade Chronicles 2 which has enough content to be considered a separate game. It’s not as impressive as the original XC2 but still manages to have a very moving story and provide an experience like no other.
I see Torna as the part of XC2, “second disc” or perhaps the “0.5 disc Intermission” if this was titled by Tetsuya Nomura.
Yoku’s Island Express Digital, completed, 2020, 5 hours. 6/10
Yoku’s Island Express is a mix of a platformer and pinball game. In order to progress through the areas, you need to collect enough points and you do that by performing pinball jumps. The visual style is unique, the game has a distinct atmosphere and the pinball inspiration is executed well.
It didn’t hold my attention enough to go through the entirety of it or want to before I marked it as “complete” but it’s still a good game nonetheless.
Yoshi’s Crafted World No cartridge, completed, 2020, 10-15 hours. 9/10
A delightful platformer with a fantastic “crafted hobby” visual style and fun platformer mechanics. It was fun to finish from start to end and I find it to be perfectly balanced: the game wasn’t too difficult or too easy. One of the best Nintendo platformers and Poochy-Yoshi duo is so adorable!
