Ok so discussion and description of suicide under the cut.
Suicidal people who are mentally ill or otherwise healthy are not the exception to the right to die. They do not lose their basic human right to bodily autonomy.
I fucking WISH that assisted suicide was something supported in my country. People who are suicidal attempt it anyway. Providing a painless end, with support and alternatives offered would be an incredible thing to do.
I wish that my cousin, when he was suicidal, had been able to go to a clinic where he was offered care and support, where he was talked through his reasons and provided solutions for them where possible. Financial aid, counselling, an honest and helpful explanation of the help he could access and assistance in accessing it.
And if he'd still wanted to die after he was offered help, then he should have been given an easy and painless method for it.
I don't understand how anybody could not want that when the alternative is what DID happen. He had no support, no recourse for his problems, no outs except for dying.
He hanged himself, and died slowly and horribly over the course of minutes. He suffered the entire time.
Why the FUCK would anybody want that for the people they love if they're suffering? Why would you not want a kinder option?
