It had been many months, many years since the last time a human had come to the park, other than the occasional teen for vandalism or pre-teen on a dare. Wind, snow, rain and un-relenting sun were in their own turns often the only visitors to Pirate’s Cove anymore, but those who still dwelled in the shadows, people who weren’t, they still had each other. A legion of souls forgotten and left behind simply because they weren’t seen as living. If you were to watch the abandoned fun grounds, you’d often see their movements as they made what type of life they could in the situation they’d been dealt.

This winter day started off seeming it would go the same as all the others until the footsteps of a stranger were made known, crunching through the snow. Curious eyes from un-moving bodies followed the figure from various locations. Those who couldn’t see were made aware by their brethren via a symbiotic and almost telepathic link, though given they were androids, it was simply a data transfer.

They all wondered who this was and what their intent could be.

Ariel’s joints ached from sitting in her office chair for 8 hours straight, only given a 30 minute break, which was also taken sitting down to eat. Numbers, numbers, numbers. Her eyes couldn’t take the screen anymore, words just weren’t making sense. 

Fortunately, it was about time for her to clock out. She packed up her supplies and paperwork in her suitcase, clocked out, and hopped into her car. She chilled out in the parking lot for a few minutes. The job wasn’t physically demanding but she felt exhausted! She looked at the display in her car waiting for a destination to be inputted. After a few more minutes, she leaned forward and typed in an address for her old family farm.

She fell asleep to get half an hour of snooze on the ride before the car stopped in front of the abandoned snow covered farm. Waking up and rubbing her eyes, she stepped out to breathe in the winter air. The city air gone, her head filled with old memories of her happiest days. She used to run around the open area and in the woods to the side of the barn. 

“Wasn’t there an old fair ground there before?”  She trekked though the forest for a few minutes until a clearing came, destroyed stands and rides covered in frost littered the area. “It’s…still here-”
