guiltskate ⤦
they were around here, somewhere. the skates that no longer filled carter’s needs, though there was nothing truly wrong with them. old and small, but not beaten or tattered. carter took care of her things, especially her skates, which granted her freedom to go wherever she wanted. rolling around, she finally opens the closet door and sees them sitting on the top shelf - pale pink with orange wheels. fond smile is given as carter reaches for them, taking them down and dusting them off, giving them a good once over. they’ve been all over hawkins, at least once or twice. carter hopes, as she makes her way back to the living room, that they’d help jane get to where she wanted to go, too.
‘ yup, they were in my closet! ’ carter flourishes them jane’s way, making a perfect stop just in front of the other girl. ‘ tuh duh! hopefully they fit. if they do, they’re yours, ’ it would be bittersweet, parting ways with the all too familiar skates that got carter through early teenhood, but she wanted jane to have them. head ushers back towards the couch. ‘ if you sit, i can help you lace them up, show you how! it’s not hard, but i know the best way to do it, ’
even with the skates not coming too close to her, jane still reels slightly back. but a smile appears on her face, amused with carter’s presentation and eagerness. nodding, she walks a step or two back towards the couch to sit and begins unlacing her own shoes. jane doesn’t take any offense to the assumption she didn’t know how to tie shoes, but maybe skate - tying was DIFFERENT. placing her shoes tidy, side by side, she looks up at carter and reaches for the skates.
“ are they hard to wear, or like shoes ? ” though some shoes she felt were restrictive, uncomfortable there was a SCALE to everything it seemed. hands grip the material the boot of the skate was made of, finding it hard, but a little pliable. the wheel was interesting too, it being harder than she expected. satisfied with her examination, jane moves down to place them on her feet, the wheel already moving when she slides her foot into it. “ woah. i think they fit. ”
