hit me, pt 1
word ct.: 2.3k, largely unedited gen: boxer!ellie x med student!reader au!!!, reader is a barista, ellie is mean (she has her reasons), reader is a pretty princess femme because i said so, also ellie says dyke (because i said so)(but not in this chapter lol) warnings: swearing/language, age diff (reader is 19 ellie is 23), drug use (alcohol), eventual smut, angst
a/n: this chapter is a kinda slow start, i mostly just wanted write some establishing dialogue type stuff. i want this to be a medium length ish fic. definitely nsfw in the future. i’m also going to (attempt) to have a more organized pov switching order? idk maybe each part switches between ellie and reader or maybe 1 switch per part? idk. lmk what u think. if you like my writing pls interact on this post or even visit my blog to submit a hc, drabble, or fic idea! requests are open
a/n 2: also, thank you sm to everyone who voted on the poll!!! will totally be doing more of those in the future
part 1.5
You were so drunk. Like, so fucking drunk. Legs wobbling and cheeks flushed, an idiot could notice how intoxicated you were. Hanging off of your friends and approaching strangers. A mess, is what you looked like. You'd learned to restrict yourself over the years, as your friends have informed you of all of the humiliating behaviors you exhibit drunk.
You weren't too worried about anything, though. It's your first night drinking in a while—you're up at university now. Rarely do you get to join Dina and her friends by actually consuming the alcohol—you usually just pass. However, tonight, you wanted to get fucked up. You wanted to forget. Fortunately Dina's a good host, and an even better friend. If anyone was going to be holding your hair back at the end of the night, it would probably be her.
The very first thought you had was holy shit, this is not Dina holding my hair. You shouldn't say 'holding', really. Whoever's hand was in your hair was gripping, hard.
"Shut up, you're fine. Here—drink. No, not sip, drink." A voice directs, bringing a cold cup of water to your mouth.
The first sip is disgusting, the stale tastes of alcohol on your tongue washing down your throat.
Oh Christ, is this one of Dina's friends? How do I not remember her? And her...huge shoulders?
"Seriously—fuckin' drink or I'll make you." The same voice says, meaner and harsher. This person talked to you like you were an animal.
The hand that clutches your hair lets go, and surprisingly gently, rakes over your head a few times to smooth it out. You absentmindedly lean into the touch, too far past the threshold to stop yourself.
The hand moves to your nape as you start to drink, cradling. Her fingers just barely reach around the sides of your neck.
You hesitantly gulp about half the glass of water before the brunette puts it back on the counter.
"Ewwww, is that sink water?" You whine, your face scrunching.
"What, it's not good enough for you? You want Fiji? Fuck is the problem?"
Her tone sobers you up for a moment, locking your eyes to the tiles. You couldn't look at someone while they yelled at you.
Slouching on the floor while she hovers over you, you pull the edges of your dress over your folded legs, only just now feeling the bareness. Your hands stay clutched in the fabric.
"Are you done now?" She says. Rudely, you think. She could've meant 'done' with your vomiting or with your complaining, you weren't quite sure.
"Yeah...I think so. Thank you. Um, really, thank you." You try to say, still feeling stuffy and weighted from all the liquor in your system. She looks at you so intensely you turn your head to escape her gaze.
"Dina asked me to." She takes a damp towel and wipes around your face. "Plus you're so drunk it's a fuckin' liability."
"I'm—m'sorry. Who are you? I've never seen you at one of Dina's...things...before, I don't think."
Her hand stills, wet rag still in it. Her eyes hold yours for a moment, closely and intensely, before darting away again.
“Yeah, you haven’t.”
She rolls up her sleeves before wiping over your collarbones and you spot her tattoo. It takes your gaze up the length of her arms, and you simply let your eyes wander over her figure for as long as you want.
"You should probably throw that dress away. Y'got shit all over it now." She states.
Well.
You look down and see that the moisture on your dress has made it completely see through. Your arm moves to drape across your chest to cover your vibrantly patterned bra and your breasts awkwardly spilling out of it.
"Come on, that's jus mean," you complain. "...ignoring me like that. Please, please, pleeease tell me your name..." Your voice is drunken, high-pitched, and definitely annoying. The woman in front of you grimaces.
"No."
"Why not?" You giggle a bit. "I'll tell you mine."
It was kind of your specialty. Annoying people. Her eyebrows shift downwards. No response.
"Hm, ok. I'll ask Dina." You say, a tiny smile trying to break through your face.
"Do it. See if I give a fuck."
"Woooaahhhh, somebody's got a bee in her bonnet! Who peed in your wheaties?"
"You did. And you're at least sixty-fucking-years-old for even saying that," She tosses the rag behind her and puts her hands on her knees to stand all the way up. "y/n."
Your face lights up an in instant. You scramble to your feet.
"How--how do you know mine? But I can't know yours!?"
"Just how it is. I have to go now." She says, throwing her khaki jacket on her back.
"But--hey, hold on, I don't have a ride home anymore! Everyone's left by now!"
"Not my problem. Call your fucking boyfriend or something." She barks, hands now defensively in her pockets.
A laugh promptly bursts out of you, and you impulsively reach out to grasp her shoulder. Your fingers brush over the collar of her jacket.
"O-kay," you quip, "hold on--cause, I don't have a boyfriend, silly," Her eyes bore into yours as your face draws even nearer. "I'm a lesbian..." You whisper giddily, as if it's something only she gets to know.
Her eyes flit away from you as her mouth purses and flattens, like she's contemplating on how to deal with you. In a moment her pupils are locked with yours again.
"Wow, so fucking special, aren't you, princess?" Her last word is a little less bold, less certain than the rest, like it wasn't entirely intentional. You blush, full body and wholeheartedly.
Princess. Princess?
Your grin widens uncontrollably, and you feel yourself giving in to the hazy pleasure of the alcoholic buzz in your blood. Your hands palm your own thighs as you speak.
"Oh...princess? I like that. I've never—I've never been...called that, before. Before now." You breathe out, eyes fluttery and tired.
She didn't snap at you immediately this time. No, instead, she begins to smile. A lazy, smug, confident smile that burns your stomach.
"You're gonna be real fuckin' embarrassed when you remember this tomorrow. Fuckin'—prissy bitch like you acting all shameless."
“You don’t know who I am,” You mutter, brushing a piece of hair behind your ear. "and this? This is not shameless. Do you wanna see shameless? What that actually looks like?" You ask, voice quiet on purpose.
"...No. Fuck no." She denies, that microscopic crack of a smile still evident on her face.
She's very pretty when she smiles. Sooooo pretty.
"You swear way too much, you know that?"
"No, I didn't fucking know that."
Her eyes don't leave yours, like she's waiting for something. Finally, something breaks.
The hand that was resting on the doorknob jiggles it open and she stands in the frame for a moment, just staring. Her compelling eyes force your words out.
"Ok but before you go. One question. Just—just one question.”
"What."
You freeze. What did you want to ask her? You remember it being something about her age.
“Well fucking spit it out. I’m trying to leave.” She urges.
Before you can even recall, another thought appears in your head.
"Okay, okay. Call me princess again? Pleeease? Just once before you go. I don't even want a ride anymore.” You take a glance at the bathroom. “I'll just...sleep… here." You whisper, a little upset thinking about how after this woman leaves, you'll be standing in this bathroom, alone.
"..."
She steps forward, mostly expressionless, pulling up the straps of your dress to cover some cleavage you didn't realize was showing. Your face heats shamefully.
She lets out a sigh.
"Dina has a pull-out in the basement. There's another bathroom down there too if y'need it. Go to bed," Her eyes scan you up and down so quickly you almost miss it. "and finish that glass of water."
With that, the door shuts behind her.
And she's gone.
_____________
You did end up talking to Dina about the person you met last night. Around noon, of course, as you both had slept through the entirety of morning.
"Wait...that's Ellie? Are you fucking serious?!" You clamor, barely comprehending what she’s saying.
The person who helped you out last night knew you, and it also happened to be Ellie. You wanted to hit yourself. Knock yourself out. Be unconscious.
"I thought you knew! She doesn't look that different."
"Dina. I haven't seen her in four years, cut me some slack. And she has like—a whole new energy now. It's....different."
She smirks at you. "...Different?"
"I—yes, different. I know I'm not wrong. I'm not."
The last time you saw Ellie, she was 19 and you were 16. You hadn't come out yet, and hung off of your asshole boyfriend's arm for as long as you could when he was around. Ellie hated the guy. You were insufferable, but Dina must've seen through it enough to befriend you. You’re eternally grateful.
Ellie is a family friend of Dina's, so naturally your paths crossed pretty frequently back then. Until two days before her 20th birthday, when she ran away only with plane tickets and a plan to 'elope' with her girlfriend of three months. They broke up a month later.
You haven't seen her since—excluding last night, of course.
"Oh—oh, fuuuuck. Dina, I know why she was so mean to me last night." Your hands reach up and you drop your face into them.
"She was mean? You didn't say that, the hell?"
"Yes—she was mean, Jesus Dina, keep up. Listen I didn't even recognize her. Like, at all. I kept asking for her fucking name, like, over and over and over again! Oh god, she probably thinks I'm such an asshole." You sulk, rerunning the things you said and did last night in your head.
"Yeah, she totally does."
"No! shut up! You're not helping. How was I supposed to--? She has these arms now, she didn't have those three years ago! And her shoulders? They're so much...wider!" You exclaim, bewildered by this entire situation.
"Hah, ok--"
You cut Dina off.
"And the tattoo, oh my god the tattoo! She's basically unrecognizable!"
"Calm the fuck down, perv. She got a new job three years ago and it just changed her a bit. She does a lot of...physical stuff, now. But she's basically the same, I swear."
"Yeah? Ok. That's...reassuring, I guess..." You say, half truthful. Dina looks at you with something you can't identify. "so...what job."
"Uhhhh—well, not my place to say. You'll...definitely have to ask her. Yourself." Dina winces, trying her best to not let out more info than she should.
"Hm. This is getting...less and less reassuring as you go on. But, thank you Dina."
"So you want her number?" She grins, holding up her phone.
"Are you kidding me." You reject. "I do not text first. You know that."
“You freak, not for that,” Dina shakes her head. “but so you guys can fucking make up and not hate each other, maybe?”
She laughs before getting right on her phone and looking for Ellie's contact.
"I'll just send your number to hers then, jeez."
"No, don't do that either. If Ellie's all upset I couldn't tell who she was, she can be a big girl and tell it to my face. And I don't even care if you tell her I said that. Honestly."
Dina looks up at you. Eyes unmoving and apathetic.
"Both of you are so fucking dramatic. Don't think I'm on your side or her's at this point. I’m completely out of this.”
She throws her phone on the couch before tossing her whole body on it as well. She grabs the remote to turn on the TV.
“Oh shit,” Dina laughs.
“What?”
“Ellie’s gonna fuckin’ flip when she finds out you’re gay now,” Dina says with an acute smile.
I already, accidentally, drunkenly told her. Problem fucking solved, you think.
“Ok? Why’s that?”
“Oh, no reason. Just, pure shock, probably.”
“Yeah, that makes sense,” You respond lightly. “…I guess she still pictures the me from highschool, right?”
“Is that your way of asking me if she still hates your ex-boyfriend? Cause yeah, trust me, she does—”
An impeding stream of knocks cut her off. You both whip your heads towards the sound.
The door swiftly opens and in steps Ellie.
Nobody speaks for a few seconds.
“…I have coffee. Thanks for leaving the door unlocked, morons,” Her leg kicks backwards and loudly shuts it. “I hope you get fuckin’ robbed one of these times.”
She walks ahead and hands a hot cup to Dina, and then, to you.
Her thumb rubs along the inside of the carabiner clipped to the loop of her jeans. There’s a smidge of silence before she looks up, only really looking at you.
“I need to show you something.”
And that’s all she says. No context, no elaboration.
“Uh—now?” You question, still in the beat up makeup from last night and hair sticking in all different directions. You couldn’t go out in public like this.
“Uh, yes, now.” She unclips the carabiner and spins it around her pinky. “Let’s go.”
“But what if—what if I have plans?”
“Do you?”
“Well no, but I’d like to at least—”
“Jesus Christ both of you are like this? Here: your hair looks great, your makeup is perfect, your boobs are huge. Can we fucking leave now?” She tells you, completely causing you to forget anything you were saying.
In a moment of panic, you glance at Dina.
Her eyebrows and shoulders only give a limp shrug, as if to say, ‘I don’t know what this is about, but you’re on your own!’
Naturally.
“Yeah, we can leave,” you take a sip of your coffee. “…Ellie.”
The second you say her name, her head is turned to you. Her eyebrows creasing and eyes unwilling to break your gaze. So now you know what the stare was about.
You wonder if your cluelessness last night genuinely hurt her. Made her feel unwanted. Unknown. You felt like shit. You just hope she doesn’t feel similar as you do right now.
She says nothing.
And in that silence, with Ellie cutting in front to get the door for you, you leave.

But can we talk about how fucking good the writers are at making Ellie smart without making her annoying or overly-precocious? Because that whole lead up to her confrontation with Maria was brilliant.
First you have the fact that Ellie's more emotionally intelligent than Joel, and clocks almost immediately Maria has a problem. And her most immediate concern is that that problem could potentially separate her from Joel, who is the only person she feels a sense of safety with, and whom Ellie knows to be better than the worst thing he's ever done, which is all Maria knows of him.
So you get to the lunch scene, where Ellie isn't just displaying that she's been influenced by him. Oh no, this girl is actively tribing up, because that's what people do. She's silently telegraphing to Maria that she likes Joel's way better. And Maria, who is also smart, knows this is what Ellie is doing. And Ellie knows Maria knows what she's doing. Which culminates in the hair cutting scene.
And boy is Ellie ever ready for that. Because the second Maria realizes she's going to have to be direct, Ellie comes at her with the truth to end all truths, which is that her fully grown husband who is capable of making his own choices did the same shit Joel did, and that passing the buck off on Joel was bullshit. At least Joel's behavior was influenced by a massive trauma response that absolutely shattered his psyche. What was Tommy's excuse? That Ellie was able to anticipate all this and have all the appropriate responses on deck made me really miss Tess, because she would have LOVED that shit. That was a woman who could appreciate a good bit of social engineering when she saw it. The way she could talk down or weaponize Joel at a moment's notice was insane. And incredibly attractive. Her and Joel are the red flags of my dreams... I swear to god.
Anyways, I digress. My point is HBO really needs to be commended for finally cracking the code on how to write a smart teenager that isn't annoying as hell.

she made it known she didn’t care for you. anytime someone mentioned your name around her, she would shut the conversation quickly as possible. and you weren’t a hatable person. you didn’t know what made you so different.
it hurt. you hung around her enough to think she liked you. so, what was different?
but she enjoyed your vulnerability. specifically in the bed. you moaned her name too perfectly to let you be with someone else. no one else should have the opportunity to hear you.
“i don’t like her.” “ellie, your opinions in my love life mean nothing.” “as a friend, i have a right to say something.” “you don’t even treat me like a friend.” “what makes her different from me?” “well, she isn’t afraid to be around me in public. and she actually kisses me.” you taunt her, pouting your lip, before grabbing your bag to leave for your date.
even though you didn’t tell her where you were meeting with this girl, she still found you. and she watched you. watched you laugh with the girl. she actually made you happy. but ellie knew she could do better. she scoffs, placing a cigarette between her lips.
***
“you daniella?” ellie walks up to your date, body tense. “yes?” ellie’s fist caves in daniella’s stomach, making her yelp and fall to the ground. “what…the fuck…” she wheezes. “daniella!” you run over to her, seeing ellie not long after. “we gotta run. the cops will come. i’ll text you later or something. i’m sorry.” you take ellie’s hand, leaving the scene. before leaving, you heard daniella whisper “don’t even bother.”
“what the fuck was that for?!” you hit your dashboard, turning to ellie. “i wanted to see if she could fight. we already know the answer.” she laughs. “it’s not funny. i like her and she liked me.” “she wasn’t worth it.” “oh, and you are?” “damn right.”
the truth was, ellie didn’t like hearing your name because she knew she wouldn’t be able to control herself at the thought of you. she felt like she was the only one to be able to talk about you.
“ellie…” “i could do the shit she did that made you fucking giggle and more. i’m worth it.” her hand was places on yours, heating up your body. “you don’t even act like you’re interested in me.” “you’d be surprised.”

If you were a waiting room I would never see a doctor, I would sit there with my first-aid kit and bleed
ellie williams x reader | you hate waiting for ellie to come back to you, bloody and bruised.
tw : blood, fluff, cringe nicknames, i think that’s it
Perhaps you were irrational, perhaps all the thoughts swimming inside your head like koi fish dancing their deft routine in the opaque waters of japan held no sensible foundation.
Ellie was strong, stronger than even her name might suggest. And you knew of her power, you’d had seen it all firsthand in the two years you had spent with her.
So why, after all this time, did you still shudder in fright as the broken clock ticked away the time, skipping seconds as it did until the reality that Ellie may not come back finally settled into your stomach, dropping like lead and carving out a cavity in merciless digs.
One tick.
You couldn’t help the bouncing in your leg nor control the teeth piercing your bottom lip as the clock passed another minute, it’s pearly face taunting you. When Ellie had said there was business to attend to with Abby the sun had just begun to rise - you could still remember how it flitted through her auburn hair and changed the hue from autumn leaves to gold - and now its brilliant beams had dulled into orange, yellow and bronze tints.
Two Ticks.
Whateve rold record was drowning on in the background had been long forgotten as another tick of the clock passed by, leaving you to stand up and began the now nightly ritual you’ve grown accustomed to. You started the pacing slowly, each step carefully measured to match your breathing in a futile attempt to calm the tremors in your hands and the jitters in your legs. You allowed your mind to drift back to hours prior, Ellie’s hands tracing small reassuring figures across your arms and wrists as she mumbled sweet nothings with the promise to come home. But what if she didn’t keep that promise?
Three Ticks.
A resounding creak ricocheted against the creme-colored walls, chafing from the wooden door as it slid with great clamor against the kitchen tile; an all too familiar noise. You found the feeling something akin to scalding water from a shower spigot coursing down your body and washing away the grime after a strenuous day of work with blushing suds and wax candles.
You stopped your movements abruptly, your breath lodged into your throat as a figure slowly dragged themselves from the parlor into the main room. Peaks of auburn hair sprouted out of a black hoodie and a Smith & Wesson Model 27 revolver poked from the waistband of black tattered jeans. You hated that you knew the exact model your girlfriend used, hated how normal it felt to see a gun in the belt of the woman you so deeply had fallen for. But God did you love seeing Ellie in one piece.
“Ellie” You don’t even attempt to hide the pure relief coursing through your body like adrenaline, filling your veins with enough momentum to race across the living room and envelope Ellie in a hug. It was light, your arms barely brushing Ellie’s as you examined the woman’s body, eyes sizing up the injuries she’d sustained in what she promised to be ‘just a meeting’.
A small purple bruise covered her knuckles, each crease adorned with wine red blood that had dried from the bitter weather. A thin line of red was pressed against Ellie’s neck, remnants of her own blood she’d clearly tried to clean off still poking through the flesh.
Still, despite the few cuts and bruises covering her skin you thanked yourlucky stars the woman had managed to come back in one piece. You let out the breath you’d held all night and buried your head into the nook of Ellie’s neck, finally tightening your hold after deeming the injuries to be fixable with a few bandages. You nuzzled against the soft skin, inhaling the earth and gun powder scent that always lingered on her pale skin, another inhale revealed a new scent, one entirely Ellie that you could only seem to describe as the the apricity.
“I’m okay, I’m fine, I promise.” Ellie cooed, the taut muscles she’d kept on guard all-day relaxing under the weight of your affectionate embrace, your warm skin welcomed after being in the December air all day. Kicking the door shut Ellie finally reciprocated the hug, encompassing the you in her arms a bit tighter than necessary, almost as though if she didn’t clutch on you might vanish into thin air, almost as though you would leave her.
Sighing, you pulled back for a moment, doe eyes shifting into a mock-glare before your arm gave a harmless smack to Ellie’s shoulder, lips shifting to match your eyes with a rather childish pout, “I was worried sick!”
“That’s cause you have the immune system of a baby,” The words held a tease she reserved solely for you, one that almost always elicited some sort of reaction from you but still held the fondness Ellie had whenever speaking to her girlfriend.
“You are unbelievable!” you huffed, shooting a glare at Ellie- though the quirk of your lips quickly refuted your hard eyes - and unraveling your body from hers, “To think I was planning to make cookiessalad tomorrow."
Ellie’s eyes went wide at the notion you were presenting and in an instant the girl had her head bowed and hands clapped together in a pleading stance, “I’m so sorry for being late,”
“You’re just teasing me now!”
“I am not!”
“Argh, you are the worst!” You tilt your chin up and to the left, opening your mouth to continue with the harmless threats only for Ellie to take the opportunity to steal a kiss.
Her lips were cool, no doubt still warming up after the long night in the frigid air, but you leaned into the touch all the same. She tasted addicting. It was a drug and you were certainly an addict. Ellie’s scent overwhelmed you and you couldn’t help but wrap your arms around Ellie, reaching up to your tippy toes and nuzzling your noses, an action that made the girl swallow a chuckle deep in her throat.
Kissing you was different than any other feeling Ellie had come across, it was soft and tender, as though if you pushed too hard, touched too much, you would shatter Ellie into a thousand little shards. But then again that might have had some truth behind it. Around you, Ellie had come to realize she was fragile. Delicate and vulnerable to every little motion, every intimate touch.
Reluctantly you pulled away, your eyes lingering with a stary smog on the woman who always managed to make you feel like putty, and focused your attention on the injuries Ellie had sustained, “You were not careful Ellie, you told me you would be!” you let your lips fall into a pout, left hand poking the non-bruised cheek in an attempt to annoy her.
It didn’t seem to work as Ellie stared down at your hand affectionately, catching it with ease mid-poke and pressing soft caresses to the pads of each finger. This appeared to be a winsome gesture to anyone looking in on the outside, but you knew this tactic far too well. Ellie would distract you with sappy behavior like kissing your knuckles or nuzzling into your neck, you would blush profoundly and all would be pardoned.
That was what transpired on a usual night.
Tonight was not usual.
So instead of swooning at the response you simply disregarded it. (Despite the warmth flooding into your stomach, pooling like the honey from Ellie’s lips and hardening like the sugar that danced across her cupid’s bow.) At the pure bewilderment printed across Ellie’s face, you had to bite your lip in an effort to conceal your budding grin of amusement.
“Come, let’s go clean your cuts.” Pulling him to the kitchen you situated her dumbfounded body onto one of their wooden chairs, “I’ll get the first aid kid and you will sit right here and not move.”
This seemed to break Ellie from her trance, her eyes refocusing just in time to grab your arm before you made it to the cabinets. A sudden urge to explain how much you meant to her was overwhelming, “You know I love you, Birdie?”
“I love you too, now sit back down,” your voice was barely a whisper and the blush around your ears at the nickname didn’t go unnoticed, “We need to bandage your neck before an infection can get in.”
Folding her hand for this round Ellie nods, allowing her girlfriend to scurry off and retrieve the small white container with a variety of collected and tattered stickers they had decorated it with. This had become a frequency in the household. Ellie would come home bruised and you would fuss over the minor injuries with great conviction before ultimately patching her up.
“That shirt is still stupid,” Ellie tutted, eyeing the small embroidered bird stitched across your light pink sweater. A sweater Ellie had come to learn as your all-time favorite by the sheer abundance you would wear it.
“You are stupid,” you didn’t look up, so focused on cleaning off her knuckles you missed the bright smile Ellie was giving you, instead, pressing feather-light to the wounds with the small disinfectant. You knew it would take longer this way, but you simply couldn’t bear watching Ellie in pain, “Besides you have admitted to liking my shirt don’t think you can trick me.”
That was true, Ellie had grown fond of the bird sweater and the familiar scent of you it always seemed to radiate. But then again, Ellie had grown fond of everything that had even the smallest correlation to you.
You didn’t need to know this though.
“Birdie you really don’t need to do this…” Ellie looked off shyly, “it’s just a few cuts and I feel bad making you patch me up every time I get hurt. You do enough already.”
“I hardly do a thing, all I do is cook and clean and make soap for the town. Just allow me to help.” you ducked your head in distress as you resumed wrapping the bruised hand in cloth bandages.
Pulling your hand away slowly Ellie tilted your face upwards, pressing a gentle kiss into the center of your forehead, affectionate and tender. “Sweethear, just staying with me is more than I could ever ask of you.”
With a sigh of contentedness, you nod, burrowing your body deeper into the security of Ellie’s arms.
