adam parrish being just a little villain-coded is so fun to me. it never stops tickling me that the set-up WAS THERE for him to betray gansey in a worse version of the story — he was the rejected member of the love triangle, he was bitter about gansey's privilege, he's methodically ambitious about getting his in a dog-eat-dog world. in TRB, when he stole the camaro, ran off and killed whelk, that COULD'VE been the beginning of a villain arc.
but he loves his friends too much to let them go, and his friends love him too much to let him go. so he's their fucked-in-the-head sly friend who blackmails people with made-up child murder and scams rich harvard students with fake readings and pathologically lies like he breathes <3 something so wrong with him but he's a good guy <3
Obsessed with that argument in dream thieves where blues like “no woman will ever let you behave like this” and then adams like “fuck you this is just how I am it’s not my fault you don’t like me” bc the next thing he does is go and date a man so I guess they were both right
sorry for raven boys posting in 2021 but i’ve been THINKING ABT the scene where adam takes another tarot card and like decides to change his fate like ok very adam moment but also at the end of trb he literally changes his fate by changing the character he is in the story. like gansey is the Main Character who is following the hero’s journey steps and adam is introduced to EVERYONE including the reader as like. gansey’s bestie <3 like obviously he’s a great character but his role in the story is gansey’s bestie <3. and then he LITERALLY steals gansey’s car and figuratively usurps gansey’s role in the story as the main character by going 2 cabeswater and making the sacrifice at the end of trb like that was GANSEY’S quest, gansey’s logical next character moment, gansey’s storyline as The Guy and adam is like wait no i can be the guy. i am the guy. and then he IS the guy! incredible
