Along with her confidence and desire to protect, Felina’s mask grants her the opportunity to be the heroine she had always dreamed of becoming.

As a child, Felina loved superhero movies and dreamed of becoming one.

Her favourite pastime was to fight imaginary villains, and she would sleep with her trusty toy sabre. It led to a huge burst of enthusiasm when she witnessed a robbery on the streets. However, her warning had little effect and she was shoved to the ground when the thief made their escape. After that, Felina kept all her toy swords and guns into a box and never opened it.

She grows up meekly, not once revisiting the idea of being a heroine again. When she sees posters of the fencing club at school, she ignores the spark of interest inside her, deeming herself unworthy to wield a sabre.

During a sudden storm, Felina finds shelter in a park gazebo. Through the sound of rain and crashing thunder, she hears a scream and sees someone being mugged at knife point right outside the gazebo.

Knowing that no one else would be able to hear the victim, Felina feels burdened by the fact that she might be the only person who can help. The memory of her weakness, of when she was thrown helplessly to the ground, races through her mind and paralyzes her. What if she fails again? What if worse things happened?

Another desperate scream for help breaks Felina out of her daze and casts her doubts aside. She remembers that her childhood heroes aren’t heroes only because they are strong, but because they took action and believed in their cause.

With renewed confidence, Felina takes a sure step towards the thief and a mysterious mask appears before her.

“I’ll be a voice, not an echo.”

Nightingale resolves to be strong and kind, to prove that one can find joy that isn’t at the expense of others.

Words can cut sharper than a sword.

In school, Nightingale was at the receiving end of that sword. She was often the target of teasing and jeering, no one stood up for her and she didn’t speak up for herself either. Even though she felt scared and horrible inside, her silence came across as nonchalance that spurred more unkind words.

When rumours about one of her bullies sparked, Nightingale took it as a chance to save herself—repeating it word for word to whoever might listen. It spread like wildfire and Nightingale soon found that she was no longer the target of ridicule.

The bully is soon ignored by those who were once her friends, sitting alone and staring blankly at her vandalized desk during recess, and becoming a shell of her former self as the days went by. It isn’t until the bully becomes absent from school for over a week that Nightingale realizes what she has become.

A person who hurt others with words, just like she was hurt before.

She might have still found some form of strength then, but it didn’t mean everyone could. Despite what her bully had done before, she was hurting now all the same.

Horrified and disappointed at herself, Nightingale makes a resolve to right her wrongs. Planning to apologise, she decides to first start by cleaning up the other’s vandalized desk.

When she is done, she looks up and jumps in surprise to see a mask floating above her own desk.

“Can’t give up here!”

Titan’s mask appears as he is filled with determination, aiding him to overcome difficulties and to reach for his goals.

Holding on has never been Titan’s forte.

When he struggled to keep up in his studies, Titan skipped classes. On the occasions when his group of friends got into fights, Titan would always be the first to run. They always joked about whether he was a lazy genius when it came to avoiding trouble, or just a coward who constantly looked for the easiest way out.

Upon graduating, he fell into a pattern of moving from job to job, trying out whatever he could and leaving when it got difficult. Even when he lands a job as a construction worker, he considers quitting immediately when he is warned for cutting corners in his work.

What he doesn’t expect is to be offered a home-packed dinner by his team’s captain instead of getting fired. The older worker mentions that his wife would never fail to prepare his meals and Titan mumbles that it must be nice to have encouragement for work. Laughing heartily, his captain explains that he had been working diligently before meeting his wife, because he wanted to provide for his family in the future. “Encouragement might help one reach their goals, but one definitely needs perseverance to get to the finish line,” he adds.

Before leaving work that night, there is a loud crack. Turning back to see his captain staring in horror at a breaking beam, Titan rushes to hold it up. Realizing that it is caused by careless work, he tells his captain to get help as he continues to support the heavy beam.

Struggling under the weight, Titan realises that he can run away all he wants but there would be consequences to his actions. Some lighter, and some more dire and painful.

Despite the crushing weight, he decides not to give up this time.

As his arms threaten to break, a mask materializes before him and he feels a rush of adrenaline.
