i’ve decided to move roh (as well as iru/ill and majora) to a multimuse side blog here for a slightly fresh start. it’s low-activity and sliiightly private in that i don’t expect to gain a lot of new followers, but i miss writing for these muses and/or would like to give them more of a chance

I know you still aren't planning on retiring and all, but I think this still is an important question to ask. When you eventually search for an apprentice, what type of training will you give them? I'm assuming you'd need to be even more careful with this one, to avoid another Zamasu situation. Have you thought of a way to correctly judge possible future kais?

“Yeah, it’s an important question, but I don’t see how it’s any of your business, Anon. Or, you know, anyone’s other than mine.”

So quick to resort to combative skepticism, he realizes, and it’s undoubtedly because he’s ashamed at being caught unprepared, at the revelation that he’s given this concern precious little thought before this inquiry. In response, perhaps as an indirect concession that his immediate response was uncalled for, he goes quiet and appears to give the inquiry genuine consideration.

In all honesty, he’s occasionally thought to himself that there will be no apprentice, that perhaps it is Universe 9′s fate to always be saddled with the inexperienced, put-upon overseer, but guilt typically floods in if he lingers too long on that potentiality.

The topic of Universe 10′s mishap does little to bolster his mood, either. He’s such a metaphorical monkey wrench, a frustrating anomaly (though perhaps less of an anomaly than Roh would personally like to believe). The notion, too, of being the one in Gowasu’s shoes is one that leaves him acutely disquieted. He’d enjoyed the old kai’s companionship, once. In a time long past, he’d believed Gowasu to be quite wise. Even now, he has a perhaps calming, clear-eyed presence that Roh is only too quick to ignore, much less admit to aloud.

“Gowasu did everything he was supposed to,” Roh admits, perhaps unusually fairly, his normal quick contempt considered. “You can’t quantify character traits like cold, hard data— something will always surprise you. People are too complicated and odd.”

Well, now he’s getting off-topic. He gathers his thoughts again. Restarts.

“...there’s always going to be complications that you didn’t plan for, and there’s always going to be parts of someone you’re never going to know, so it’s best to throw your expectations of perfection out now.” Sharply accusatory. It seems he can’t rid himself of all his old habits for a faceless stranger’s sake. “Much as it irritates me to say it, ‘correctly’ is how it’s been done since time immemorial. One instance of a bad egg rising through the ranks doesn’t discredit the whole system.”

“Even if it did blow up to such a spectacular degree…” Muttered under his breath as he glowers off into the distance.

Weird question, but... Is Sidra's race extinct? Has it evolved? Or hasn't it progressed or regressed in any meaningful way? I'm guessing Sidra never destroyed them bc that probably be painful af, but idk maybe they died some other way like. A super meteor.

“Destroyers being made to do away with what was once their own home isn’t nearly as unusual as you might think it is.” And then, seconds later, once it registers that even with that monition, Sidra likely comes across as far too soft-hearted and sentimental to do such a thing, Roh lazily flaps the hand that isn’t curled under his chin, eyes averted.

“…in any case, Sidra’s particular race– what’s left of it, anyway– is still eking out an existence on planet Galubey, previously known as planet Belo, and Belom before that. There’s a substantial number of nomadic civilizations in Universe Nine, and they’re one of them.” Here he scowls, however, more at what he’s personally hearing in the anon’s words than what had actually been said. “Of course it’s evolved at least a little. A universe would have to be wholly lifeless to not progress at least by accident.”

His universe is stagnant, though, he reminds himself silently, and that outsiders have good reason to look at it and make such assumptions sits about as well with him as a block of fermented bean curd.

“Galubey has changed throughout the generations– the most significant and pressing of which is an unusual improvement in soil quality and a gradual change in the atmosphere’s makeup. The two are likely connected. Obviously, this has led to a number of developments and enhancements in the inhabitants of the planet, as well. Notably, their agricultural methods have advanced, and… well, their appearances and physiology is markedly changed.” For a nomadic race on a poor planet, and one situated in Universe Nine, at that, they really aren’t doing half-bad, he notes to himself.

And so, quietly, in a tone of voice that demonstrates that Roh has never quite entertained this train of thought before, he muses, “The remaining members of Sidra’s race probably wouldn’t recognize him as one of their own by this point.”

To himself, again, he wonders which is the more tragic fate– to be left with no choice but to destroy one’s old home or to be rendered little more than a distant echo of myths to those who linger on.
