Dear @sgiandubh you are spot on as alway. BTW I do hate Okra - tell your mate I’ll meet her tomorrow at the producers & manufacturers gate - I’ll bring the megaphone! 🤪
It’s Hate Season!
You can tell there is movement in the Outlander world. Increased PR, interviews, photos, events and the creeping presence of BOMB, the New Batch. Even Sam has been deployed to keep them away from the light, water or post-midnight snacking.
But the main factor in the upcoming frenzy of 7B is the absolute nastiness coming back into the fandom. And I have the majority of the evil Mordor inhabitants blocked.
They can’t help themselves. Contradicting anything said on this side of the fandom - not just an “I disagree” but a full-on “you are a brainless, moronic, stupid asshole and I'm right and you most definitely are not - you mindless plank” tirade.
And their favourite subject - “ Sam is a nasty, superior grifter. His real personality is one of a narcissistic, brainless opportunist and he has no business acumen. What’s more, Alex is creepy and just using him - Sam is so stupid, he doesn’t realise he’s being led as he doesn’t have the brain to see it”. And on and on. Even bringing up fish-gate, Covid-gate and any other perceived slip he’s made in the last 10 years.
I’ve asked before - why are they in this fandom - any part of it? It’s all very well having a different POV but these people are damn right evil. Our side of the fandom can be brutal but I’ve never seen anywhere near the absolute hate, nastiness and evil diatribe from this side.
How can you go through your life with such feelings and beliefs and be at peace with yourself - how do you look in the mirror and like what you see, what you are, what you stand for?
What is wrong with them or should I say what is right with them?

@sgiandubh 😂😂Mean girl creeping in again - I hope you’re right!!!
BOMB - Will it?
So, the New Batch is being let out into the light. We see them - like a poor man's copy - celebrating with cake at the Table Read - familiar ground. The character and actor share a birthday. Photo opportunity achieved. Next.
SM is beginning to up the profile of the cast and they are beginning to talk about the new Outlander, sorry, BOMB. Ms Balfe opines that we will soon forget her as the presequel is launched upon the vulnerable fans.
How long will BOMB last? We all know how it ends for ALL the characters. Will they start with the characters at a pre-pre sequel, age 5 so a Series 2 can be achieved?
I don’t know - I’m uncomfortable about the new lookalike batch. They are following an iconic show and, unlike Mr Heughan, I just can't with this show. Not yet.
I’ll probably be eating my words when it becomes a huge phenomenon and I’m feeling the story and characters. Only I won’t. Because I’m still having a temper tantrum and stamping my feet and screaming until I’m sick. I won't watch it, I won't watch it, I won't!!!
But, I probably will. At least the first episode. It’s not the actor's fault. I’m sure they are delighted to have this opportunity. They know how iconic OL is. How big Sam and Caitriona have become. How many doors this may open? So, my mean girl state of mind, my cutting off my nose to spite my face - it must stop!
I’m just not there yet!

@michezsstuff its gratifying to know I'm not alone in this! Looking at other sites I began to think im just being a sourpuss as they all seem so excited! Like you, I feel it's just taking advantage of the OL fans. I'm actually quite angry that we have to wait until November -especially if this is to accommodate BOMB!

@sgiandubh - Friends and heroes! Perfect for you my friend. I look forward to your stories, mad postman next, please!
But first, time to say good-bye
It was to be a late departure (bureaucracy will someday kill us all...) from Athens, an endlessly diverted way North through a very early summer and some fitful sleep near the border, where poppies were already in bloom and elusive to the camera:
Tumblr media
I promised to share with you my story with Mycenae the day I would leave Greece for good. Yesterday was the day, so here goes.
I first went to Mycenae on a horrendously rainy day, in November 2018. The place struck me as a haphazard settlement of sorts in the wake of some ancient apocalypse, which was absolutely correct. We stayed in my colleague from Culture and Press' car, munched on some horribly stale koulouria as all hell broke loose outside, when she finally told me: ' you know what, I am happy we made it here: in Mycenae, you can only hear and tell the truth, you know'.
I have to say I ogled in suspicion. I was wet, hungry and completely unused to the Greek way of dressing everything up in mythology. She spoke Greek as I speak French and knew perfectly well what she was doing. She was casting a spell - an unbreakable one, for which I will forever be grateful. Oh, and as all myths would have it, the Lion Gate was closed, by the time we arrived.
It took me almost two years to go back there, during the pandemic, scared summer of 2020, when everything was empty and glorious to fully take in, like a big gulp of colors and sounds and life. My digs were to be always the same: unassuming Petite Planète, the last B&B in town, a stone throw away from Agamemnon's treasury, owned by the Dassis clan of archaeologists.
Their story begins in Constantinople, around 1875, when Konstantinos, a young orphan, begged Heinrich Schliemann to take him along to wherever he was traveling. He quickly became indispensable and helped with the first digs in Mycenae. He was the one who found Agamemnon's mask:
Tumblr media
When the digging was over, Schliemann bought him a tiny house for two pence and a half and told him to stay there. 'Many people will come to visit and they will need food and a roof. Make sure you do your best and it will make you a rich man.'
And they came. In droves. If you ask nicely, V. will show you their reception rosters, safely tucked away in a bank vault, in Argos. I had the privilege to see Virginia Woolf's signature and I was stunned. Schliemann's two pence house is now doubled by a garish modern addition you can see from the main road as La Belle Hélène B&B ('my cousin Agamemnon is a greedy idiot', says V), but Schliemann's room is piously kept as it was when the strange German gentleman left them to their fate. As is, they did not become rich, but that does not matter. You will always find a place at their wonderful table, where Mamma Dassis cooks the same food they ate back in Constantinople and they would not have it otherwise. The new, bigger and better B&B is called Petite Planète because of V's father undying passion for Saint Exupéry's Little Prince. It permeates everything without being obtrusive, because sometimes 'the essential is invisible to the eye'.
Back in 2020, they were worried. Very worried. The Lion Gate was open again, but the 'cretins at Google' wouldn't have it and kept on listing it as closed, on their maps. People were canceling their bookings. The village stood unusually quiet and forlorn.
I made no promises. But I did phone some people at the Greek Ministry of Culture. The least person I expected to be of any help, H, a transparent, mousey freeloader, who was always the last to leave all of our events in the hope we'd take her to dinner in town, happened to be some sort of underling at the Archaeological Sites Department. She immediately understood what I wanted her to do.
Three days after I left Mycenae, on my road trip to the Mani peninsula, I received this message in my Booking inbox:
Tumblr media
This started it all. And from that moment, all my Greek roads will lead there. It's also been a long time since I have trouble forcefully paying them for my monthly stays (booking and paying in advance helps, though), something they adamantly refused last time I went there:
'G., the girl wants to pay.'
'This is ridiculous, of course. This girl is family.'
Someday, I just know I will be back. For good.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After five years and a half, many more fabulous stories (Mycenean potter and poet, anyone? mad postman? Kyria Stamatoula and her goats? Kyrios Pandelis and his jams?) the only thing I know about Greece is that, for all its (many) misgivings, this land is about two things:
Friends and Heroes.

The Eternal Malcontent
So folks, are we happier now ye olde PR wagon has set out on its long road to 7B? Only 7 months to go…..how will they keep the momentum up?
After much complaining, suddenly we get a whole load of Outlander PR /events in one lump. Does this mean that they’ve blown their PR budget in one go, or will we get more as the months slip by?
The Landcon seemed successful even tho it was missing one of the leads, sorry, can’t remember her name. You know, the one whose always wandering off. Guess she did it again!
McGrandma was also missing, can’t think why. Sam continues to be the driving force behind all things Outlander/fandom related and is front and centre of what must have become a bit of a chore after all this time. He remains upbeat, answering the same old and smiling through it all. His fans seem as enthusiastic as ever but I do wonder at the inclusion of Cree who is an irritating bellend. And that’s being polite. Still, with two very obvious non attendees, I guess they had spare accommodation.
They’ve also dropped the odd vid with Sam and Caitriona and some press pieces. Like buses, its all come at once.
So are we now back to Droughtlander? Will they now start pushing BOMB? Sam seems all for the younger actors stepping up. Which is nice but how can one guy be so bloody magnaminous?
If I had a team, I’d like him to be on it.

Tour of Scotland with McGrandma? Anyone?
Fans are free to spend their hard-earned in any way they want. If spending £8000 plus to go to Scotland and spend one night listening to McGrandma then who am I to try and stop you?
Would I spend money on this? Well no, I wouldn’t! Graham McGrandma is taking the piss IMHO. How he has the brass neck to sell this tour is beyond me. Does he have such pulling power? Is he so popular that fans would pay these prices to see him for one night? Am I missing something? I’ve always thought he portrayed Dougal well, he was quite amusing as Sam’s stooge in MIK although occasionally I felt his snark was more a reflection of his true feelings towards Sam than said for laughs. I remember in the very early days him saying he was not thrilled when Sam got the part of Jamie. Perhaps he thought he was better suited!
I never cared one way or the other if he was due to appear at an Outlander event. I didn’t take any more notice of him than the other cast members whom I had little interest in - Sophie, Richard, etc. I preferred the talented Steven Walter - whose rendition of Handsome Bastard Blues still has me giggling! I think it’s still on YouTube if you’ve missed it.
So what is Grandma's appeal? Why would he believe his name will sell bourbon in any great amounts - or attract fans to spend £8000 plus airfares to go on a tour of Scotland you can do for half that money, including flights?
When he’s merching, his likes are up in the thousands - when he’s not merching - usually just a small amounts of likes - I suppose this is just a sales and advertising technique but if his popularity is so low, how can he sell booze and holidays - especially at those prices - and expect a profit?
Who is advising him? Why does he believe he is such a big banana? I really am interested to know what I'm missing. Anyone have some insight? I'm at a loss.

Caitriona’s exxxy at home laser gadget doesn’t seem so unseemly right now.
If at first you don’t succeed, try again.
Back to the future from a few years ago when Graham first attempted to front an OL fan experience/experiment with a price tag of $10K.
Will he get fans to spend 10 days without an appearance from JAMMF?
Good luck Dougal Graham.

Human nature
We don't have to agree with everything I do believe and regularly post on Tumblr, as far as SC are concerned. And, for your information, I strive to bring every day something new or different, based on either facts or my personal life experience (it's often informing, I think). Not an easy task, but it should explain why I do not reblog very often and if I do, that means the reblog perfectly expresses my thoughts on the matter.
I can even take a disagreement, calmly and almost flatly exposed with facts, not whimsical twists to fit an agenda. Yet, I find it extraordinary that the worst liars in here will tell you everything they say is based on precisely that: FACTS. As for all propaganda, I find their interpretation both ethically wanting and intellectually insulting.
Anti blogs never impressed me (is that a sin? perhaps) with their depth, knowledge or morality. I found only power games, trolling, stalking, smirk, insults piled upon injury and parroting. Not a pretty sight. That Spanish woman opened the fire squad immediately upon my landing in here, with such preposterous assumptions about who I was (surprise, bitch), that all dialogue perspective was cut from the start. Her prerogative to be openly idiotic. My prerogative to despise her and others of her ilk. She was, however, instrumental in my not giving a rat's ass about whatever they would have to say on the Big Issue at stake. Ever.
The more and more it goes and the more I do believe what you think of Their Story is very telling about who you really are, the life that you chose to live and the values you hold near and dear. Or lack thereof.
I chose my side after a very long, tedious pondering and I am not going anywhere else. Whether you like it or not. Also, the Antis assumption that all shippers believe the same things is a lame, very cheap fallacy. Despair and grasping at straws: mark me.

Sams's mother has been alone for some time now and Im sure she would not influence him to stay in Scotland if that's not what he wants. His house in Lala land is, as you say, a work base. He prefers NY but it depends on so many things, doesn't it? Its a dilemma!
More Musings….
I feel so blessed. I don’t have the excitement of foreign travel now but I am living in my home country - my relatives are slowly being removed by death - but my essence is still here. My parents are buried here, and my brothers gravitated back here -a mixed blessing!
The strange thing is, I felt no love for my birth country for a very long time. I did feel a huge affinity with Scotland and lived there for a time. I love Ireland - both countries are my grandma’s heritage.
Wales came about by accident. I came to look after my mother - and ended up staying. Mainly because I had nowhere else I wanted to go!
All this made me wonder about Sam and Caitriona and their “roots”.
Sam has made Scotland home, hasn’t he? Will he remain there when OL is finished? Will he go to New York or California?
Caitriona? I think her preference will be the US as she seems to gravitate towards the Hollywood scene. So where will they go?
Sam has his not-so-secret home which seems devoid of anything family-related. Caitriona has a doer upper which seems to have 🧛🏻‍♂️ involved in the restoration work - is this a tomorrow home or a buy-to-sell?
Why is she investing in Scotland when she seems to prefer the USA or London? Does Sam live alone in his very well-known “private” home? Devoid of “family” trappings, I do wonder if it’s an investment and used for PR but nothing else.
I’m curious. If this couple have a plan after OL - how will they work it?
As ever, this is another speculative post, musings and random thoughts hobbled together when my brain is set free from the rigours of everyday matters. Sitting, looking over the fields, the lambs, the mountains, the bloody rain!
I’m home. When and where will Caitriona and Sam be able to say the same?
