One of the most famous brand of ear plugs available today are Macks ear plugs from McKeon products. There ear plugs are nowadays sold worldwide and are renowned for their high quality and range of usage. The earplug range has been designed to help with sleeping, swimming, music, work ware as well as other applications.
When an aspiring symphonic orchestra musician named Raymond Benner stumbled upon a retiring pharmacist, he had no idea that the pharmacist's earplug business he bought for his wife will become his life's most important work. He paid some two thousand dollars for the company, taking over the McKeon Products, Inc. This company had only one product that was being sold, Mack's Earplugs.
The moldable clay mixture of earplugs was not perceived to be sufficiently water proof to be used as swimming earplugs by Benner. Benner was an enthusiastic swimmer. He would have loved to use some swimming earplugs in order to prevent ear infections, predominantly the outer ear infections known as the swimmer's ear; furthermore he hated when his ears got clogged by water. So he went on to experiment with production techniques, a little bit more of this, some less of that, and suddenly he found himself with a more sticky, moldable substance, which he felt could be the world's first swimming earplugs, moldable silicone earplugs.

They looked like little fluffy pillows, so Cecilia, his wife and Raymond decided to call the new product Mack's Pillow Soft Earplugs. The instant success was not really expected, and the expanding business went on from being just a simple basement to eight manufacturing facilities. Raymond, who did play for several classical symphony orchestras, most prominently in Cleveland and Detroit Symphony Orchestras, went on to work in the swimming earplugs business full time after 30 years of active playing. His wife and kids were taking care of the business while he was on the job.
The silicone based swimming earplugs were invented in 1962 by Raymond Benner. The company went a long way since then, entering the International Swimming Hall of Fame as their official earplugs.

Nowadays it is almost impossible to watch a swimming or diving event and see some participants not wearing swimming earplugs. They become so widely spread, that now everyone is using them when submerged in water. You would almost expect people to wear them in their own bath tubs. Mack's swimming earplugs became extremely famous when they were used for the first time in a World Series Baseball Game.
The wide usability and applicability of these moldable silicone swimming earplugs have allowed people to employ them in other various circumstances, like at night, for light sleepers, or at work, where noisy environments disturb, or machines are too loud. The swimming earplugs are the favorite earplugs for people traveling with various aircraft, the capability to not only suppress the noise of engines, but to assist in avoiding any damage because of cabin pressure, together with the fact that the swimming earplugs are inexpensive and easy to use, have made them a constant traveling companion to many.
