Okay back for real this time. Let's start mining those cav
wha
Welp, welcome back to Dwarf Fortress. Time to bar some doors and
A double-pronged attack!
Red alert!
What!!!!!
Well at least we killed that one, but it's about to get a whole lot messier!
Hell yeah knock 'em down B
nvm
Still 3 to go!
And those three are enough to hack through most of my soldiers, including the queen.
Domas sees his chance and takes it.
After a drawn out slaughter, the invaders are put down in the burrow.
This leaves out the dogs they killed as well.
And with that, I think I'll start anew with a slightly less chaotic worldgen.

Back!
Stumbling around the UI like it's my first day. Might make a duplicate save so I can mess around in a new fort and get my bearings back.
As I recall the priority right now is building a tall pumpstack to the caverns so that Ashenclash can finally have clean water, along with a soapmaking industry. There are a number of injured dwarves after the last scuffle, including the Queen, so there are infections aplenty I'm sure.

Updates will be sparse for a bit. Going on a much needed vacation next week + I just got PrimeHack running on my computer.

That's what I thought, the wiki worded it a little strangely I guess. For now I'll let him keep patrolling the entrance though, makes for a dope guard dog.
New goal: Acquire a mate for him and raise an army of dire wolves.
Even the elves around here bring hardcore trading goods. Wiki says they're too dangerous to keep around the general population so maybe I just make a pasture/patrol route that wraps around the mountain peak?

Kind of a DILF if we're being real here.
Soldiers sent in, dispatched him fairly easily. No one died, but
Might be time to focus on that cavern pump stack.

Ashenclash, Year 253
Doing alright for ourselves so far. The big things are not having enough beds and exactly zero water and soap. After I have some decent soldiers I'll get to work securing the caverns and begin work on a huge pump stack.
Metal industry is up and running, so said soldiers will have some good iron equipment soon. Steel might be a long ways off due to the needed wood.
As you can tell from the snow, I've had to work on securing the part of the volcano that leads into the fort. It's a little weird having to build upwards, but it's good practice for some other ideas I have.
"Queen" is still not getting what she wants until I can reliably build what she wants. What does she want? Traction benches. To be honest it's not a terribly annoying thing to make, and her preferences don't mention anything else that has to be built.
Need to get the justice system up and running. This land has a lot of enemies, and a lot of bards and soldiers have already moved in without being vetted. There have also been an increase in thieves and snatchers about so I might need to consider a rotating set of guards.
Over a hundred hours playing at sub 30 frames made me forget just how fast this game moves, so I'm going to try mining out as many floors as I can while keeping the population max low, say 100 to start with and slowly incrementing. That way it might not be so bad digging to the caverns.

That's a wee bit more intimidating than kobolds.
Good to know.
She enters and escapes through here. Damn diagonal movement screws me again.
My soldiers chased her down and around the mountain but she eventually escaped.
One more threat to worry about I suppose.

First werebeastie with a nicely timed warning message.
Will the merchants and guards be enough to stop her?
Sort of. She becomes seriously injured, then reverts.
She is then beaten to death by my untrained soldiers.
Screenshot her alignments before she passed. Does not seem like she's related to anyone who visited here. She also killed everyone in the room, and the combat logs don't say she injured any of my soldiers, so we might be okay. It's a grim reminder to armor up and make sure my dwarves can end fights quickly.

No, but you got me curious if an obsidian submarine could be built. Lo and behold, an unsuccessful attempt was made.

This polar bear has moves.
I sent out my fledgling squad to kill it because...well I didn't have much of a reason except training tbh. And it was a bad call since I don't have a hospital set up yet and turns out polar bears are kind of strong, who knew.
Oh yeah water, easy to forget dwarves need that sometimes.
Well time to figure out screw pumping from the caverns.

I laugh at this message. Winter is not the season of hardships for Ashenclash.

I didn't think I'd have to say this, but please don't bring your pet grazers to the arctic volcano.
