cleric verse astrid is a tempest cleric of uk’otoa and she’s a badass and i love her.

[Lucidianleviathan] It wraps around her feet, a low rumbling vibrating the image of her scrying mirror. It looks through the reflection of the glass, beckoning quietly to her, so far from land. 'Precious.'

     she folds her legs into the center of the magic circle carved into the floor of her dorm and watches the image in the shining silver. the scrying mirror had been a gift ages ago, a graduation present from master trent. 

     to perfect your craft, he had said, so proud of her after her family had been choking on the floor of their cottage.

     she is using it now to do things that would get her hanged in the empire, things that would get her sent to the deepest dungeons and the furthest exiles if they didn’t kill her for being a traitor and a heathen first.

     the golden eye takes up the whole of the mirror, reflecting her in the depths of the inky black of the slitted pupil that bisected the whole thing. it rumbles at her, speaks that single word ( PRECIOUS. ) and makes her smile.

            “ i know, i know. i haven’t seen you in some time. i have been too busy with work. ” and even then, she knows the serpent is there with her, knows it watches her and lets her watch others. there was no one who could hide from her eyes anymore.

she's still very much under the influence of the false memories in her head and has shown absolutely Zero Signs of the false memories fading / failing over time. she's convinced bren was just sick and that's why he failed and that's why he freaked out and that they need to find him to help him.

astrid is a pale red tiefling trained as a level 10 school of divination wizard as of the canon of the current campaign. she's a little higher level than caleb because of her extended training at the academy.

Reminder that Astrid and Eodwulf probably don’t even consider Caleb (Bren) to be a traitor to the empire.

As far as we know, they just think he’s sick.

From their perspective, he had a mental breakdown that night and spent several years in a semi-catatonic state where he was, thankfully, not a danger to himself or others, and then one day, out of nowhere, he got violent and killed a guy and ran away.  There’s no reason for them to think “oh, he got better and then decided to go be a fugitive and traitor to the empire,” they probably just think he’s even worse off than he was before.

(I wonder how long it took for them to stop hoping he was going to “wake up” one day and be okay again.  I wonder if they visited him at the asylum.  He had no family to come visit him and they’re the only ones who know why.)
