34 | Down By The Water

Rosie
_______________
"Would you like some water ma'am?"
"No, thank you." I declined, crossing my heavy legs against the cold bench sitting outside the court house.
I was alone. My mother became bedridden after she heard the news. My father was running late. Titus was getting married. Elijah was facing over 78 years on account of first degree murder and child endangerment.
He had no one to testify in his favor. This court case had been going on for months now.
I was alone. And I hated being alone. Which is one of the reasons I decided to laden my stomach with this ball of joy that wouldn't leave me alone in the pit of night. I had something to talk to, to live for.
There have been times where I've longed for the days Sanaa and I used to play hooky and lock ourselves away from society for a few days. Those were times when I felt least alone. There have also been times in which I was grateful not to have continued our faulty shenanigans.
I was grateful to God for escaping her trap. A murderous trap it was indeed. To think, she had been pushing me away the entire time. This baffled me. I wanted so much to be apart of Sanaa's twisted, bi-sexual, lovers quarrel; I became blinded by my surroundings.
If I would have known what she would end up doing to that Pepper girl, I would have told all then. But alas, I didn't know. I never know anything.
I didn't find out about any of this until I received a phone call from my brother directly after the incident at Frederigo's. I was so upset with him for stooping lower than our father and putting his hands on Sanaa.
Sanaa had just finished telling me the entire 411 about my brother and her.
Despite this, I was still a person. She was still a person. Human beings shouldn't hit other human beings no matter how much of hoe they were. That should've been plain and simple.
Regardless, I wasn't necessarily excited to be hearing my brothers voice so soon after this. When I answered the call, his voice was filled with sadden remorse, as it should have been. He was a crying mess and quite frankly, all over the place.
He just hit a girl. Should I expect anything less?
"I can't hear you!" I repeated, for the hundredth time. "You're gonna have to slow down."
It got to the point where I couldn't decipher a word he said.
"I have a gun." I remember him saying. "I'm going to blow my head off!"
Elijah never played with suicide. Mother told us never to do that unless we meant it. That being said, she never gave any further instructions if we didn't choose the ladder.
"Stop what you're doing!" I said. "What are you doing?"
Soon after, he mumbled a low goodbye and the call ended. I tried calling again, several times.
By this time, I'd notified Dinah, our mother. We were in the car.
About 20 minutes later, sirens sounded from all corners, heading to this abandoned park area.
"The pond!" I screamed, remembering the rancid water. "Something isn't right! Follow those cops!"
We reached the pond. This is where I witnessed Sanaa's suicide and Elijah being taken into custody.
She killed herself by drowning.
Instantly, I cried and pleaded for my brother to come home with us. He just hit her, so naturally I thought the chain of events began with domestic violence.
But, of course. This wasn't the case.
Earlier this summer, my family and I were notified of Esther's accounts being wiped clean by her spouse. We figured this was Elijah being Elijah; taking account of what he owned. However, after Elijah was taken into custody we realized he was never married on file to her. He barely had any money in his account, so it definitely wasn't him.
We couldn't trace the unknown spouse's name.
Elijah then confessed that Sanaa and her friend Kylo had committed the murders of the missing girls around town and were planning to commit more the same way they did with Esther. This was the troubling news that sent my mother into a bedridden asphyxia.
A red box was taken as evidence, consisting of Sanaa's notes and plans. There were doctor notes showing how many abortions she'd had as well as her having Gonorrhea. There were her goals for the end of the summer; the murders not on the list. Then there was a prose about the meaning of life in which she apologizes to each of her victims.
What a sick twisted girl.
One would think this evidence was enough for Elijah to become acquitted and released home.
On the contrary.
Elijah had created the murder weapon; cyanide.
According to Sanaa's records, it was created June 26th, the day before Esther's death.
Because Sanaa and her partner are not present, Elijah is an accomplice without a cause.
I will stand by my brother regardless of what happens. I believe my brother is a hard-working, kind-hearted, son of a bitch who is longing for a passion a son can only find in his mother. We all are. Me, Titus Jr., and Elijah alike.
Elijah isn't any different from anyone else. He'd gotten everything handed to him except for one thing; affection. He wanted someone who would take care of him like an infant.
Now he would be facing care from the state for the rest of his life.
We could blame this all on Sanaa, Naomi, or whatever the hell she wanted to be.
But by doing this, we'd have to blame ourselves.
Because of the events transpiring between Elijah Tobias, Naomi Zipphora, Kylo Waters, Penelope 'Peaches' Chivalry, Aaliyah Zipphora, Dinah and Titus Tobias, Amelia 'Pepper' Bergin, Esther Tobias, and all of the missing women and children...we've all been brought to our demise.
If I would have never began talking to Pepper, she might have still been alive. If Peaches and Sanaa never began an intimate relationship, she and her baby might still be living. If my mother never treated Sanaa bad she might not have committed the murders. If my mother spent more time with Elijah, maybe he wouldn't have inspired Sanaa's envious actions. If Esther would've never married Elijah, maybe she would still be alive.
If my mother had a dick, she would be my daddy.
But she ain't.
"Miss. Rosetta Tobias? We're ready for your testimony."
Now, I had to tell everything. From the moment I met Sanaa in the flower shop to the moment I seen her drowning in the pond she swore her life by.
Now, everything was crystal clear.
Now, each and every soul may rest...down by the water.
the end.
