lemonade mouth/band au! more notes under the cut

lemonade as in like the disney movie! so there are a couple like clear comparisons but mostly it's the bad kids get stuck in detention together except they form a band instead of an adventuring party

fabian > no equivalent (olivia vibes)

the most popular kid at school who is both in dance and on the football team. somehow gets decent grades as well. no close friends, but a lot of people who know him and want to get on his good side. kind of depressed, and his dad's currently in prison. he started playing the guitar as a way to show off and then genuinely started enjoying it

adaine > mo

she's a concert violist (playing the viola) always an accompaniment for her sister and is striking it out on her own for the first time. her family is very upset about this, and consistently puts her down so she'll go along with they want her to do. also she recently transitioned to going to public school for the first time, making her the new girl.

kristen > no equivalent

she's recently ex mormon, got out of her parents house (currently living in her car) and without all of her former friends stuck in a student president position that she got when she was still with the religion. questioning her sexuality after one too many encounters with the soccer team captain, tracker. used to be on the church choir, was a bit too enthusiastic about it.

gorgug > no equivalent (charlie vibes)

he's got like one or two kinda friends (mainly fig). extremely busy with his classes and with marching band and self isolating as a result. he's stressed out about living up to his parent's name (they run a very successful electric engineering company). signed up to work as a sound tech for the theatre department bc one of the female stage managers is very cute (zelda) and then discovered that he rlly like it.

riz > no equivalent

no friends! (other than maybe the AV club + penny) too used to burying himself in work at both his part time gig and with his insane amount of extracurriculars. started playing the piano bc he heard it helps with memory retention and overall cognitive ability.

fig > stella/wen

she's the cool loner skater kid who is the floater friend mostly? she's got a maybe relationship with ayda, who she loves to annoy at the school library. very interested in making her own music not very interested in school. freaking out over her parents getting remarried. her mom enrolled her in music lessons when she was younger, and it's one of the only things she can talk about with her mom these days.

watching fantasy high freshman year and man Riz without reliable talent is so sad to watch now that I've seen the difference, like murph has such good ideas and none of them work bc his dice hate him but now? now? he's unstoppable

In wbn Brennan makes a point of smart people not being immune to manipulation, they just rationalize it instead of not thinking about it too hard, and it’s got me thinking about the devil’s honey and kipperlily’s anger. I think her anger came long before the rationalization. Of course a mastermind is convinced there’s a logical reason to everything, so her level of anger must be logically justified, right? How could she accept that sometimes kids just have anger issues through no fault of their own? Where’s the storyline in that? So she made a storyline using info that seems logical to her out of context. Scapegoating the bad kids was easy. Half of them never go to class, like she said. From an outsider pov, Kristen is very much giving lol xd so random, and yet she succeeds. And should she ever have the horrifying realization that there’s holes in her logic, well she’s in too deep now and has devils honey on hand.

Look, I don't see Kipperlilly as naturally evil or anything, but her mental illness is absolutely not an excuse for hating somebody for having life ruining trauma. What about riz's mental health!!!! That's just as important as hers!!!! Why can she hate him because mental health but she's not allowed tp be hated when she's hurting someone elses?? The problem isn't that she has anger or jealousy issues, the problem is she genuinely believes riz deserves less than her. She, as somebody who is trying to run for student government, if she had it her way, would have people with trauma be punished for it. AND she chose not to do adventuring!!!! She on purpose did not do what the entire school is about!!! That was her choice. She could have gone to an academic school but she didn't. It's okay to not excel in school but you can't purposefully not do what the entire school is about and then get mad at people getting vague popularity for SAVING THE WORLD. THEY DIDN'T EVEN PASS SCHOOL ON THE BASIS OF SAVING POTENTIALLY ALL OF THE PEOPLE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. INCLUDING KIPPERLILLY. She is mad that her parents are boring, but she is literally in the best place in the entire realm of Spyre to become an interesting person. She wants to be interesting but at every turn she chooses to NOT do adventuring. She is doing everything to not be an adventurer and getting mad her life is boring. The power is in your hands girl!!!

I'm sorry I cannot be sympathetic to Kipperlilly for Lucy dying. Oh what's that Kipperlilly? You experienced magical trauma where someone you cared about was violently taken from you? Yes, I remember you talking about this!! So you think that's super unfair to the other NORMAL students and you should be graded worse? You think you don't deserve to do well in school because you have an unfair advantage? You think everybody else would be correct to hate you because someone close to you being murdered makes it easy for you? Or does it suddenly not apply when the life ruining trauma happens to YOU?
