Omg Leah you didn’t, this is already fucking me up. Constant baffled by your talent đŸ„șđŸ˜”
The best of me // e.d
Chapter one: “there’s no place like home.”
Summary: at 40 years old - Ethan Dolan has been through a lot. But nothing more painful than loosing the love of his life.
Warnings: shock me...... angst.
A/n: based off the movie, ‘The Best Of Me’ also? I’m Australian - drinking age is 18.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fall was always Ethan’s favourite time of year. The way the ground was always littered with a gradient of colours spanning the entirety of the rainbow. He didn’t mind that in reality all the leaves were dying - slowly making their decent towards to ground as the trees they parted from shed their much beloved cloaks.
Ethan loved the smell of fall - especially a New Jersey fall. This would be his first fall in 21 years. But who was truly counting?
Moving back to Jersey was never something Ethan planned. Something that wasn’t written in the state’s or in his cards. But his Ma? Lisa, well - she needed him more than ever before. That house was too big for just the one of her - the property Ethan’s family owned now too big for her to handle. She needed him and Ethan came running. Much like he was doing on his way to Woodies.
Woody’s. The local bar. The Dolan household was in near spitting distance if you were a good shot. Ethan saw no point in driving the truck he once shared with his twin all those years ago. A piece of history, a memory his mother couldn’t bare to part with.
And if Ethan jogged to woodies, his headphones blasting his favourite Nickleback song as his heavy footsteps crushing the decaying leaves beneath his feet, he never had an excuse as to not throw back a few beers and enjoy the aesthetic of the whole outing. But there was something on Ethan’s mind he couldn’t shake no matter how hard he tried.
The thought of seeing you was killing him.
At woody’s There was always going to be a chance he’d run into you - with Woody being your dads and all. Since the age of 13 you’d been behind the bar, in the small town of Jersey south? Nobody cares how old you were if you could poor a good beef and make a tasty cocktail.
As the trees past Ethan by, so did his past. The memory of the first time he saw you, spoke to you, rushing through his head as his feet carried him towards the pud that was nestled between fall trees.
Ethan was staring ~ he’d never be able to deny it if you asked him. You were beautiful. Your smile bright and inviting, friends surrounding you. A little social butterfly who held the red solo cup so delicately in her manicured hand.
“Dude?” Grayson nudged his brothers shoulder as he stood and drooled. “Her names Y/n bro, go talk to her? I’m sure she won’t bite unless you want her to—“ Grayson smirked as he brought the solo cup of cheap rum - near pure ethanol, to his lips. The small bubbles of the cola it was mixed with tickling his growing mustache.
“Gray” Ethan hissed, shoving his brother softly. “Shut up? She’s not like that, at all?”
“Fine E your choice” Grayson smiles with a soft chuckle - he could tell already that Ethan was in over his head. Chasing someone way out of his league, but nevertheless, he still pushed. “but if I were you? I’d go talk to her before—“ Ethan tuned Grayson out the second he saw you stumbling towards him. A cheeky grin plastered on your face like nothing Ethan had ever seen.
Ethan had never even spoken a word to you and yet he looked at you as if you hung ever Star in the night sky just for him.
“You Eth-Ethan?” You beamed his way. Ethan looked around just to make sure you were talking to him. The Ethan you were questioning.
“Ye-yeah?” He mumbled. Near inaudible.
“I picked dare, I gotta kiss ya” you giggled - leaning up to peck a quick kiss upon his lips. Leaving the poor kid stunned enough to freeze up on the spot. Grayson sent himself into a fit of giggles.
“Oh um, I uh—“ Ethan stuttered, trying good process what the fuck just happened. It made you smile - a crimson red blush appeared quickly on your face. Mimicking Ethan’s.
“You ïżŒreally don’t know how to flirt do you?” You asked inquisitively. Watching as the shy boy before you basically quivered searching his brain for an answer.
“Guess not” Ethan responded just above a whisper. Loud enough for you to hear and only you. As you walked closer - confidence from the many many vodka lemonades you’d downed throughout the entirety of the night you whispered in Ethan’s ear.
“Well? What’re you gonna do about it.?”
Before Ethan knew it he was walking into woody’s - the smell reminiscent of simpler times. Walking in? Ethan felt 19 again. 21 years his junior. Familiar faces littered the bar - older more experienced people who Ethan hadn’t seen in years. ïżŒAs soon as the door was basically hitting Ethan’s ass he heard the sound of broken glass smashing against hard wooden flooring. His eyes darting towards where he thought the sound came from.
His eyes landing on you - still as beautiful as ever. Shock radiating off your body clear as day even through the dimly lit pub.
You stood still - heart racing as you looked at the man you loved so dearly.
“E?” You asked. Badly above a whisper. Tears welling in your eyes.
“Uh—hi” Ethan panicked. He didn’t know what to say after 21 years. 21 years is along time to be apart from someone you truly love.
“Hi?” You asked, stepping closer towards Ethan as patrons of the pub you grew up In watched on. “Hi? That’s all you have to say E? Huh?”
“Y/n I—“
“Get out” you pleaded. “Ethan please get out before I do something else I’ll regret.” Ethan was curious, looking at you he swore you never aged a day. Basically nose to nose, Ethan asked.
“What was the first?” And with no more than a three second gap - you answered firmly without hesitation. A finger in his chest as you gritted your teeth. Tears flowing freely from your eyes.
“Meeting you.”

There’s a fic on fanfiction(.)net that I’ve kept tabs on for years to see if it’s been updated or not. While I’m no longer even in the fandom it’s written for, it just has one of the greatest storylines I’ve ever read. Last time it was updated was 2011.
The other day, I decided to reread the entire thing and leave a very in-depth review of what I thought of each chapter. I also mentioned how I started reading it when I was 13 and am now 21, but always came back to see if it was ever finished because I loved it so dearly.
Today, said author sent me a private message saying that her analytics showed that the story was still getting views even after all these years, but no one ever bothered to leave reviews other than “update soon!!!”, so she never felt motivated enough to finish it. She said that me reviewing every single chapter with lengthy paragraphs made her cry and meant the world to her. She also mentioned that she felt encouraged to write the two remaining chapters needed to complete the story and that she would send me a message the night before she updates the fic.
I’m literally sobbing. I’m so excited :’)
Please always remember to leave a review when reading fanfiction!!! It means a lot to a writer.

Fuck me are you kidding đŸ„”
I’ve always thought about this but do you think Gray uses a fleshlight
i would love to think so đŸ€€ probably went back to that sex shop to get one, i can just imagine him putting some good porn on to get himself so hard. and then placing the flesh light on his cock so slowly as it wraps tightly around him. and he’s moaning and stirring a little on his bed, his large hand just wrapping around it to move it up and down and up and down until he’s going faster and gets needier. just imagiiiiine the cum dripping out of it oh my god

A Letter To You Part 3 {e.d}
Tumblr media
Part 1 Part 2 // Masterlist
It had been about a few weeks since Ethan moved to Los Angeles and he was having the best time of his life. It had finally felt like he made the right decision of moving across the country, away from his family. Away from you. It wasn’t easy leaving you behind as he remembered the tears forming in your eyes at the airport, but through FaceTime, text, late night calls, your letters
it had felt as if you were somehow right beside him every step of the way.
Somehow through his hectic schedule, he was finally able to unbox the last of his things. As he was pulled some clothes out of a box, he heard something fall to the ground with a small thud. Ethan put the clothes into the closet before turning and bending down to pick up the small object. It was a miniature stuffed turtle wearing a Santa hat. Ethan’s face instantly turned into a smile as he delicately held the stuffed animal in his large hand. Although it may seem ridiculous and childish to others to keep something that can be so easily replaced, this was something Ethan couldn’t let go of.
It wasn’t the stuffed animal that brought a smile to his face, but rather the memories that came with it. The memory of the day he met you.
As he sat down on his bed, his eyes flickered to the stack of letters sitting on his nightstand. Ethan reached over and opened the letter:
#3 Open When You Want To Take A Trip Down Memory Lane

On the night of your birthday a few years ago/ the Christmas party Grayson threw, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I had barely known the kid for a few days except for when we talked in English class and the next thing I know he’s inviting me over. He’s so odd sometimes I swear lol. And to be honest, I wasn’t really sure if I was going to go at all
But I’m so glad I did because I met you.
*flashback*
I was stood alone by the kitchen counter taking a sip of my drink, internally hating myself for going to a party with people I didn’t know, until you appeared beside me.
“Y/N right?” Ethan said as he filled his cup with hot water to make some hot chocolate.
“Yeah. How’d you know?” You said with a sweet smile as you watched him mix his drink together.
“I’ve seen you a few times around school. I just didn’t know you were friends with Grayson.”
“Actually he kind of just invited me out of the blue. I didn’t know we were friends either.” You chuckled slightly, trying to keep yourself from staring too much at Ethan.
“I’m Ethan by the way.”
“I know.” You said way too quickly before laughing at yourself, “I mean who doesn’t.”
The truth was, you had seen Ethan around school as well. You knew his name, but then again so did everyone else. You just didn’t know he knew who you were.
He was the cute boy you would see one day and somehow see everywhere else without even really looking. Ethan was just somehow there and now you were somewhere he didn’t expect to see you.
As the others began to gather around in the living room, Ethan took the opportunity to ask you, “Hey do you want to go somewhere more private?”
“Wow already trying to make moves on me Dolan? At least take me to dinner first.” You joked, making Ethan blush, something you later learned to love.
Ethan quickly realized how wrong that sounded. It wasn’t at all what he had meant. “I
I’m sorry I meant outside onto the porch. O-Only if you want to of course.”
“I would love to.” You said picking up the presents off the ground as you followed Ethan who was carrying two cups of hot cocoa.
The two of you sat and talked in the cold weather for what seemed to be hours while taking sips of your drinks to keep you warm, something you found yourself doing very often later on.
In the middle of it, the conversations died down as your attention was focused on the starry night. “It’s beautiful isn’t it?”
As you were too busy looking up at the sky, you didn’t notice Ethan staring at you. “Yeah
I’ve never seen anything more beautiful.” He said with a hushed voice.
Once the night came to an end, the two of you decided it was time to head back inside. But when you walked in, you had realized you were the only guest left.
“I am so sorry.” You said turning to Ethan, “I didn’t mean to stay so late.”
Ethan softly chuckled, “Y/N it’s okay, really. I’m really glad you came tonight.”
You smiled up at him as he returned the favor before the both of you heard, “Hey E! Mom wants you to help clean up!”, coming from Grayson.
“Oh hey Y/N. I didn’t know you were still here. Thanks so much for coming!” He said as he gave you a hug.
“Thanks for inviting me. I had a great time.” You said as the two of you separated. “And oh I almost forgot about your guys’ presents!”
“You got me I mean us something?” Ethan said beside you as you handed  them their bags, “You really didn’t have to.”
“Yeah you really didn’t, but thank you.” Grayson said as he accepted his gift, “I’m glad you had a good time. I’ll see you Monday?”
“Yeah I’ll see you Monday and thanks for inviting me.” You said as you waved bye to Grayson before he left to help clean up.
Ethan stayed behind and opened his gift to reveal a turtle with a Santa hat. The same one he would keep forever.
“I didn’t know what else to get you. Grayson mentioned it once that your favorite animal was a turtle, so I hope I did okay.” You said shyly.
He pulled you into an unexpected hug and said, “You did more than okay. Thank you I love it.”
The two of you pulled away and he asked, “Do you need a ride home?” Ethan didn’t want the night to end. He didn’t want to say goodbye just yet.
“No it’s okay. I drove myself. But thank you though.” You said as the two of you headed towards the door.
Ethan opened the door for you, wishing he could somehow make this night last, but he knew this wasn’t going to be the last time he saw you and he was right. “So I’ll see you later?”
“I’ll see you later. Goodnight Ethan.” You said walking towards your car.
“Goodnight Y/N.” He said watching you get into your car before you drove off.
Ethan shut the door and turned around to see his mom in the living room.
“Who was that?” Lisa asked, noticing Ethan was smiling a bit brighter than usual.
“Y/N.”
“She’s pretty.” She said knowing that you were going to stay in her son’s life for a very long time.
“Yeah she really is isn’t she, Ma?”” Ethan smirked before joining her.
As you were getting into bed, your phone beside you lit up your dark room. Picking up the phone, you had realized the smile that never left your face grew even bigger when you got a text saying,
“Thanks again for the turtle. He’s found a new home. I promise I’ll take good care of him. -Ethan :)” Then came a picture of the stuffed animal on a nightstand.
“You’re welcome:). Not to be rude or anything but how did you get my number?” You messaged back.
Almost immediately he replied, “I stole it from Grayson’s phone. I hope you don’t mind.”
You laughed at his message and said, “Not at all. Goodnight E.”
His heart jumped at the thought of you already calling him by a nick name, “Goodnight Y/N.”
*end of flashback*
Ethan looked over at the picture of the two of you last year holding the same stuffed turtle close to your guys’ faces and placed the stuffed animal right next to the picture frame and letters.
“Hey E. Do you wan-” Grayson began to say as he entered the doorway to Ethan’s room but stopped when he saw what was on his night stand, “You still have that after all these years?”
“Yeah why wouldn’t I?” Ethan said putting the letter back in its envelope.
“You’re not one to keep something for so long.” Grayson said sitting in Ethan’s chair by his desk.
“Yeah but
”
“But it’s because Y/N gave it to you, isn’t it?” Grayson said with a smirk forming on his face, “All I got was the pencil I let her borrow one day and never got back until that night.”
“Yeah
But it was also the night I met her.”
The night that changed his life forever.
