ALERT SPOILER A SOUL OF ASH AND BLOOD.

I repeat SPOILER

Okkay so I finished the book in one sitting and even tho i got a headache from it, the book was more than worth it . I just can"t get over the ending, jennifer, how could you do that to us 😭.

However i ve got many theories and also many questions

Starting with Casteel and Malik's heritage. I am now 100% sure they descend from a primal,more precisely Attes, the primal of War.

The thing is, they must be close descendants for Casteel to have that much of a power ( he could be Attes's grandson, or great grandson). Or it could be his bonding to Poppy and Kieran that made him that powerful. If not, then Valyn is hiding a lot of things.

Also, Casteel said he did something to Shea that he will share with Poppy once she is awake. That got me thinking : maybe he didn't exactly kill her, snapped her neck and left her "dead", and maybe Isbeth found her and made her a revenant?? That would be a very twisted sort of event, Casteel meeting the woman he once loved and who betrayed him and his brother. This would be so intriguing, or it could be just me overthinking and rambling.

Also in the chapter " Present X" when Millicent Malik showed up, Casteel said that Millie ran away because Poppy killed her mother. Millcent then laughed at the mention of mother :

" i have no desire to harm her , " She killed your mother "

"Mother" Millicent laughed, the sound high pitched and maybe a little crazed, causing Delano to tense. "Yeah" he laughter faded as she clasped her hands together "That was our mother".

I know that it was mentioned in The war of two queens that Isbeth shares some looks with poppy , Casteel said that Isbeth"s hair was a sbade dafker than Poppy's and they share the same jaw's structure. However the resemblances stop here. Isbeth could've stolen them from their real mother, whom i yhink is Jadis , Nektas's daughter. But then again Nektas would've felt it. Which leads us to this question :" is Isbeth their real mother, or just some psychotic mad woman who stole babies ??"

Oh ma , i can"t wait for the next book to come out, cause this is killing me .

Writing fight scenes

masterlist. main navigation.

1. Pacing

A fight scene should be fast-paced and intense. Unless it's a final battle with numerous parties, a fight scene that's too long tends to take away suspense. To speed up your pacing, use active voice to describe movement and don't overdescribe your characters' thoughts. Excessive inner monologue will be unrealistic, as people usually have no room to think during intense combats.

2. Character mannerisms

Here's a point that people often overlook, but is actually super important. Through fight scenes, you should be able to reveal your characters' contrasting mannerisms and personality. A cunning character would play dirty - fighting less and making use of their opponent's weakness more. A violent character would aim to kill. A softer one would only target to disarm their enemies, using weakened attacks. A short-minded character would only rely on force and attack without thinking. This will help readers understand your characters more and decide who to root for.

3. Making use of surroundings

Not only the characters, you also need to consider the setting of your fight scene and use it to your advantage. Is it suitable for fighting, or are there dangerous slopes that make it risky? Are there scattered items that can help your characters fight (e.g. nails, shards of glass, ropes, wooden boards, or cutlery)? Is it a public place where people can easily spot the fight and call the authorities, or is it a private spot where they can fight to the death?

4. Description

The main things that you need to describe in a fight scene are :

• Characters involved in the fight

• How they initiate and dodge attacks

• Fighting styles and any weapons used

• The injuries caused

Be careful to not drag out the description for too long, because it slows down the pace.

5. Raise the stakes

By raising the stakes of the fight, your readers will be more invested in it. Just when they think it's over, introduce another worse conflict that will keep the scene going. Think of your characters' goals and motivations as well. Maybe if the MC didn't win, the world would end! Or maybe, one person in the fight is going all-out, while the other is going easy because they used to be close :"D

6. Injuries

Fights are bound to be dirty and resulting in injuries, so don't let your character walk away unscathed - show the effect of their injuries. For example, someone who had been punched in the jaw has a good chance of passing out, and someone who had been stabbed won't just remove the knife and walk away without any problem. To portray realistic injuries, research well.

7. Drive the plot forward

You don't write fight scenes only to make your characters look cool - every fight needs to have a purpose and drive the plot forward. Maybe they have to fight to improve their fighting skills or escape from somewhere alive. Maybe they need to defeat the enemy in order to obtain an object or retrieve someone who had been kidnapped. The point is, every single fight scene should bring the characters one step closer (or further :D) to the climax.

8. Words to use

• Hand to hand combat :

Crush, smash, lunge, beat, punch, leap, slap, scratch, batter, pummel, whack, slam, dodge, clobber, box, shove, bruise, knock, flick, push, choke, charge, impact

• With weapon :

Swing, slice, brandish, stab, shoot, whip, parry, cut, bump, poke, drive, shock, strap, pelt, plunge, impale, lash, bleed, sting, penetrate

I hate to be that kind of person. But

In the chapter JL published Last year on Poppy's birthday ( Cupckakes and kisses i think), it was mentioned that Casteel and the gang was still looking for Malik and Millicent. So i think we wouldn't see our Prince in this book. However i am hoping we will get glimpses of him before Everything, like when they were young and before Cas's capture.

I'm so damn happy they are like “we have to find malik” because that means my husband will appear early in the book and not the last three chapters. I won

I think the reason why Sera and Nyktos did nothing to help Malec is because they couldn't, the type of " I can"t because fates commends it in order for things to happen as they were destined to " couldn't.

Also Ires and Malec reunion?? Girl i wouldn't want to be there when that happens, but also Ires was manipulated by Isbeth, she herself admitted that Iris came to help his brother, but i don't really think he knew that Isbeth was Malec's heartmate. Idk, that b"tch was manipulative and a huge liar, who says she didn't lie to Poppy in the first place and kidnapped Iris from the moment he landed on the mortal realm?? This is why we need the other books !!.

reunions i want to add

Attes and Casteel and Malik :

Attes at first would be like : who the hell is this less-handsome versions of me ?? But then when he would get to know them he would be so proud of them and prolly teach them some ways to skin someone al while keeping them alive durimg the whole thing, because as much as i love my babies they are bloodthirsty.

Sera and Casteel and Malik : i think she would be pissed at them at first but then she will like them .

Nyktos , Millicent and Poppy : as much as people say that Poppy is just a red head version of Sera ,she reminds me of Nyktos :other tahn being a read headed virigin that was betrayed by a royal she is a bit reserved, she is kindhearted and loyal, and always thinks about balance , justice and fairness. Seraphena is more of a chaotic character ( like Millicent ) She does share a lot of traits with Poppy ( like the anger issues), but idk Poppy takes more after Nyktos. However i think Millicent is more like Sera.

So i have this feeling that Nyktos would absolutely ADORE poppy and Milicent. Not only these two look exactly like his heartmate, but they are also good and caring and brave and strong and i may just start crying rn because my babies deserve so much better 😭😭

Characters meetings in Blood and Ash that I'm most exciting for:

Malec and Eloana plus Valyn

I want go see the world burn honestly. I said this already but I want Eloana and Malec to have this resentful attitude where they trow beef at everything the other says. And plus Valyn because I know my man will have eloana's back against everything. Besides, I can see Malec don’t liking Valyn not because he wants Eloana back or something but I believe Malec gives vibes of being that type of man that believes his dick changes a woman’s life forever so the fact that she remarried, moved on, had a life and named someone else king??? I think he would be like “this fucking idiot who he think he is, i am a god i am so much better than he him” bla bla bla and then Valyn, as I said he is always there for eloana plus he said he believed that Malec did not deserve her love so I don’t think Valyn likes Malec either, he probably recents him for what he did to his beloved wife (honestly same valyn)

I hope we get at least a snake peak of Sera and Isbeth

this is an obvios one, I just want to see isbeth literally suffering and sera having fun

Malik and his parents

this one is going to hurt me like a bitch. It already did when Valyn seemed about to cry when he saw Malik again and Malik couldn’t even look at his father. Malik recents his parents for hiding the truth from him so there is so much tension in here. I want the pain that come with this reunion but I hope that at the end everything is happy again

Millicent and Ires

I want ires to see his daughter again and not just poppy

There is a lot to unpack between this two. I highly doubt they will be just ok with one another after everything that happened around them. I think this could be a tensed moment for resentment, blame and idk I just feel that it can’t be all perfect and harmonic between these two after every thing that happened

Malec and his parents

If a remember correctly, Nyktos and Sera knew where Malec was entombed and they actually had guards guarding the entrance yet they did not take him of his entombment do I wonder if Malec knows that or if he will find out at some point, I think this will be tense too, and again I don’t think they can just pretend nothing happened

The thing is i am also very confused. Because if Layla is the goddess of War and accord, then it mean the former Primal of war and accord was dead, then how is that Attes is still alive??

Attes' description reminds us of Valyn, therefore we know for sure he is the one who has a godly descendnat and Not eloana. However , if Valyn is a descendant of a primal, then he is a deity , he can even be a god, which would make Casteel and Malik gods ...

I also have questions concerning Valyn, if he was a deity, then how did he survive Malec?? Didn't he kill all of the dieties ??. And if he isn't, then what was his title before marrying Eloana and becoming King?? Who was he ??

We already know that he is the descendant of Elian, the forst ever atlantian. But this just makes things more confusing.

I have SO many questions and thhere is No Kieran around to help me 😭😭

so Attes , Primal of War and peace is described As being dark haired and having golden eyes, AND DIMPLES, when i forst read his description, i first thought " ELIAN DA'NEER" but then he was introduced as Attes, so i got this huge ass theory where Casteel is the desendant of the primal of War. AND IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE !!

Cause as much as i love my baby, Cas is bloodthirsty, he never hesitate to kill, manipulate, slaughter and cause bloodbaths.

Also he is very powerful, he can compel people to do whatever he wants, And Poppy has compared him so many times to a God, Jen rarely writes anything just because she feels like it.

But you would say :" Ooh but what is the difference between him and any other bloodthirsty character in the book ?", or " it's because of what the vamprys did to him that he is like this".

You are right. I have no explanation other than the fact that i truly want Attes to be Cas and Malik's great great grandfather.

Imagine the Chaos they would cause if the met ??

Millicent was born many years before Poppy, she evensaid that she was as old as Casteel in the Fourth book. Which got me thinking : she must have been close to her dad at some point.

Like she must have spent some time with him, actually knew him as her father. Before Isbeth imprisoned him. So She must have been close to her father. Now i am heartbroken because after Being caged he must have felt so helpless and anxious about his daughter being in the hands of his worst enemy 😭

Also Poppy said that she once met her father when ahe was younger in his Wivern's form. Imagine Iris's distress when he recognised his daughter and saw her scared and veiled. His hopelessness for feeling so helpless and not being able to get to her. Not only Isbeth caged him ,starved him and SA him,she also took his daughers from him, and made him a starnger to them, and that just made me hate her even more.

I want to read all this shit in his POV

I also want Him to have a great relationship with his daughters 😭😭😭 he deserves the world

Oh my god i can not believe Jennifer dropped this and asked from us to wait a whole freaking month to get the book. This is so unfair

Ires has been in a cage for centuries but he did not asked for the brother that he went to look for, he did not ask for jadis, he did not ask for his parents, etc. His first instinct was to look for Millicent between the people in the chamber. Millicent was his first thought right after he recognized Poppy. I AM SO BROKEN RIGHT NOW

Also ( this is my imagination getting the better of me ) i always imagine Casteel and his mother having the same relationship as Luke in HOTD with Rhenerya. I think arguing would be the very least of their problems .

Malec cheated on Eloana many times, disrespected her and hurt her.

Eolana on the other tried to murder his mistress and nearly succed.

She chained and burried Malec for 2 hundered years.

Her advisor and friend killed his son .

Her first son tried to kill His niece Poppy.

Her second son kidnapped Poppy.

Now i ll tell you, i can't wait for the drama, because, oooh believe me, there would be drama.

The wholle Sera/ Nyktos and the Da'Neer familly reunion would be so chaotic. I can't wait for it!

Like :

Alert spoiler crown of gilded bones

Spoiler can't be the only one who is pissed by the fact that we were rubbed from Poppy and Ian's relationship.

Like in the two frist books she spoke of him so fondly, she seems like a sister who admires and loves her big brother at all costs and is ready to do anything ro save him.

And then, we don't get to know him at all since he dies in the third book.

And then he is barely mentioned in the fourth book. There was no mournings. Seeing her brother being beheaded must've been the most traumatic event to Poppy, unfertunatly we get close to nothing on how she feels after they killed him.

Like that man was her brother, her only friend for a long time, the only one who tried to make her laugh and smile and forget their tragic past . She was devastated, not only jer brother was killed in the worst way possible, but also her husband and heartmate gets kidnapped by her evil mother.

I want to read a fanfic where he still lives and is in constant banter with Casteel. Like please , i am ready to pay someone to write this 😭😭

I truly hope they wont die in the end .

My worst nightmare is Jen pulling out an Gavriel/Aedion plot pn Valyn ans Malik. I would litterally cry my soul out if anything happens to Valyn.

But mostly, i want to get his and Eloana's story. I want to know how they met, how they fall in love , was one of Malec"s generals who fall in love with the so seeming depressed queen? Or was he one of her guards ??. We didn't get to know the way they meet, and the way he helped her heal her broken heart ( since we clearly know that Malec shattered her heart more than once).

I want to know THEIR STORY!!

Also, Valyn reminds me sp much of his son , Casteel. Like he is a more mature version of him :

- both love dangerous wpmen who has penchant for sharp thing

- both have dimples

- both are volatile and can kill as easily as they breath

- both ABSOLUTLY adore their wives and worship the very ground they walk on.

- BOTH HAVE FREAKING DIMPLES

Jennifer, i beg you, don't you dare take them away from us, Valyn is my precious little baby.

you know what little and overlooked detail in Blood and Ash breaks my heart every single time I remember it? Valyn's thought process when it came to Malik.

So first there is hope. Hope that something could be done and that their son would come back to them. Valyn alongside Eloana tried to find a way to retrieve Malik after Casteel’s arrival so they did call the Elders according to Casteel, but apparently they were left without answers because nothing was done. As a matter of fact, JLA herself once said that it was not that Valyn or Eloana abandoned their boys to Isbeth, it actually pained them but they couldn’t risk the entire kingdom of Atlantia, they just couldn’t do anything.

Then there is sorrow and grief. After years past Valyn gave up the idea that his son, his first born child would. come back to him. Casteel still kept his hopes and it seem that Eloana, even if lower than Casteel, she also kept hope but Valyn faced that he son was long gone. So he buried his son, or at least the son he know and loved, even though he did not have a body to mourn and say goodbye.

Then comes the anger alongside the pain that never left him. He needed to make those who have hurt his boy pay.

Then it comes…the relief I assume to know that his sone is alive, the pain because now he know they have in fact broke him and the heartbreaker to hear of what his son has done. Yet, the worse part is that now he was getting mentally ready to kill the son he spent centuries loving and then other decades mourning because he know that if Malik was now even capable of hurting his little brother, the same one he gave up his life for, then that was no longer his son. I truly believe Valyn wanted to bring honor to the Malik he knew, the kind fun prince that would never do an actual alliance with the blood queen, so that is why he was ready to kill Malik. Besides, I also believe it wanted to be him to kill him so he could do it without pain, also also to see his son one last time and say goodbye

Then when Valyn finally is in the same room as his son after centuries, Malik cannot even look at him in the eyes. Valyn carries the shame, the guilt and the pain for what was done to his son and how in someway he was part of it. But he still loves them more than anything so he waits until Malik is ready to be hugged just like Cas was.

On the whole, both Valyn and Eloana are in pain for their sons. They even wince when Malik is named, they stopped going places because it reminded them of Malik or Valyn, who always hides his emotions, Can’t help the agony he feels at the mention of Malik and Poppy often feels it. But I think that the rollercoaster of pure pain that Valyn went through is just sad, he loves his son and he suffers because of that.

and everytime Poppy or Cas is not looking, he would be mean to Kieran, hiss or try to puch his stuff off the table, and no one would believe him , like " how can this little angel do harm to anyone ?? HE'S PERFECT KIERAN YOU RE JUST JEALOUS "

And when Nyktos would come over, the cat WOULD NOT leave his lap, and Nyktos would be like :" i am not fan of cats but this one is sweet so i'll pet him" .

All the while Kieran would wonder why such demoniac creatures with cute looks were made or wheither this one crawled out of the Abyss

FBAA characters: cat or dog person?

Casteel: he loves both but 100% a dog owner. He loves a big dog that can be taken out for long runs, to run by the side of setti and that would fight next to him

poppy: again loves both but a dog person, she is messy and energetic and needs a bestie that matches all her chaos, maybe a small or medium dog that wages it’s tail when it sees her

Kieran: cat person. He wants to chill and wants the pet to rest on his chest while reading or knitting. He has enough chaos in his life only by being cas's bestie

Malik: cat person but an orange cat. Idk why a cat person, it’s just his vibe but I am sure it’s orange because it matches his insane spontaneous energy

Millie: she would literally die for both, like seeing kitten would bring her to tears but as a pet she would choose a gigantic fluffy female dog

Isbeth: she hates dislikes pet because she likes ti have the attention all to herself, believes that dogs are dirty and she would recent cats because 1 scratched her when she was ten

sera: she would love a street, one-eyed, cat that dislikes absolutely everyone but would purr on her lap

Delano: he would love to take care a very tiny dog or a dog with special needs

Eloana: she likes dogs but she wouldn’t like to have one, she prefers cats and mostly black cats

Nyktos: he says that the dog or cat discussion is pointless. He would later agree to adopt whatever sera wanted

I would say Poppy is definitly a cat person. Like a big fluffy white cat . I always imagine her adopting a white cat that Kieran would ABSOLUTLY hate ( it would be reciprocal) and would always get scratched whenever he is near him and Poppy would defend the cat by saying that Kieran started it first when he tried to bite him in his wolven form.

Now i need a fanfiction.
