“Are you okay?”  Eddie coughs and nods, but says nothing. Abbie Jean unfolds herself from his arms, grabs the collar of his t-shirt, and slowly treads water to the nearest edge. She lifts her torso up and out of the water, drawing in giant lungfuls of air, and looks at him over her shoulder.  “Eddie—” The thundering of heavy boots cuts her off. A moment later, somebody says, “You motherfucker,” in a tone simultaneously relieved and infuriated it throws Eddie for a loop. A hand grabs him around the collar and tugs. “Eddie Diaz, you’re a son of a—” “Her first,” he interrupts Buck and coughs once more. He wipes the water out of his eyes and looks up at Buck. “Get her first.”

oh perhaps the penultimate chapter of don't just stand there has some feelings???? some emotions???? some tenderness?????

His boyfriend chuckled. "If you miss me this much when I go start on breakfast, you're going to have a really hard time this weekend." Buck groaned, cracking one eye open. "Don't go. Stay home. Stay in bed, actually. With me. Safe and sound." Tommy sat on the edge of the bed, carding his fingers through Buck's hair. He was already dressed, showered, and shaved, and it was breaking Buck's heart a little bit. "Safe and sound, huh? I thought you promised me you weren't going to worry." Buck grimaced. This was the first time Tommy was going on special deployment since they'd started dating - he was heading all the way to Canada, to the out of control wildfires decimating northern Alberta. And Buck had promised not to worry when Tommy had told him the night before, but he's been up half the night remembering the bone-deep, icy panic when Hen's chopper had gone down outside San Angelo, the desperation with which they'd searched for her and the Texas captain, seeing her unconscious in that old mine shaft... "Hey," Tommy said gently, his other hand taking Buck's where it was squeezing Tommy's pillow. "Evan, I'll be okay. I'm very good at my job."  "I know," Buck said lowly.  Tommy leaned in, forcing Buck to make eye contact with him. "Hey. You think I worry about you, when you hang from the side of a high-rise or throw yourself into a burning semi truck?" To be fair, Buck had only done each of those things once since they got together (okay, the high-rise happened twice, but it was LA, there were a lot of high-rises).  "Uh, yeah," Buck said, turning over to face him better. "I think you do worry about me. Probably has something to do with you meeting me on the scene and scooping me into your arms, saying oh Evan, I was so worried - " "I did not scoop you - " "You did some scooping, Kinard," Buck teased. "Chim and Hen still haven't let me live it down."

How do I still not have this fic done. This is from the buck gets railed fic

“I know,” Tommy says quickly, and then pauses to gather his thoughts. “I just needed to make sure you feel safe with me.”

He cups Tommy’s face with one hand, stroking his thumb over his cheekbone. “You have,” he assures him, because it’s true. “But I want you to feel safe with me too.”

Tommy’s whole face softens. “I do,” he says with a nod, his focus slipping down to Buck’s mouth. They move, meeting each other halfway. Every time Tommy kisses him it lights him up inside. It’s not that kissing a man is more right than kissing a woman, it’s the way doing so makes whole a part of him he��d never realized was incomplete. He’s pretty sure if he kissed a woman right now he’d still feel this feeling, because the difference now is not that Tommy’s a man but that Buck now has a firmer grasp on who he is than he ever has before in his life.

And maybe it also lights him up not because Tommy is a man but because Tommy is Tommy. Buck…really fucking likes him. He hasn’t felt this level of starry-eyed over anyone since—Abby, maybe.

Tease Tidbit Tuesday

the writing beans have returned from war, but not for any of my existing wips. Enjoy this little tease from my (second) Buddie NHL AU. This one is (hopefully) going to be short and smutty (the short part might be a lie, I'm at 2k and haven't started the smut).

Buck would like it on record that he didn’t go looking for the video of Eddie’s fight with Jonah Greenway because he didn’t even know Eddie had gotten in a fight with Jonah Greenway. Ravi sent the video into the group chat with the comment that “Fans are weirdly horny over fights” and no other context.  If Eddie had been home Buck probably wouldn’t have watched it or maybe they would have watched it together for a laugh, but Eddie was still at practice and Buck was alone in the Diaz house where he’d spent the last month recovering. He was bored, he figured watching a fan edited video of a fight would be fine.  The video started with a title card that said “Buddie is real” and a clip of the hit that had ended Buck’s season. He’d seen the hit a few times now, but he wasn’t sure why Ravi had mentioned a fight. The video cut to Eddie throwing his stick and gloves onto the ice and shoving Greenway away from Buck before dropping to his knees and carefully cupping Buck’s face in his hands.  He was hit with a sudden memory of that moment, of the way he hurt so much but he felt safe because Eddie was there. He couldn’t hear what Eddie was saying in the video, but he remembered Eddie making him feel safe. The next cut showed Eddie and Ravi, but mostly Eddie, helping Buck off the ice.

starting to get. ah. concerned. that the next chapter of some things fall will NOT be done before 7x06 airs but. here is a sneak preview:

“Hey.” Eddie freezes as Buck’s low voice floats toward him. He sucks in another fortifying breath before turning to face him. “Buck,” he says. “Hey.”  It’s painful to look at him, limned in light from the ballroom behind him. He’s been hurting himself all night by looking at Buck, but somehow, here in this quiet, tucked-away corner beneath the stars, it’s too much to have Buck look back at him. “Just wanted to check on you,” Buck says. He’s holding a cup in either hand, and offers one to Eddie.  “I’m good,” Eddie says, both to the drink and the implied question. “I’ve probably had one too many already.” “It’s water,” Buck says.  Eddie takes it, careful not to let their fingers brush. He thinks, right now, that if Buck touches him, he might not be able to stop himself from breaking apart under his hands. “Thanks.” Buck nods like—like coming out here, looking after Eddie, taking care of him, is just what he’s supposed to do. No thanks necessary.

The social attitude regarding age is consistently getting weirder. You’re not ‘pushing 30’ you’re just in your late 20s. 30 is not old and neither is 40 while I’m at it. Growing older is an enormous privilege and displaying that age is a gorgeous component of life. Spending your days trying to reverse that grace breeds an eternally wasted life.
