I think Charlie is probably gay. He moved to San Francisco even though he has no friends there to speak of. He didn’t go there specifically for university seeing as he’s attending a random community college. He’s from a tiny town in the Midwest where homosexuality probably wasn’t very accepted. I could definitely understand him packing up and heading out to San Francisco on a whim, where he knows there is an established gay community that he can be a part of even though he didn’t really have a plan once he got there. I’m guessing he came out to his parents and it didn’t go well otherwise they would probably be supporting him financially, and they’re not. Nancy doesn’t find a letter from his parents. There’s no evidence of them contacting him at all. Instead you find a brief postcard from Charlie trying to reach out to them. He doesn’t sign it with a “Love, Charlie”— just his name. He also mentions that he’s “very proud” of the work he’s doing, which seems like a way for him to subtly tell to his parents that he is not going back to his old life. He’s talking about renovating the house but I think he’s also confirming that he is proud of his honest self and who he is as a person.

henry bolet is a gender non conforming transman! when he was younger he had major issues with his identity since he was a dfab boy who liked things that are considered feminine; he worried his interests would invalidate is gender identity to other people. Now he's pretty happy with where he is in life, but he retained the withdrawn attitude he developed as protection from a cisheteronormative world.

I dont ever see many detailed/well thought out trans head canons, so as a trans guy this was a really nice submission to find in the ask box! Keep em coming!
