hey y’all, it’s been a bit but i thought y’all might like to hear this exciting update:

i’ve accepted a position with a local food security non-profit where i’ll start on sept 11. i’ll be working as a resource coordinator to expand SNAP outreach & maximize SNAP use in my state, with my work also serving as groundwork & case study for potential national policy & strategy. it’s going to be my first salaried position and my first job that actually applies to my degrees.

i’m already not on here all that often anyway, but i still think of y’all and am super excited to share about this :))

Imagine my shock as a neurodivergent teen when I first realized that using large vocabulary and eloquent speech doesn't make you less likely to be misinterpreted, rather it adds an entirely new layer of misinterpretation I had never even realized existed in the form of people thinking you're being snobbish or condescending when you're just trying to be specific

Not to out myself as #old but it’s really so funny to me how so many people who regularly used the internet in the 2000s wanna play revisionist history and pretend teenagers getting upset over something that doesn’t even remotely matter in the scheme of things and sending death threats to cope or whatever is a new phenomenon, like yeah I remember the aughties, I remember excitedly reading encyclopedia dramatica “articles” (read: extended callouts with a bias that would put any tumblr user to shame) while pretending the constant jokes about women and black “people” (lol oxymoron amirite) didn’t get to me, I remember the fandom wank communities where we’d mock middle and high schoolers for making bad Harry Potter fanfiction and then double down when they got upset, I remember phone numbers and addresses posted on 4chan because someone’s crush wasn’t reciprocated, I KNOW the FBI recognized swatting as early as 2008. The only reason any of us knew of Brian Peppers is because of ableist teens having fun

This isn’t a defense of the harassment campaigns or disingenuous callouts on tumblr because those are inexcusable and a non insignificant portion of you need to stop using your shitty home life and alleged desire for social justice to rationalize your poisonous ass, as if being abused negates you being a bully.

but like…lmao at people in their 20s/30s already prepared to start that “back in my day we respected each other and let people enjoy things” bullshit because no tf we didn’t. Social media didn’t exist ten years ago the way it does now, and that’s a bigger reason why online bullying is more apparent, not because “this generation” evolved a cruelty gene
