Technophobes need to apologise for "just put it in plain English you stupid machine!" because, well for one the decline in accurate error messages in favour of simplicity has contributed to the rise of tech illiteracy, but also because now whenever an "app" has a net connection error it will pop up a box saying something like "oo ooopsie! Your super duper feed went poo poo. We'll try again soon!" which having said to me by a corporation is about 8 million times worse than having to hear the word "network".

Endo System Question??

Honestly as someone studying psych someone’s going to have to explain to me why endo systems are valid because there’s literally no psych evidence behind them. I’m not even trying to be a dick rn it’s just that this is very much coming off as you just want to be special.

Disassociative disorders take A LOT of trauma to even become a system, and it’s very specific, which is why they are so rare, which is why there is so much controversy (I obviously believe in DID but there is controversy around it so I thought I should state that) . For you to have a system without trauma makes little to no sense to me because it’s so hard for the brain to “split” into multiple alters. To have headmates without trauma?? To just be born plural?? To see some of you say you got a headmate when you were bored?? Like please explain it to me. I’m lost. I’m confused.

Hi, an “endogenic” refresher course, right here!

1. We introduced the term “endogenic” into the community August 2014, along with some other terms! It was in response to exclusionists (wrongly) complaining about “systems without DID” using “their words”. It was an attempt at creating nonmedicalized terms that any plural system could use. 

2. It was also a way to do away with terms that had fallen into disfavor— specifically “natural systems”, a term that had been in use possibly as early as 1994. It was disliked because people felt it implied that trauma-caused systems were unnatural. “Endogenic” fixed that. 

3. The word “endogenic” was lovingly created to help systems put their experience into words. All it means is “a system not formed by trauma”; it doesn’t imply any other cause, set of beliefs, or experiences. It doesn’t imply the system is nondisordered or doesn’t have trauma. It doesn’t mean any other system’s origins in trauma or dx status is “invalid” or whatever.

4. Though the terms were eventually posted to tumblr, the idea didn’t start there. Tumblr was created in 2007; the concept of systems not caused by trauma has, again, been online since the 90s. Nor was the term created by singlets! We’re a trauma-caused system with DID. 

5. “Endogenic” wasn’t created as an insult or to exclude anyone. We have loved ones who are endogenic. Many of the terms in use now were created by endogenics. They have helped preserve plural history, and defended the community. They are good people, and real systems. The hate they get is completely senseless.

Thanks for coming to our talk. Please stop insulting endogenic systems, and educate yourselves instead, thanks. (Unless it’s just pure malice at this point in which case, fuck off I guess.)

Im glad the endo discourse has calmed down a little in most places online. That said, we have a hot take.

We help moderate a few system servers that are open to ALL systems and of course there is a clarifying question "How do you feel about Endos?" And I wish the negative responses bothered me more than the neutral ones. The ones that don't have an opinion on endogenic systems being bullied to hell and back, suicide baited, potentially doxxed, and mass reported and silenced on larger social platforms. I know this is a chronically online thing, but so are system communities for most of us.

Imagine saying youre "neutral" about the erasure bisexual people face. People either saying "youre gay, you just have internalised homophobia" or "you dated the opposite gender, you dont count" or "you dont fit the criteria to be in this community because you choose to also like the opposite gender". Suddenly, someone saying they are "neutral" about bi erasure sounds like an accomplice to the people erasing bisexuals, right?

All you "neutral" stance systems?

You are accomplices.

You cant be "neutral" when one side is just trying to exist and the other side is trying to erase that existence.

You know, I appreciate the response. And maybe its not *meant* in that light. I can certainly see how its not *meant* to condone harassment or bullying. But you have to see how its isolating. How it makes some of us (us meaning endos, hi, im endo) feel like the community is conditional and that we truly have very few people to turn to if something should ever happen where an anti-endo is harassing us. At least to me, it feels as though so many people are choosing to be spectators as we lose community after community. You dont even have to be uber-pro-endo. You dont even have to accept people without scrutiny. But the stance endo-neutral feels more like choosing to be a spectator/outside-looking-in rather than saying "hey, I believe you know your mind/i trust your experience" to touch on what you said. Because to trust someone knows their experience is to trust that they know they are endogenic, that endogenic systems exist, etc. And I suppose Im out of this a bit, I dont actively post syscourse almost ever. But i also almost never mention our system is endogenic because THAT seems like it insights syscourse. Do you see the problem here?

Tl;dr endo-neutral, even if well-intentioned, is still alienating because it feels as though your company/community is conditional.

**P.S. - And i should clarify, if it is a trigger, if you are new to syscourse/dont participate, new to the community in general: this stance isnt about you. Ignorance/not knowing isnt some ungodly sin. Protecting your own mental health comes first. I should have said that.

Endogenic, Autistic, and fictive-heavy culture is getting a new special interest, and then getting like 5 soulbonds, a split, and two spontaneous formations* from the same gd "source" material. Like. Please. Our brain is amazing but we go through this a lot.

It's also things getting super super awkward or really, really fun depending on who you ask when people flock to your blog for the fandom stuff you just tagged, like — "ah, yes, you're looking for [headmate X] but I am also here, hello. Is this too weird for you? I am not sorry about this. Have a nice day sir. 💀"
