Unpopular (?) opinion: I kinda dig the Tomorrowverse Crisis movies, and in particular I love the weird, dysfunctional father/daughter dynamic these two have going on.

So, my general approach to fiction, regarding Death of the Author, is this: Intent does matter, and should always be at least considered, but sometimes, the text and the intent can be at odds.

To give an example, the Rich Men of Richmond song-I know the singer SAYS he meant for it to highlight the issues with the system, not laying the blame on the Welfare Queens-but sorry, that's not what's in the fucking song. I listened to the song, what you meant wasn't what you said.

And that's assuming, of course, the singer wasn't just ass-covering. Which is part of the issue for me, we can't ever actually KNOW the intent for sure-we can be nearly certain, but we don't see into someone's head. We can analyze and speculate, but in the end, we can only be truly certain of what's on the page.

To finally make this question: Does this make sense, or am I a hypocrite?

I’ve been watching Nick knacks since middle school and they are some of the best content on the site and u deserve much more love! I grew up with post Icarly Nick but never found much use in it since I was banned from watching spoungbob (I liked the loud house but why watch that when phinese and ferb reruns are on?) But ur vids made me appceatw the channel so much more. I can’t wait till you get to some of my personal faves like teenage robot, invader zim, and Avatar the last air bender.

Btw how is the progress on Nick knacks at night going since you have covered certain shows like My three sons and the monkies? Would there be a Nick knacks jr when that got spun off into its own channel, teen Nick or Nick toons??? I can’t wait till you get to the films cause the first spoungbob movie and rugrats in Paris we’re some of my fave films as a kid.

Also I hope TV obscura will keep going cause I keep rewatching the first episode, it’s such a fun consept!

Thank you for the kind words. Bigger projects like "Nick Knacks" and "Nick Knacks at Nite" have sadly slowed to a crawl because of my living situation. Still technically homeless, working with shitty backwoods internet, spending a lot of time apartment hunting, not in the best head space. Even Sample Platters take twice as long as they used to. But I'll get to them or die trying. Spinoff channels like Teen Nick and Nicktoons will get normal Nick Knack episodes when I get to them, which is still a long ways away, and I have no plans of covering every show that aired on the spinoffs. But there will be videos on the Nickelodeon movies when they come up, and more TV Obscura in the works. Hopefully I'm not being too much of a bummer, because comments like these keep me going. It’s after 2am, so time for random thoughts.

Something had been nagging at me regarding that one panel of Jason from The Boy Wonder #2 by Juni Ba. His eyes are shown as virtually colorless. (Panel below)

As others have pointed out, there are a lot of stylistic and background details in the issue showing varying perspectives of how people, including himself, perceive him. It could be related to that somehow (I am not an expert in how colors represent emotion, but if this is correct, I’d suspect it’s related to his perceived isolation/loneliness).

But, the color makes me think of something else. Eyes often look cloudy after death and slowly turn opaque due to processes involved. With how scarred he’s depicted, I honestly wonder if his eye color is a nod to his death. (Apparently, this thought has been haunting me for like 3 hours)

Random side note on that thought. If you ever want to depict this in a fic, you can also add tardieu spots - what look like large splotches of blood from the decay of the blood vessels (they can occur on other parts of the body, but tend to look different elsewhere). Or a tache noir - a dark line formed horizontally across the center of the eye if the eyes remain open for a few hours after death. For an extra creepy factor

When you are alone and have a heart attack. What are you gonna do then?

Take a 2 minute break and read this:
