My Two Sherlocks

Sherlock Holmes one of the best fictional detectives every written, made by Author Conan Doyle's. Through out my life I have heard of Sherlock Holmes without every reading a book, he has been reference in school by teachers and so many tv shows that you could but help to learn about this character, his companion Watson, his brother Mycroft, and his arch nemesis Moriarty. This blog is about giving a nod to two of my favorite interpretation of Sherlock Holmes, CBS Elementary and BBC Sherlock.

Elementary is set in NY with Sherlock (Johnny Lee Miller) living in a building own by his farther. He is a recovering drug addict that have a recovery companion Watson (Lucy Lu) that helps him consult with the NYPD working alongside Capt. Thomas Gregson (Aidan Quinn) and Det Marcus Bell (Jon Michael Hill). This is a familiar yet different concept for Sherlock Holmes being set in NY and having a female Watson and later the infamous Moriarty is found also to be a woman and so much more. Don’t want to give a lot away, THIS IS A MUCH WATCH.

One of my fav shows on BBC, Sherlock is more a direct comparison to the oringinal but set in modern times in my opinion. It does shack things up about here and there and in great British show fashion it relays a lot of story with just a few one-hour episodes. In this show gives you Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch), Watson (Martin Freeman), DI Lestrade (Rupert Graves), Moriarty (Andrew Scott), and best of all the iconic resident 221 B Baker Street set in London. 

Both shows started round the same time. They have great acting, amazing casts that give great performance and life to the iconic characters within this series.

Streaming becoming worse then cable TV ?????

So I have been cable free and strictly internet and streaming for a few years and everything’s been great until now. Cable was a waste of money to me, you pay for all of these channels only to watch a hand full  of shows and internet and for some a landline (for those that are younger a landline is when you have a house phone). Internet was necessary for school, work, and gaming but cable was not I already Netflix and a lot of my shows was coming on there after the season end so why pay for all these channels with cable when I can just wait and watching everything on Netflix when it release. On top of that Hulu was becoming a thing so I do not even have to wait for some shows I can watch the current episodes the following day, or so it uses to be. As time went on license agreements has been lose or changed and now more than every station are starting to make, they’re on streaming services and taking there shows away from others. There is an over saturation in the market now and if you want to keep up with your shows or try to you could be paying more then you were with cable. For subscriptions is enough for me Netflix, Hulu, PrimeVideo, and FUNimation was all I needed, but now shows like Doctor Who, Disney Shows or movies, NCIS, Death in Paradise, and many more I have to give up on because they no longer just come up on my streaming services you need Britbox, CBS all Access, or Disney Plus and so many more that’s coming like HBO Max. For those who shows they still have access to enjoy while it last because it to can eventually be put behind a different subscription streaming service wall. But to end on a high note Netflix, Hulu, and Prime because of this his been putting out great original content to keep you invested in there platform so there is a plus to it I guess.

Lets Watch Atlanta and Mr Robot

Once I am finish watching Burn Notice and Superior Donuts, I think it is time to revisit and finish Mr. Robot and ATL. I have watch at least two season of each show but never watch the remaining or current episodes due to just having to many other shows I had been trying to stay up with so they had fallen through the gaps of my show net so to say. Plus, I only do streaming so I also have to wait until they are available on one of the many streaming services I have but that’s a post for another day. 

Mr. Robot caught my eye from jump street with it’s marketing and promotion videos. It look like a modern-day  Hackers, you know that movie with Angelina Jolie but once you start watching you see its so much more and tackle so many issue. An Rami Malek as Elliot, Christian Slater as Mr.Robot, and Carly Chaikin as Darlene play their roles to perfection along the rest of the cast and great writing. 

Atlanta is great dark comedy coming from the great mind of Donald Glover. After leaving the show Community to work on different projects including his music career, he also was working on making this show. Seat in Atlanta, GA following the lives of Earnest Marks, His cousin Alfred Miles aka Paper Boy, and a strange friend Darius. This show is a balanced mixer if real life situations and choices of a black life living in the inner city of Atlanta with a mixture of comedy.

Superior Donuts was a Superior Show

Trying to find something to watch the other day I came across a comedy sitcom by the name of Superior Donuts. Where was I when this show came out and how did I sleep on this show. First and foremost, CBS you should not have cancelled this show. Anyway, I’m only a few episodes in the first season of its two-season run and from the very first episode I already known that I was going to enjoy the hell out of Superior Donuts.

   So the show is about a donut shop set in Chicago, owner Arthur played by the great Judd Hirsch which has remained unchanged since it's opening in 1969. Arthur reluctantly hires Franco played by Jermaine Fowler who convince him to modernize the business to remain competitive in the rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. This is supported from Arthur's loyal regulars. The chemistry between these two main characters playing off each other is only enrich by the supporting cast of the likes of Katey Sagal,  Maz Jobrani, David Koechner, and much more with the writing and comedic timing and mixture of portraying of social issue makes this a great watch. Oh by the way it also will make you want a donut.

Notice on Burn Notice

Man O Man O Man Burn Notice!!!!. So, just started re-watching Burn Notice on amazon prime. It was one of those nights where I did not know what I was in the mood, so I just randomly chose to re-watch this show. Forgot how much I liked this show, the writing was solid, the scenario of and agent being blacklisted is captivating, being set in Miami gives it stylish feel, and the characters and the actors portraying them is enjoyable to watch very entertaining. PLUS you have the man himself Bruce Campbell playing Sam Axe. The cast chemistry, the writing and directions has a good balance of action and humor throughout the series makes you feel for them is what makes this show. If you have never seen this show stop missing out and watch and if you have then you already know what I mean. Let me know what your thoughts on this amazing show.

USA’s Monk

So with this epidemic that we se ourselves in it got me to rewatch one of my favorite shows that come on USA, Monk. A character that stayed in constant fear of people, the outside would, germs, and so much more but nevertheless was a brilliant detective.

Truly never understood what draw me to this show but anytime it was on I had to watch it. Adrian Monk played wonderfully be Tony Shalhoub was a odd ball character with an obsessive compulsive disorder that you had to watch to see how he was going to solve this week episode case and how his disorder would add some comedic obstacle he would have to get through. The comedy is well written but is balanced with the heart felt moments that are interjected into the season. From learning about his past, what happen to his beloved wife, the characters that surround and care for him put this show in a league of its on. Like the theme songs says ♩♩ It’s a Jungle Out There♩♩

Malcolm & Eddie

Malcolm&Eddie, after searching for something to watch on primevideo came across this show I haven't seen in years Malcolm&Eddie. Let the nostalgia feels begin. Back store, Malcolm&Eddie is an African-American sitcom that lasted from mid 90's to early 2000's Show was created by Joel Madison and stared Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Eddie Griffin. Of its original showing I never missed a episode and it would have me laughing from beginning to the end. The two mains had separate personalitys. Malcolm was suave and responsible while Eddie was a fast talker and frenetic ball of energy but they play off each other perfectly as they try to run there newly acquired pub and garage. They actors chemistry together made these show work plus the supporting characters like Tim (Jamie Cardriche) and Nicolette (Karen Malina White) balanced out the cast and gave the show more personality. If you want good laugh I highly recommend this show.

Carnivale or Carninot

Since this epidemic my binge watching has sky rocketed, need something to do to past time so why not catchup on shows, discover new ones, and give others a second chance. So Started watching HBO’s Carnival. Never gave it a chance on its oringinal run but say it on Prime Video and sad what the hell I like my supernatural show. One season down and few episodes into the second and final season. The show is ok, most of the characters are interesting enough but the story seems rush and they have to many characters but don't give adequate time to set up what happing. It feels like they already know they might not get another season. So far from what I seen this show had potential. Hopefully it ends on a high note.

NCIS ft. Christopher Lloyd

I Have been a fan of Christopher Lloyd since I was young watching Back to The Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Addams Family and many other movies he was in. 

But his performance on NCIS season 17 Ep20 reminded me of why I like see him on screen. His ability to move from calm state to anger or outburst plus the expression of emotion for me give his character believability and felt truth in what he was trying to accomplish through out the show. Also have to give NCIS the a thank you for the story and giving more information about Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona.
