❥  grace didn’t know why benjamin had run away from home .. but she was trying to understand it. he and pico were happy together, something that she could respect ( even if there was a spot of envy mixed in there somewhere .. ) and it made her want to help them get away. the fairests were .. complicated -- their family had always been complicated, even if they had always kept up impressions around grace & her parents, there had been moments where the mask had slipped and concerning colors were revealed. she could not begin to understand how bad things really were. but again .. she was trying to. 

❥  “ .. well, we could go get something if you want .. “ grace was well off, supported by her family in ways the benjamin was not. and although she was sure they would not understand why benjamin was running away either -- she was sure they wouldn’t depise her for helping her closest friend out. “

❥  after pico had gone into training as a mercenary, he had been strict with himself to not get attached to anyone around him. he’d done bad things in those years, trained to be a killer without ever looking back. it was easier that way, even if he was better off now -- that was arguable -- and he couldn’t help but question if he had done the right thing by encouraging benjamin to get away from his family sometimes. were they awful people? yes, they were. but -- pico remembered his own family sometimes, a family he was no longer in contact with, and how even if a system is bad, it’s better than having nothing at all.

❥  but that’s nonsense. pico’s home life had been -- rough sometimes, but there was mostly peace. benjamin’s home life seemed to be the opposite of that. he had made the right decision telling him to get out of there-- although there were still going to be moments of doubt or times where he wished he could tell him to stay somewhere safe and warm, like with grace, his old friend. 

❥  right now their safety was questionable. it might always be questionable. he hated to think that way -- hated the idea of accepting defeat like that, but it was getting tougher to hold out the hope of some miracle chance of escaping benjamin’s parents who seemingly never gave up. even now, he was listening for them, one hand lightly settled around benjamin, holding him close and shielding him from any rain that got through the umbrella -- as well as any prying eyes that might peek into the alleyway. the other was clenching his gun, tightly. if there was a scuffle, he was prepared to take things into his own hands if it meant getting some peace and quiet.

❥  benjamin clings to him tightly, and pico can’t help but be concerned. he’s always so worried for benjamin -- always so worried that the next incident might push him over the edge; might be too much for him to handle. but still -- he wants to believe in him, wants to believe that they can get through this. “ .. c’mere, you’re freezing. “ his grip tightens a bit as he pulls benjamin over, closer to him, his weapon abandoned as he brings him as close to him as he can manage. benjamin might be temporarily shielded from the cold of the stormy day thanks to being this close, but he’s not so sure he can entirely quell his nerves when they’re so exposed. “ you’re gonna be okay, alright? “ his head rests on benjamin’s shoulder, cuddling into the crook of his neck as he sighs. pico’s never been huge on affection, but benjamin was always the exception.  // @scrrowblue​ // continued.

❥   the nighttime was always a time where pico felt like things were safer, perhaps because he’d spent such a long time running from the cops under its cloak. as a mercenary turned graffiti artist ( with a few occasional hits scattered about ) he had become all too familiar with spotting out those who were lying in wait for him. only now, he had benjamin with him, it made the whole thing so much more personal... he knew he had to dodge any trouble he could for his sake.

❥  he pointed and stopped benjamin a bit in his tracks as he pointed to the side of the old house they’d been considering staying at for the night. “ thought i saw someone ... or something. “ he clarified, noting that the silhouettes dancing across the front of the house had been fairly small. maybe it was just some teens messing around with a haunted ritual they saw online inside or something .. but still, he thought he should warn him, hand already tucked in his pocket to get a weapon if he needed it. // @artdream​ // continued from here!
