It wasn't a big deal to seasoned protector like Cinnabar - just a small cut on her face, caused by some debris that was thrown at the brunette's general direction and which ended up grazing the skin when her shield was used for Eirene instead. It hadn't even been an actual attack - just an unsafe building that responded poorly to a storm, but Cinnabar's instincts were as impeccable as ever.
But as soon as they found solid, decent shelter, Eirene did something that she didn't normally do - she looked concerned for another. The CEO hummed softly while looking up to her bodyguard, a hand tracing the other woman's face before the digits were entirely removed but only for a second. The blonde one discarded her glove, using soft fingers to wipe away the crimson liquid with a gentleness that felt out of character for a Campbell, and then used the expensive fabric to clean her hand off.
"I know I pay you well to protect me from harm," the businesswoman said after a moment, voice tone just vaguely curious, "And yet most people would not take it as seriously as you do, knowing that I am a Sinner as well. You don't do this for the financial compensation, do you?" Eirene asked the question but seemed to have the answer already, a mysterious smile playing on her lips while they hid from the rain.
"No, I don't think you do... But it only makes you all the more precious."
╰ * unprompted // always welcome!
Does she do this because of the pay?
This ー protecting Eirene ー from the very moment Cinnabar had accepted the kindness offered to her ー a kindness she did not deserve then, a kindness she still does not deserve now ー the bodyguard swore her absolute loyalty to the CEO. It was only due to Eirene’s mercy that Cinnabar still stood today, after all, hiding her away from the consequences of her sins and saving her from the authorities, despite knowing the risk that came with hiring her.
So. Does she do this because of the pay? Miss Eirene was right. It wasn't. It never was because of the payment, no. This ー protecting Eirene, willingly jumping in front of harm's way to keep her from it ー This was all out of devotion. Of gratefulness. And should the need arise, Cinnabar was confident that she would gladly trade her own safety all over again if it meant Eirene's.
A shade of red made its way to the tip of Cinnabar's ears as she felt the blonde's touch against her skin, wiping any hint of blood away while leaving in its wake a searing warmth instead. Miss Eirene's concern really is... This hint of gentleness that Cinnabar's finally beginning to realise she only shows to others so rarely... Really, truly... Cinnabar did not deserve it all.
She placed her hand over Eirene’s before she could let it fall back down to her side; bringing it closer instead, briefly, as though she was about to brush her employer's knuckles against her lips only to give it a gentle squeeze instead. And in a quiet, yet earnest whisper, she finally answered:
"All of this is for you, Miss Eirene. Everything I do. Everything I am."

Eirene's demeanor and body language as she walked off the interrogation room was not the one of a criminal who had been subjected to some sort of tension-filled and potentially threatening experience. On the contrary: there was a calm to her movements and a small smile on the painted lips, the president of Quinn seemingly as composed as she was after leaving a shareholders' meeting.
Upon seeing Cinnabar standing right outside, however, Eirene paused - it was clearly unexpected (not the fact that the other Sinner was behind bars, but that she was just outside of the room occupied by her former employer until a minute ago) and it showed in her distinctively colored orbs, but it was also a pleasant turn of events.
Given her civility in the interrogation room as well as the shackles over her, nothing in Eirene required additional security to move her to the cell - and thus she had been free to walk over to the bodyguard, a warmer look washing over the businesswoman's face as she stopped right in front of the brunette, a gloved hand reaching for Cinnabar's chin very softly.
"It's good to see you again, my dear," the blonde murmured, and the digits which were free of any fabric brushed softly against the security specialist's cheek, going as far as pushing some of her hair to the side before moving away. Eirene's hold was then limited to her chin and moving her head from one side to the other as if inspecting the younger woman. "How have they been treating you? I hope they have given you the same courtesy showed to me thus far - it would be so very rude of the Bureau otherwise." And although the older Sinner hadn't voiced it, there had been just the softest hint of protectiveness in her last words regarding Cinnabar's detainment.
╰ * unprompted // always welcome!
Pacing back and forth like this wasn't quite like her. Usually, Cinnabar stood tall and firm, even when she was confused or unsure, with little to no fidgeting other than the usual glances at the wall or up at the ceiling. And even then, she would be quick to correct herself.
She'd been like this ever since she heard of Eirene's arrival at the MBCC. Not as a guest of some sort, and not for business, either, but rather, as a Sinner. Her heart sank, once the quiet whispers reached her ears. How could this be? She wondered to herself. Repeatedly. How could this be, when Miss Eirene had done so much, had always been so very careful about the truth, had always held everyone a few paces away, just to keep her secret safe? Miss Eirene, who was always ten steps ahead of everyone. Miss Eirene, who always had an escape planned out should things go awry. There must be some sort of mistake.
And yet ー there she stood. With a look that felt so warm that Cinnabar could almost crumble.
She let out a breath she hadn't even been aware of holding, nearly leaning into the other's touch had Eirene not moved away so soon. Instead, Cinnabar gave a small smile, cheeks warming up, just a little, at the other’s concern.
"I amー" Cinnabar swallowed, heart swelling and aching in a mix of worry, relief, and yearning. Glad. She would have said, if not for the pesky lump in her throat. She was glad to see Eirene again after so long. At the same time, she worried. Wondered, if it was okay for her to feel this relieved to see her former employer here, where she shouldn't be.
"Miss Eirene, what happened? Why are you here? How did they…" No. The former security paused. She'd seen Eirene pull strings first-hand, witnessed how easily she could manipulate the truth if she so willed it. If that was the case, then… "Did you come here on your own, Miss? But… Why?"

╰ * what is holding you back? ー cinnabar
ー the inability to see the good in yourself, therefore relying on others to provide it for you
your heart is so full for the people you love. it's sweet, but you've now forgotten how to care for yourself. you only seem to see great things in the people around you. they're wonderful, and you... you don't like what you're seeing in yourself, right? you need to be reminded that you're enough. that you're talented. that you're worthy. that's partly the reason why you reach out so much. you need to hear it from the lips of someone "better" than you. but afterwards, it makes you feel even more guilty and upset. you feel like your actions are self-absorbed. you're aiming for perfection because you see it in others. you're failing to see the flaws in everyone else. i promise, you're no monster. i could say this again and again, but will you believe me when i say you need to find it out for yourself?

Not Chelsea walking into chief's office unannounced (again).
Not Chelsea saying, "Is this seat taken?", pointing towards the chief herself as Sitri pounces onto her desk, cracking the wood (again). The crystalized cat blocks - or at least distorts, in her pink shimmering body - anything that may happen.
Not Chelsea inviting herself onto said "seat" before the chief can object, wiggling herself into a comfortable position to almost snuggle into the woman (again). But she is still very alert, and still has her eyes on her prize, grabbing chief's chin - so softly; never harshly with her - and turning her face so they were so close, their noses gracing each other (again). She knows not to rush it too much, wanting permission for anything too close, yet already feeling like she was the queen of the chief's castle...Again.
"Did you miss me, darlin'? Because I missed you oh, so much~..."
╰ * unprompted // always welcome!
Of course it's Chelsea who walks into her office unannounced (again). Of course it's Chelsea who, without even waiting for an answer, props herself on the Chief's lap (again). And of course it's Chelsea who sets aside any semblance of personal space, shamelessly pressing closer against the Chief (again), much to her chagrin.
With an all too tired sigh, the Bureau director places her pen down on the desk and rests her hand over Chelsea's, the corner of her lips arching upward just a little as she looks into those ruby-like hues. This has become a familiar dance between the two, now. And where the Chief would have maybe flushed a quick shade of red from how close they are, she now huffs out a laugh instead, eyes rolling endearingly at the other.
Chelsea is... quite like a cat, the Chief finds. She does whatever she wishes to do, sits wherever she likes, and is one to ignore any protests while begging for affection. Sometimes, the Chief wonders which of the two is the real cat hereーis it Sitri, or Chelsea?
"If you must know," the Chief finally moves Chelsea's hand so it rests on the woman's own lap; one arm loosely looped around the Sinner's hips only to make sure she doesn't accidentally fall. Smiling lazily, she continues matter-of-factly, "I did not. Now please remove yourself from my lap, Countess. I have a few reports to finish. And a table due for yet another repair."

It's not that Lisa had been keeping an eye out. Only that it concerns her slightly, who ends up getting arrested, because they'll inevitably turn up in her daily life in some way or another, for as long as she has the wretched misfortune of remaining in this place. It concerns her only slightly more that that woman might turn up again—only because she'd given Lisa so much grief already. It's only natural that she'd want to brace herself for further irritation. Because she'd known it'd be only a matter of time before she'd be caught and shackled, too. The Chief had a horrible habit of doing that.
"So you're here after all." It's more for her benefit than McQueen's, though. A thoughtless muttering; a thought that had just... Slipped out. Lisa wastes only a second longer looking McQueen up and down. She looks no worse the wear than the last time Lisa had seen her. Not that Lisa cares, particularly. She turns on her heel to walk away.
The MBCC is acquiring quite a number of artists, lately. There's Enfer and that Hecate girl... And now, she supposes, McQueen. It's only a shame that such a fact has done nothing to improve the fact that the MBCC remains a tacky, dreadful place. Nothing to change the fact she'd rather be anywhere else, anywhere other than here.
╰ * unprompted // always welcome!
The grin that makes its way upon McQueen's features is one that's all too wide and happy the moment she catches sight of Lisa, and also one that immediately falters when the art critic only continues to walk past her after a few words and a brief examination of her appearance. With a quick turn on her heel, McQueen reaches a hand outーfingers catching hold of the soft fabric of Lisa's kimonoーa look of surprise on the former painter's own features.
"Of course I'm here, my lady." She quickly says now that Lisa's forced to pause, her smile returning. "The lovely testimony you've written about me had been amazingly detailed, after all. It's no wonder MBCC found me." Calling her greasy, cunning, and, what was it again? Overly affectionate? The testimony the Chief had shared with McQueen was, indeed, detailed. Why, it seemed like it even had a list of nicknames the Chief could call her by. "I didn’t think I’d left quite the impression on you, Miss Lisa. Although your words, as usual, were rather sharp even on paper, I'm pleased to know that you’ve kept me in your mind."
The forgery trader finds her place beside Lisa, now, matching the other's pace as she continues, "Could it be that you made a report about me because you missed me?" A wink. One she's certain Lisa would respond to with a grimace and when she actually does, McQueen laughs. "Since destiny has brought us together once more, won't you give me a tour around the Bureau? I would be most grateful if you say yes, Miss Lisa."
